Keratosis pilaris- has anything worked 100% for you? Thinking about chemical peel

FatBallsAndSunflowerSeeds · 13/04/2018 10:17

I've tried so much. It's really getting me down, I hate how rough and ugly it still is. I'd say I've improved it maybe 80% but nothing seems to get rid of it altogether!

I've tried scrubs, numerous creams including flexitol and nip and fab body, and diet (which did improve it massively so I'm back on gluten and dairy free now). I've started taking vitamin d and fish oil. I'm going to get some vitamin A as I understand that is important for kp.

At the moment I don't scrub (which has helped the redness but not the texture) and I apply Palmers cocoa butter cream twice a day, including the one containing AHA or whatever. I use nip and fab glycolic pads on my arms every couple of days. I feel this is keeping my kp somewhat in check but as I say it's still there and I hate it.

Has anyone tried a chemical peel type treatment for kp on the body?

The only thing that worked for me was Ameliorate Transforming body lotion, which you can get from M&S or Amazon.

I got some in the M&S beauty advent calendar and have kept buying it as my arms have never been so smooth.

mittensofsteel · 13/04/2018 10:23

I saw a dermatologist about it years ago who recommended using a scrub of table salt, olive oil and fresh lemon juice. It worked and never came back.

StealthPolarBear · 13/04/2018 10:26

I can manage it using a newton's chiropody sponge. Doesn't get rid though

StealthPolarBear · 13/04/2018 10:27

Mittens did you put it on and leave it? How often did you do it

CiderwithBuda · 13/04/2018 10:28

Do you use shower gel? Mine is much better since switching to soap.

FatBallsAndSunflowerSeeds · 13/04/2018 10:40

I have tried olive oil and salt but not with lemon so that's interesting, maybe the acid does something?

I have a Newton's sponge but never thought about trying it on my kp!

I have looked at Ameliorate but the reviews seem to be mixed. I might try it when I can afford it though.

Oh yes and I've recently switched to soap (because of Mumsnet!) which I use on exfoliating gloves. I prefer it to shower gel but it seems to have minimal effect on my kp.

I'm not sur e how old you are or how long you have had it but you may well grow our of it, my son had it badly in hics his latest teens, early twenties, he's now 29 and there's no sign of it.

FatBallsAndSunflowerSeeds · 13/04/2018 12:08

Sadly I think I'm past growing out of it goose, I'm 45. Sad

DD's also disappeared almost with Ameliorate.

blodynmawr · 13/04/2018 12:40

Max strength cod liver oil.

BoudicasBoudoir · 13/04/2018 15:57

This really helps mine. Arms feel smooth for the first time in decades. Rub soap/ shower gel into cloth and then scrub. (Other cloths/sponges haven’t worked nearly as well.)

FatBallsAndSunflowerSeeds · 13/04/2018 18:42

That does sound good Boudicas, I think I will get one of those thanks! I've looked at similar cloths but you had to soak your skin for a time before using and I don't have a bath.

DD's disappeared virtually overnight after swimming in the sea. Might not be a good idea at the moment!

Gatekeeper · 14/04/2018 07:27

Watching with interest as ds has this on his cheeks and isn't improving

HerbWoman · 14/04/2018 07:32

Mine disappeared completely when I was diagnosed with coeliac and stopped eating gluten. Have heard a few others mention it can be associated with gluten too.

Bonelessbanquet · 14/04/2018 07:32

I have mine on my face, I’m 28 and feel like a teenager again. Have tried various things and nothing has worked so far. I find the more I moisturise the less angry it looks but haven’t managed to actually shift any of it.

epicclusterfuck · 14/04/2018 07:59

Herbwoman I was going to say exactly the same! The backs of my arms were affected and it has completely gone since going gluten free - might be worth a blood test for coeliac just in case?

BWatchWatcher · 14/04/2018 08:02

My son’s kp also vanished after 2 weeks in the sea.

Mine almost disappears after I go on foreign holidays come to think of it - I don't know if it's the sun, the chlorine in the pool or the seawater.

Lactic acid 5% or 10% from the Ordinary. Many ppl on the Fb group have said it helped their KP. You could use the 10% on body and start with 5% on your face.

Branleuse · 14/04/2018 10:38

i found occasional use of a hair removal cream on it dissolved the excess keratin and smoothed it all out a lot

InTheRoseGarden · 14/04/2018 10:54

When I was first pregnant I used Bio-Oil and it went away completely and never came back. So it was either pregnancy or the Bio-Oil!

WillyWasAWatchdog · 14/04/2018 11:22

I use Argan oil body scrub from the Body Shop which is pretty good but doesn't get rid of it completely. I've just ordered some Ameliorate cream to try after reading these posts, hopefully my arms will be as smooth as a baby's bum by the summer!Grin
