Thread lift with Dr Darren Mckeown

I am considering having this done as I am genuinely horrified by my sagging jowls and how quickly they have developed, I am only 43 but my lower face has absolutely no definition at all. It's in my genes as my mum's face went the same way! It really, really bothers me, I know that sounds vain but it just looks awful.

Has anyone had a thread/one-stitch facelift? Dr DM seems to have a good reputation so I was thinking of having this done with him?

I'm sorry I have no good advice but I just wanted to sympathise and say that it is not vain to want to change something that brings unhappiness- just do your research and find someone you trust

thenightsky · 28/04/2018 18:33

Watching thread with interest as my lower face is now in a state of collapse. Cheekbones upwards I'm fine. I can live with fine lines on my forehead and laughter lines around my eyes. Its my jowls I hate. I caught sight of myself in a shop mirror yesterday and nearly screamed at the horror! It seems to have happened so fast.

Toomanybourbons · 28/04/2018 20:19

Same! I have crows feet but I really don't mind them. It’s the rapidly advancing saggy jowls that I can’t deal with! I once had a nice oval face with a nicely pointed chin, where’s it gone!!

I’ve made an initial appointment with Dr D. Will update, interested to hear in meantime though if anyone else has had this done....

I actually saw him and asked re this, he said the results weren’t actually that great.. I ended up having some targeted filler. He is good.

DaveswifeDawn · 28/04/2018 22:04

HappyGirl - please tell us more about the targeted filler!

lovemylover · 29/04/2018 00:18

Thread lifts are not that good and dont last long, not worth the money
I know someone who had one and was very disappointed
I would be interested in targetted fillers too

UpperWallop · 29/04/2018 08:01

Watch latest couple of episodes of real housewives of Cheshire. Lauren has it done and the procedure is filmed. You literally can't tell any difference, so it looks like a total waste of time and effort.

lovemylover · 29/04/2018 08:59

Sheree Hewson has had it done, you can google it, and i think Claire King hadf it done, a while ago, but not impressed
Look at "Real Self" you can dowload it,shows all kinds of surgery, cosmetic and non coasmetic, the good reviews and the bad
Ultherapy isnt all thay good either, some very bad results
I have been trying Promax, as someone on here said it was good, not noticed any difference yet, but supposed to take a while for collagen to build up. its similiar to Ultherapy but not as harsh

lovemylover · 29/04/2018 09:02

HappyGirl are the results good and what areas did you have done?
Also cost approx

SooChef · 01/05/2018 12:16

@HappyGirl - come back and answer our questions - please!

I wanted to weigh in on this because I had a threadlift (silhoutette soft) specifically to address early jowling and it did absolutely nothing! I was very fed up and I came on here to see what people were trying out. Someone had posted about a clinic in Worthing offering a mini facelift procedure. After some research online I decided to go for a consult. It is a SMAS lift, as opposed to only surface tissue, so it is more invasive than threads but still can be performed under a local anesthetic with 5-7 days downtime and it will last as it's repositioning underlying muscle by cutting and stitching. It was a great choice for me, the clinic has excellent facilities and the surgeon, Mr Coombes, was extremely efficient and attentive. Good, informative consult and a great procedure. The clinic is Worthing Laser and Skin Clinic. No affiliation at all - this just worked for me. (Also, very doable from London via train from Victoria.)

princesstiasmum · 31/05/2018 21:12

westtwo thank you for your post,i have had a facelift under local quite a few years ago now[ probably about 20],it was very quick and painless,
I am thinking of having another, under local, and the cost is lot less too,
I have been looking and found somewhere fairly close to me who does this,

HappyGirlNow · 31/05/2018 21:21

Sorry everyone! Forgot about this thread 😬 Yes, he used filler around lower face to lift it and it worked really well. I've already had filler in cheeks etc and chin and around mouth, I upkeep it regularly whenever I see a bit drooping 😄.

Filler works great, you need to start at cheeks to lift the face then work down. Each area can be £250 -£350 depending on how much filler you need.

westtwo · 31/05/2018 22:08

Hi princess
the fee at the time I had this done was £2k + consult fee, would have been much more in London. I think for something that will last longer than fillers and won't require regular visits it was worth every penny. I can't say it was painless for me because I was sore the next day and took paracetamol for three days after the procedure as I felt tight around the stitches, but by day 4 I stopped pain relief. I'd advise anyone to do their own research but this procedure, with an experienced maxillofacial surgeon, was a better option for me because it dealt with the issue I had of a softening (!) jawline directly, rather than trying to lift/disguise with fillers. Also, lifted cheeks nicely as well!

princesstiasmum · 31/05/2018 22:39

Yes about the same price i was quoted where i enquired, its much more with general
When i had my last one it was that price then, but still cheaper for local compared to general
Did you have it as a day case,? i did and had a car to bring me home, extra of course, but worth it
This place is much closer to me about 40 ,miles away, so going to try for an appointment next month, as all booked up for now
I will have it done later in the year,if i decide to go ahead,as the days are shorter and better able to disguise in winter, with coats and scarves etc
The surgeon might decide he doesnt want to do it as much older now, but i will see,and some dont like doing a second one
I am so pleased you have posted, because its given me a boost knowing you are pleased with the outcome
Did you have much bruising? i didnt really.

princesstiasmum · 31/05/2018 22:47

Although i had the first one about 20 years ago,my face still is much better than it would have been if it wasnt done,
My neck isnt looking too good though,so might need a neck lift too
I have to say,i want this for myself,i hate looking in a mirror, especially in shops, and it does lift your spirits when you feel you look good, i dont care what other people think, getting old is depressing, and my general health is good so i want to look as good as i feel if you see what i mean

westtwo · 31/05/2018 22:54

Hi princess

Yes, i had it done in less than 2 hours. I was told it's normally a one and a half hour procedure. I travelled down by train from London for the consult and on the day of the procedure too, but coming back I booked a cab from a London company who were fantastic and so I was driven home. I was fine - no issues but wouldn't have wanted to go back on the train. I had seen pictures of other patients who had had the procedure and some did have bruising. I was lucky and had virtually none, but I did have swelling which was to be expected. I took it easy for a few days as instructed but on day 4 I did go out for shopping and as I have long hair no one could see my stitches which were in front of my ears. I went back to see Mr Coombes a week later and a nurse removed the stitches. I travelled by train both ways. I'd recommend the surgeon I had - but not sure what area of the country you're in?

princesstiasmum · 31/05/2018 23:05

Hi, i am in North Yorkshire so would be too far for me where you went, the surgeon who has this clinic also has others, i wonder if they are connected,as there are not many who will do facelifts under local, and it was very unusual when i had mine done/but i was very pleased with the result, and had very little bruising, and not much swelling either, the surgeon i had did Sandy Shaws i was told,
Staples rather than stitches too
Was yours just a lower face lift or full,?
My last one i had staples in hairline and lower scalp, in hair, stitches in front and behind ears
couldnt stop looking in the mirror even in the first few days, and my confidence returned after leaving a very abusive marriage which affected it

westtwo · 31/05/2018 23:16

Hi princess

It was just lower and I only had stitches in front of my ears. Scars are healing very well (i'm one month out) and it's a good place to have stitches as you have a fold there anyway. As mentioned, I was becoming completely obsessed with my jawline, I had lost the firmness I had in my 20s/30s (in my 40s now) and after a lot of research and a failed threadlift I felt this was the way to go. I just hope this might help others because I think the jawline going is one of the most visible signs of aging but tricky to tackle. Yes, it is depressing getting older - but consider the alternative ;-) !!!

princesstiasmum · 31/05/2018 23:45

Hi, i agree its the lower half which shows ageing first i think my jowls are not that bad, its more the neck i think, anyway i will see what the surgeon has to say, this will only be the lower face which might help the turkey neck somewhat,
The first one was a full facelift,
I couldnt feel anything after the first injection, which in itself wasnt too bad, just the pulling and pushing of muscles, but no pain
I am more frightened of anaesthetic than needles, you are right though the alternative to getting old is worse, and i am very thankful my health is as good as it is
Did you not have any stitches behind your ears?

Bird2015 · 03/06/2018 00:43

Hiya
I have been considering a thread lift and have had a consultation at Harley street .. the cost quoted was 2.500.. but not sure about surgeon.. after reading your post about the lift that you have had .. I'm now wondering if to have this instead.. do you have a price for this..

princesstiasmum · 03/06/2018 09:04

WestTwo said £2000+ including consultation, the price i was quoted was /£2,900 for local ,
I would go for the facelift ,thread lifts arent worth it,dont make much difference

westtwo · 03/06/2018 12:37

Hi
I paid £2000 for the procedure plus for the £150 consultation. The fee covers all follow -up appointments too. If I had the procedure in London I would have easily paid double that. I spoke to the surgeon about the threadlifts during my consultation. He said he did one and result was so poor he has never offered it again.

westtwo · 03/06/2018 14:56

Sorry, I meant to write "£150 for the consultation" . Here's a link if it helps: www.laserandskinclinics.co.uk/plastic-surgery/
