Best shoes for plantar fasciitis

Queenio24 · 02/05/2018 19:03

Ow! It hurts and my shoes are making it worse. Has anyone bought any particular shoes which help? I work in quite a conservative office environment (usually wear clarks hamble oaks) so I need some work shoes. I'm wearing trainers out of work.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated

Heels heels heels. Anything with a flat base including trainers won’t help the pain. Have you had a cortisone?

Rugratwrangler · 02/05/2018 19:08

Ahh plantar fasciitis, the bane of my life. A nice cuahioned pair of trainers does the trick for me, something like sketchers memory foam, doubled up with kinso tape.

I actually got a pair of boots from Debenhams that helped a ton, but I don't know what brand they are, but they were proper boot style with a wide heel, quite chunky, real leather and quite padded

RJnomore1 · 02/05/2018 19:09

For home a pair of oofos helped my dh no end.

They're like pool sliders in style but designed to support where needed. You can get them on amazon. He wears them rather than slippers now.

Look for insoles for relieving PF. I am on my feet for much of the day at work and have some for PF and my high arches. Ah, that's better! Also, some Skechers trainers are excellent for it.

Rugratwrangler · 02/05/2018 19:14

Dunno if you've seen a doctor or physio, but mine gave me This which helps a bit . They also gave me another exercise but I dont have a photo or a good way to explain it

Look up plain black Skechers Go Walk shoes. Would they be permissible in your office, OP? (I know, they're very ugly).

Queenio24 · 02/05/2018 19:15

GP said he would do a steroid injection in 6 weeks if I'm still in bad pain! I can barely walk! I've had KT tape on, not sure if it's done anything though Sad I'm going to buy some gel heel cups too.

Ecco are good, and so are Fitflop leather trainers.

Anything else, even slippers, get the insole things, I have them in everything.

Rugratwrangler · 02/05/2018 19:16

Also just to back up what somebody else said (kind of) heel she help to alleviate the pain temporarily, but won't do much to help fix the problem

ISeeTheLight · 02/05/2018 19:16

Boots sell insoles for this, I had it before and they really helped. They're quite dear but worth it!

Knittingteapot · 02/05/2018 19:17

I've been wearing FitFlop trainers and slippers which has helped a bit. I could do with going back to the doctors with mine though as it's been over a year now and still not gone entirely.

SharpLily · 02/05/2018 19:17

Fitflops. They're the only thing I can wear thanks to PF.

While heels and/or cushioning will help relieve the symptoms in the short term, by minimising the stretch on your calf muscles, for a long term solution i can throughly recommend

Wearing Skechers cured mine. Some people say birkenstocks helped them - I found them excruciating.

Stand on the bottom stair with the heel half of your foot over the edge. Lower your heel to stretch the painful bits.

Freeze a drinks can and roll it under your instep

Never walk barefoot or in completely flat shoes.

Oh, and wear Skechers.

Almahart · 02/05/2018 19:25

Not the answer to your question but yoga has been keeping my plantar fasciitis at bay.

I agree a heel is helpful and would definitely get insoles

WitchDancer · 02/05/2018 19:25

Another vote for Sketchers here too, in particular the memory foam ones.

The injection was great, but in my case didn't last long.

Appuskidu · 02/05/2018 19:26

Have you tried Vionic?

MummyMummy01 · 02/05/2018 19:35

You can also try rolling a small bouncy ball (kids type) under the heel into the arch. It’s gives pain but can help afterwards.

Harry2006 · 02/05/2018 19:39

I second Skechers but a snug fitting pair.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 02/05/2018 19:48

Has anyone had the injection? My GP said there’s two injections and the first is usually so painful that people don’t go back for the second.

rememberthetime · 02/05/2018 19:48

I developed this after a stint in retail over Christmas - worst thing I ever did. I used to walk miles every week - now I can barely do a food shop.

I've done lots of reading and discovered that it can be caused by shortened calf muscles - so calf stretches are good.

But it's also worth making sure you strengthen all of your legs so your posture and foot placement is good.

I am getting to the point where visiting the doctor might have to happen. but going to try heel cups first.

ChanandlerBongsNeighbour · 02/05/2018 19:54

I bought some super supportive cushioned insoles and use them in all my shoes (including Hamble Oaks - I have a REAL thing for brogues!!) and they sorted it out a treat!

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 02/05/2018 20:07

Any particular make ChanandlerBongsNeighbour?

RJnomore1 · 02/05/2018 20:12

Be very careful of skecher GP walks if you have any sort of pronation in your gait. I got a right toe from my physio for wearing them. There's no support at all and it gave me a nasty Achilles issue over time.

ChanandlerBongsNeighbour · 02/05/2018 21:56

They were just generic ones off Amazon, about £12 a pair of I recall? I bought two and just shuffle them between my shoes!
