Tell me what’s wrong with my bra (pics)

Any expert bra people out there I’d love your advice!

I’ve just measured and I’m 30” underneath and 38” round the boobs. My current bras are a 32E but I’m pregnant and my boobs have grown since I bought them. However I’ve had the issue with the side fat and armpit fat the whole time. Is this just the wrong shaped bra for me? I’ve never liked balconettes as it’s uncomfortable between the boobs and I also like wearing scoop or v neck tops (not massively low I just look terrible in a crew neck). This bra is from Wacoal and I like that it has thick material on the cups which is a necessity, and it’s fairly comfortable.

Is it wrong size or wrong bra or both? Or do I just have to put up with the awful overhang?

You need at least a 36.

BabyBlueBella · 13/04/2018 13:50

You need to go for a wider back and reduce the cup size to balance this out. Head to m&s and get a bra fitting!

KirstenRaymonde · 13/04/2018 13:52

Do not ever go to M&S for a bra fitting! Not one of them has a clue what they’re doing.

Use this calculator booborbust.com and then get to a Bravissimo if you can.

DonaldsTrump · 13/04/2018 13:52

But I thought that went against all the bra intervention advice? I thought bras now are meant to be tight round the back as that’s where the support is rather than from the straps?

Thank you, I’ve been to bravissimo and they measured me at 30 E though that was before I was pregnant. A 30 always felt too tight so that’s why I wear a 32. Surely 36 would be really unsupportive?

KirstenRaymonde · 13/04/2018 13:55

Yes it is meant to be tight around the back, going up a size in the back is bad advice. Definitely use the calculator and also make sure you’re doing the lean and scoop to get all your breast tissue into the cup.

BabyBlueBella · 13/04/2018 13:55

@KirstenRaymonde M&S in Birmingham have always been brilliant for me and I was a bra fitter (not at m&s) for two years throughout university. Always found them to be good. Whether that's because I have fairly small boobs which are easy to fit I don't know but I've never had a problem!

MargotLovedTom1 · 13/04/2018 13:56

Yes, you're right. Read the bra intervention threads. You're way bigger than a E cup as it stands now, and obviously being pregnant means they could get bigger again.

KirstenRaymonde · 13/04/2018 13:56

Pregnancy will definitely have changed your breasts, and they will likely keep changing, so you really just need a couple of comfortable ones to get you through. But you do really want to be well supported or you’ll be uncomfortable.

OdileDeCaray · 13/04/2018 13:57

Your bra looks too tight in the band and too big in the cups, your breasts don't look supported.

Can you try the same bra on but try a 34d or a 36d?

KirstenRaymonde · 13/04/2018 13:58

@BabyBlueBella they always recommend too small a cup and too big a band. So many women getting measured there and told they’re a 36B when they should be a 30DD or something. Seriously all the time. Highly recommend you try the calculator I posted as well!

BabyBlueBella · 13/04/2018 14:03

@KirstenRaymonde I still disagree and think that waist band looks too tight and cups too big (clearly gaping at the top). You don't know until the bra is on, however I would honestly recommend trying a size up with a cup size smaller. This way your band will be slightly looser and your breasts will be supported fully which they do not look like they are currently.

TinyTino · 13/04/2018 14:05

The band around your waist looks a little tight. Can you go up a size in the back (or go up a notch on your current bra?) - also as @BabyBlueBella the cups are gaping a little at the top. The cup should be flat against your breasts I order to support them fully. I would try a back size up and a cup size down if I were you.

TinyTino · 13/04/2018 14:06

*in order - new phone and still no idea how to use it!

Fairylea · 13/04/2018 14:10

Your 38 measurement - is that round your boobs bending forward? If so with a 30 round your rib cage you’d be looking at 30H or possible 32G / 32GG depending on the fit of the bra and how tight you like them to fit round the ribs. A 30E doesn’t seem like the right size at all to me.

KirstenRaymonde · 13/04/2018 14:12

@BabyBlueBell the band size changes the volume of the cups entirely, its not just the same size cup on a bigger or smaller band. I'm a 32E, if I wear a 34D (theoretically a sister size) the cups gape at the top when they don't in a 32E. Suggesting someone go up in the band and down in the cup because there's gappage shows a misunderstanding of how sizing changes cup volume

KirstenRaymonde · 13/04/2018 14:12

DonaldsTrump · 13/04/2018 14:13

Thank you KirstenRaymonde for the link. I am a 30FF according to them! I don’t think I can go down a back size but I will try going up in a cup size in the same bra. I understand people saying go up in the back as this may reduce the overhang but I just don’t think it will be supportive.

Thanks everyone for your advice, and if anyone can recommend a similar bra that has more back smoothing properties please let me know!

It's not just about size either it's style of cup/bra, makes a big difference to the fit

KirstenRaymonde · 13/04/2018 14:17

Do try a 30FF - it might seem like the band will be too small with that much bigger a cup it really won't be. See the picture I posted, a bigger band will change the shape and volume of the cup. The cup takes up more space on the band the bigger it is.

DragonsAndCakes · 13/04/2018 14:18

What happens if you move it up a bit?

CottonSock · 13/04/2018 14:18

Great boobs. My bras do that and seems its not the size as I've tried every size going. I'm not overweight, but it makes me self conscious . Is it comfortable? Does it leave marks? I went through a lot of bras when pregnant. Strap extenders were useful to make them last a bit longer.

SeamusMacDubh · 13/04/2018 14:20

I hate bra shopping and I hate bras. I'd say if you have an hour without kids, go and try on as many different styles and sizes that you think might work and see what fits you. Different shops seem to come up different too. I find it's a bit like shopping for jeans but a bit more demoralising.

Fairylea · 13/04/2018 14:20

I think if you tried a Deco bra from Bravissimo in a 32GG it would fit amazingly. (It’s the same style of bra that you like and are wearing but more supportive).
