...do you wish you had sussed years ago and not just recently?!

You don’t have to wear heals to look “done up”
Wear the size that fits you properly rather than the size you’ll like to be
Skinny jeans and high heals can easily look cheap
Relaxed fit clothes are more stylish
Sunglasss often make an outfit in the summer

Bramble71 · 05/05/2018 16:18

V-necks make big boobs look smaller.

applespearsandraspberries · 06/05/2018 06:51

Love these, I've finally embraced the "wear the size that fits you properly" after dentist my my weight gain post children!

Watching with interest. Currently feel style adrift!

SpeckledyHen · 06/05/2018 07:06

Having my colours 'done' years ago was the best ever for me , plus saving a fortune by not buying mistakes . I was 35 when I did it .

Purplerunner · 06/05/2018 07:12

Wear what flatters your shape rather than what is on trend. Being a short, pear shape some things will never look good on me!

YellowArdvark · 06/05/2018 10:26

Spend more/take more care of your hair. I think better, regular cuts, colour and treatments has made more of a difference to my overall look than anything else.

I only discovered face primer a year ago and this has made such a difference too under foundation. Ditto eyebrow powder instead of pencil.

Wear more colour. It does wonders for my mood.

Jimwenttothedarklands · 06/05/2018 10:31

Go with your own style instead of trying to copy others.

If you find a peice of clothing that is perfect - buy it in every colour and twice in your favourite one!

Jimwenttothedarklands · 06/05/2018 10:33

Speckedlyhen - I had mine done last year. I always thought I was autumn and loved the colours. I'm summer (makes much more sense tbh) but I don't really know what to do with that information. I've ended up with a wardrobe full of navy blue!

user1955 · 06/05/2018 10:38

I agree about personal style rather than trend or copying friends. I had my "style" done as well as colours. I now understand why some people look great in casual linen, but I feel like a crumpled dishrag. I saw so many friends looking fab in their clothes and tried to emulate, but never felt good.

Floisme · 06/05/2018 10:41

That style is about personality as much as body shape.

BrightonCalling · 06/05/2018 11:00

Heels are over
Dresses are easier than faffing around with skirts and tops
Embrace patterns

This x100!!

Threehoursfromhome · 06/05/2018 11:12

I take the approach these days, that as a long as a piece of clothing, is 1) in the right size, 2) in a flattering style, 3) in a flattering colour 4) comfortable and 5) appropriate to the activity I am doing, then being on trend is optional. And frankly it hardly ever happens! It's hard enough finding something which meets the first 5 criteria, but my hope is that at least if it does I will never look truly awful.

I had my colours done which helped, although not as much as it might have, because although I have warm colouring I naturally favour cool-toned clothing. I'm not particularly extrovert and some of the more exuberant choices the consultant suggested weren't really me. Actually that's 6) reflects your personality.

It's a minefield! I envy people who can do this kind of thing naturally. I have to go through a mental checklist with each item of clothing - is this a good style/ colour/size etc. And I have to accept that some seasons there will be very little in the shops which suits me: the last five years of skinny jeans has been traumatic and last year there were almost no V neck tops. So, like others, once I've found something I tend to buy it in several colours. It means my wardrobe is quite repetitive but I do wear about 80% of it regularly.

Ooh yes me too! After I had the DC (was v skinny before, not so much after...) I didn't think dresses suited me anymore. Then I tried on a Tea Dress and it suited me perfectly. Now in the summer I have to force myself to wear something different!

DontCallMeCharlotte · 06/05/2018 16:23

Tightlining. It's like a little miracle. And I learned about it on here Smile.

I also wish I hadn't spent my 20s clad head to toe in boring black.

KatharinaRosalie · 06/05/2018 21:49

if it does not make you feel fabulous, don't buy it. Nobody needs a wardrobe full of 'meh' clothes

JMAngel1 · 06/05/2018 21:58

Threehours - same for me with cokowur analysis - I came out Autumn, but with my copper blonde hair look like I'm going to spontaneously combust in autumn colours - I favour Winter colours and when I wear them, get so many compliments. I think the whole theory behind colour analysis is back to front and warm toned should wear cool colours and vice versa in order to neutralise the overall loom and look more balanced.

Gah81 · 06/05/2018 22:03

That life is too short not to wear the gold lamé or the extravagant cape or slightly OTT emerald silk dress at the slightest possible excuse. Even if it is just out to dinner.

I wish I had had the same level of confidence in my 20s - I would have had much more fun with my outfits!

phoolani · 06/05/2018 22:09

To buy clothes for the person I am rather than the person I’d like to be. All my style mistakes were down to this.

Southernc0mfortmirror · 06/05/2018 22:18

That just because I can squeeze into something doesn’t mean it actually fits

AnneLovesGilbert · 06/05/2018 22:22

That pencil skirts are the foundation of my look.

That the answer to dry scaly feet is a £2 chrodopist sponge. I’ve wasted a bloody fortune over the years on electric gadgets that were useless.

ferriswheel · 06/05/2018 22:24

Threaded eyebrows make everything look better.

calzone · 06/05/2018 22:27

A blazer and jeans always looks good!

A proper fitted bra makes all the difference.

Bronzer is often all you need.
