It's a lovely dress and couldn't possibly be mistaken for a bride's or bridesmaid's dress in the circumstances you describe, OP. Presumably you won't be wearing it with a veil, for a start.

It’s not about being mistaken for the bride. It’s about having the manners to not wear white or cream to another woman’s wedding. I’m shocked that some of you insist you’ve never heard of this.

The OP won't be doing this, so it's OK.

The dress she'd like to wear is floral.

My mother in law wore a cream shift dress, I also wore a cream knee length dress. I don't think anyone thought she was the bride. She would have been mortified if she'd realised she shouldn't have worn it. Luckily no one knew about this rule.
