Floral dress ok for an interview?

Last time I had an interview (12years +) I wore a black suit.

I’ve got short notice interview on Wednesday morning which I wasn’t expecting and don’t have an outfit!

Trawled my wardrobe & have the choice of a below knee black, white and grey floral dress (prom style ish) with the black jacket from my old suit. Or my old suit with wide-leg flowy trousers.

I don’t the time or money to get anything tomorrow.

I’ll be home based if I get the job & no office to check out the normal office attire.

Which to wear?

The jacket flattens the skirt

Photos?

I got my current job after wearing a flowery dress to interview. Just depends on how it looks really.

Not a flattering pose. Don’t have one of the trousers

A prom style dress sounds highly unsuitable. What do you mean by "flowy" trousers? Can you really not get to a supermarket for a pair of plain trousers?

HeddaGarbled · 30/04/2018 23:54

Ah, OK, just seen the photo. That's not bad. What's the job?

Aridane · 30/04/2018 23:54

I think you look smart and professional. Good luck!

UsernamesSoHardToChoose · 30/04/2018 23:55

Flowy just means the material - not tailored - dated.

You will look really smart and presented. I wish you well

Littleredboat · 30/04/2018 23:58

I reckon that’s fine. Good luck!

HeddaGarbled · 01/05/2018 00:00

Yes, I think that's OK, then.

UsernamesSoHardToChoose · 01/05/2018 00:03

Thanks all

I was imagining some strapless, lilac, shimmery monstrosity as you said prom dress... that looks great though and very professional especially with the tights and heels. Definitely wear that over the trousers. Good luck!

SquishySquirmy · 01/05/2018 00:06

I think as long as the dress material isn't too shiny it will look great. Looks ok in the photo. I think it helps that the colours of the dress are so understated and match the jacket.

Good luck!

Grin couldn’t think how to describe it - should have said fuller skirt.

Forgot it does have a bit of a fine metallic thread on the flowers but not in your face and the rest of the dress is matt.

I would still go for more conventional office dress, but then I don’t know what the role is. This personally seems a bit over the top for an interview

Aridane · 01/05/2018 07:51

I work in the City and, honestly, it’s fine

MeadowGrass · 01/05/2018 07:55

That looks fine

elderflowerandrose · 01/05/2018 07:57

Fine it is spring too, so more relaxed dress acceptable

Mulberrysilk · 01/05/2018 08:33

It's fine but I think the wide leg trousers sound better.

Girlundercover · 01/05/2018 08:37

It looks well, much better than the 1980’s Laura Ashley one that came to mind when I read your post!

myusernamewastakenbyme · 01/05/2018 09:28

I like the dress but i dont think its suitable for an interview...sorry.

LouiseCollins28 · 01/05/2018 11:06

I think this looks fine for an interview. Best of luck

uberqueen · 01/05/2018 16:33

I'd have to go against the grain and say plain trousers would be better
