Is this dress a goer?

Dinner in smart London restaurant with a group of well heeled and a bit blingy colleagues of DH.
I'm 5' 9'' with a big tummy and well upholstered hips, decent legs.
Already own great shoes and bag.
Is it suitable or too dressy and what would I wear as a cover up?

Alternative is cigarette trousers and a nice top (up for suggestions)?

Thank you.

I like that. I'd wear it taking a wrap with me.

DragonsAndCakes · 01/05/2018 17:01

How smart a restaurant? The dress is quite formal so it depends on exactly where I think.

Kochicoo · 01/05/2018 17:04

Agree, lovely dress but might be a bit formal just for dinner, even if it is a smart restaurant. I think your cigarette trousers idea might be better.

JollyGiraffe · 01/05/2018 17:06

Lovely dress but too formal for just dinber

elderflowerandrose · 01/05/2018 17:07

Trousers will be better

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 01/05/2018 17:08

I think it's fine actually. I don't like to be overdressed, but the fabric doesn't look sheeny/shiny, and the flared skirt brings down the 'dressiness' just enough for me. Just don't wear a 'statement' necklace or a big wafty wrap. I'd wear a really nice little cashmere/fake cashmere cardi.

I like it OP.

Hellsbellscockleshells · 01/05/2018 17:08

Lovely dress but I suppose it depends where your going and how formal the restaurant/dinner.
I think the cigarette trousers nice accessories and getting your hair done might be a better look.

BitOutOfPractice · 01/05/2018 17:09

My heart sank when I saw "bardot" but that is actually lovely.

toomanydicksonthedancefloor1 · 01/05/2018 17:10

I think it's a gorgeous dress and perfect for a nice dinner. Personally I would rather be overdressed than underdressed. I'm tempted to order that myself!

hardheadedwoman · 01/05/2018 17:11

I thought posting affiliate links where earn commission would be frowned on here?

LegoPiecesEverywhere · 01/05/2018 17:14

Hardheaded as far as I know it is Mumsnet who benefit so nothing the op did

hardheadedwoman · 01/05/2018 17:16

But mumsnet didn’t post, OP did? Do Mumsnet edit posts replacing normal links with affiliate links?

DairyisClosed · 01/05/2018 17:18

Perfectly fine. Just don't wear any jewellery beyond plain vold/silver earrings.

RatherBeRiding · 01/05/2018 17:20

Lovely dress and I think will be just right for a smart restaurant. I'd take some kind of wrap/pashmina type thing to drape round shoulders.

danceonyourtoes · 01/05/2018 17:21

I just copy and pasted a link from the website, apologies if I broke any rules.
I actually saw in on JL but my size was out of stock.

I'm dithering now that I'll be a bit overdressed. Don't want to look like a country bumpkin glamming up for the capital which is what I am.

Cropped cashmere cardigan - black or red? Boden have nice ones (I'm same height as you and they work well with dresses like that).

blueskyinmarch · 01/05/2018 17:24

There is nothing wrong with the link OP posted. Links like that are posted all the time.

Nice dress OP!

wakemeupbefore · 01/05/2018 17:26

Lovely. Take a wrap though or in the recent weather, stole. Enjoy!

MarmaladeIsMyJam · 01/05/2018 17:31

How old are you if you don't mind me asking?

I think it's very dressy for dinner, do you know which restaurant you are going to to?

Please don't wear a wrap!

danceonyourtoes · 01/05/2018 17:42

I'm 50 Marmalade, so have the potential to look matronly.

I think that if you chose the right low-ish shoe/sandal with a square-ish heel, deffo cardi instead of wrap, no jewellery and relaxed hair, you'd be fine. The flared skirt helps.

The dress could go either way though. A wrap, statement anything, high heels or 'done' hair and it would be too much possibly.

BusterGonad · 01/05/2018 19:39

I second not wearing a wrap. They are a bit out dated these days.

Ohyesiam · 01/05/2018 19:43

Not too dressy ( and I hate to be over dressed). Really lovely actually, quite understated. Minimal accessories and a cropped cardi .
