Recommendations for trainers for a city break

Hi all, looking from advice from you S&B experts. I’m going on a city break in late May, so expecting fairly nice weather and hoping to wear shorts/t-shirts and trainers. I really want some stylish trainers. I already have running shoes but they are lurid and not ‘cool’, I also have a pair of black Converse but for the amount of walking I like to do on a city break I don’t find them quite supportive enough/find they make my feet ache after a while. I quite like look of the Adidas Gazelle or Vans ‘Old skool’ but not sure how comfy they are for walking? I can’t tell from trying on in a shop, my Converse felt very comfy at first but after walking more than 5km they start to rub.

Please help! :)

I wore gazelles all around disneyland which trashed them but kept me comfy!

Sketches go walks are the comfiest shoes ever, but not particularly cool/trendy. I've got adidas stan smith's at the moment and I find them very comfy and more supportive than converse.

Thanks both! Yeah I think I prefer the look of the Adidas to Skechers so it sounds like they might be good... maybe I need to try both the Stan smiths and Gazelles and see which fits better. Good to know they feel more supportive than Converse. They are quite expensive so I don’t want to make another slightly wrong choice like I did with my Converse.

I bought Adidas pewter trainers for that very same reason. A nod to the style of superga but the support of adidas so ticked both my boxes. Bargain new off eBay, one of my better decisions Smile

Stan Smiths!

The perfect white trainer for me, lol good with lots of outfits.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 15/04/2018 17:42

Have you tried your Converse with an insole in? I've got some School Active ones for mine, and can walk a lot further in them now - they were too flat for long walks, before.

chalkyc2 · 15/04/2018 17:44

Sorry - horrid link fail...

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 15/04/2018 17:45

Stan Smiths were too wide for me. I've got white Geox, which I like but aren't very squishy.

I've ruined myself by wearing Skechers Go Walks on a Disney trip. Like walking on clouds. Comfier than my own actual feet. I don't even care about the ugliness anymore!

unicornandrainbows · 15/04/2018 17:48

I've done Paris, Rome and New York In sketchers... won't wear anything else for a city break

KoalasAteMyHomework · 15/04/2018 17:55

Another vote for skechers. They do have a real range of styles if you shop around and they are the comfiest shoes ever!! They really last.

LoveInTokyo · 15/04/2018 18:01

I live in Superga for this sort of thing.

LoveInTokyo · 15/04/2018 18:02

Which city are you going to by the way?

expatinspain · 15/04/2018 18:14

New Balance are comfy and fashionable.

nancy75 · 15/04/2018 18:18

My next trainer purchase will be a pair of Adidas court vantage ( from offspring) the white with the little coloured bit at the back are really soft leather

Bombardier25966 · 15/04/2018 18:19

New Balance 373.

Skechers if you don't care how you look. (Which is fine, but I'm guessing you wouldn't be asking if that was the case.)

pigpoglet · 15/04/2018 18:22

Converse one star are lovely and supportive . I find stan smiths really hard and also my gazelles aren't the most comfy trainers .
The converse players are more padded and supportive than the traditional ones .
Also have a look at jigsaw pumps which are smarter than actual trainers .
I have very tricky feet and find both the converse and jigsaw Best .

superram · 15/04/2018 18:23

Adidas gazelle come up very high at the heel and cripple me. All stars are amazing.

CountFosco · 15/04/2018 18:25

The coolest trainers right now are 'Dad trainers' so your runners might be the best! Personally I like retro trainers like Stan Smiths or Puma or Gola. Of those the comfiest are my Stan Smiths.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 15/04/2018 18:34

I've just looked at every single grey pair on the Skechers website, and couldn't find a single pair I'd be willing to wear. The men's ones are sometimes less offensive looking, but I have tiny feet so couldn't wear them.

Love the look of these Suspect not to everybody's taste though - probably some people would find them as ugly as I find the Skechers!

FriendlyOcelot · 15/04/2018 18:41

I would wear my Adidas Stan Smiths, or Superstars. However, looking at those Nike Internationalists, I’d bet that they are especially comfy!

tethersend · 15/04/2018 18:41

Nike Air Pegasus 83 are beyond comfy.

squiggleirl · 15/04/2018 18:42

I have Kurt Geiger Lamar's - so comfortable, but smart-looking too and less of a nike/adidas look about them. I've done quite a bit of travelling lately, and they have been perfect - really comfy.
