Keratosis pilaris- has anything worked 100% for you? Thinking about chemical peel

FatBallsAndSunflowerSeeds · 13/04/2018 10:17

I've tried so much. It's really getting me down, I hate how rough and ugly it still is. I'd say I've improved it maybe 80% but nothing seems to get rid of it altogether!

I've tried scrubs, numerous creams including flexitol and nip and fab body, and diet (which did improve it massively so I'm back on gluten and dairy free now). I've started taking vitamin d and fish oil. I'm going to get some vitamin A as I understand that is important for kp.

At the moment I don't scrub (which has helped the redness but not the texture) and I apply Palmers cocoa butter cream twice a day, including the one containing AHA or whatever. I use nip and fab glycolic pads on my arms every couple of days. I feel this is keeping my kp somewhat in check but as I say it's still there and I hate it.

Has anyone tried a chemical peel type treatment for kp on the body?

I've had this for my entire life. ☹

To my horror, it's been creeping up my neck to my face these recent years. 😱

I have literally dozens of different bottles, tubs and tubes of moisturisers and creams sitting on my batheoom shelves.

The Ameliorate stuff kinda worked, but not well enough to consider throwing everything else out and buying that. 😭

FatBallsAndSunflowerSeeds · 14/04/2018 11:32

Branleuse hair removal cream sounds interesting, that's something I haven't tried yet thanks. I will also look into the lactic acid.

Lifeaback · 14/04/2018 11:38

Lactic acid breaks down the buildup of dead skin skills which is what causes KP. Lactic acid is the main active ingredient in all the products on the market for KP.

I have been using ameliorate cream for the past two weeks and it has drastically improved mine. It hasn't totally disappeared, but it says to keep using for 4 weeks. I think consistency is key for clearing up KP- a lot of people get disheartened and don't give treatments the reccomended amount of time so don't see any difference. Whatever remedy you to try to use, stick at it for a month before dismissing it!

Lifeaback · 14/04/2018 11:44

I didn't take a before pic but here's what mine is looking like now two weeks after starting the ameliorate cream. It's still there but is a lot less red and angry and I'm feeling more and more confident every day. I think this summer might be the first in years where I brave sleeveless tops!

I've just bought one of those cloths on amazon, hoping it smooths me out a bit!

I have been using the nip and fab glycolic fix cream and it hasn't made much difference Sad

FatBallsAndSunflowerSeeds · 14/04/2018 12:32

Your arms look almost perfect to me Life - I'd be ecstatic if my arms looked like yours! I have it on my legs and arms but I hate the kp on my forearms most of all Sad

Try a cream with 10% urea in it, amazing stuff!

NiteFlights · 14/04/2018 13:29

I used Dermadoctor KP Duty scrub and cream. You can get them on Amazon and they also used to be in Selfridges. After a few months my kp was pretty much gone and I then used Eucerin with 10% urea for a while. I don't have issues with kp any more. I sometimes use a sugar and olive oil home made scrub, Nip&Fab pads or Palmers AHA/BHA body lotion for a bit of maintenance.

I think what worked was using a really scrubby scrub and a strong cream, regularly and over a longish period of time.

Good luck.

knottybeams · 14/04/2018 14:20

Low carb diet helps.

Cathpot · 14/04/2018 14:25

I’ve had some success with foot softening cream which has urea in it as does the ameliorate cream

ImAGoofyGoober · 14/04/2018 14:42

I’ve never found a way, given up trying as the trying was stressing me out.

Youradviceneeded · 14/04/2018 14:48

When you say you tried flexitol, was it the standard flexitol for feet that you tried? As I tried that too, but the urea content was way too high for he and it made me sticky and blocked the pores and possibly made it worse.

I had kp for twenty odd years. I am 42. I Got rid of it a couple of years ago completely with either a 5% or 10% urea cream. I think normal flexitol foot cream is 20% urea. I think it was a Garnier one that I bought. If not, it was fleitol for legs.

StealthPolarBear · 14/04/2018 14:49

Normal foot flexitime helped mine but I put it on at bedtime

quirkychick · 14/04/2018 14:51

I was going to say changing my diet. Since going low carb 6yrs ago mine has completely gone, not sure if it's gluten (I eat mostly gluten-free), little sugar or eating lots of healthy fats. I don't ever scrub now and rarely need moisturiser/body lotion either.

MerryDeath · 14/04/2018 17:59

i've tried everything. ameliorate and a host of other acids is ok. chemical peels i've bought from MUAC are ok. i've had enough now so I'm going to be lasered to kill the hairs. i should be giving up gluten but 😢

mittensofsteel · 14/04/2018 18:25

@StealthPolarBear and @FatBallsAndSunflowerSeeds - sorry, should have said. Apply it to damp skin, scrub and then rinse. I have pretty sensitive skin but I still use it as a body scrub from time to time because it’s so softening but I remember being utterly astonished that the Ketosis Pillaris went away.

The dermatologist was insistent I used cheap table salt so I have never deviated from this advice. I think it might be because it doesn’t scratch and irritate the skin at all.

StealthPolarBear · 14/04/2018 18:34

Will try it thank you :) and report back

Gwenhwyfar · 14/04/2018 21:25

The Palmers AHA didn't do anything for my KP. The Palmers small bottles for rough skin is better just because it's a very rich moisturiser.
Recently I've been using Dove shower oil rather than a shower gel and it's been a bit better.
Cod Liver Oil and Omega 3 supplements never helped.
I can't find Ameliorate in my local Boots or M&S. I suppose I'll have to try online.
I've also heard about giving up dairy and gluten, but find both things quite drastic to do 'just to try'.

Gwenhwyfar · 14/04/2018 21:29

Oh yes, the green cloth extolled on here did nothing either. I can't bring myself to be enough of a masochist to use that horrible, black sponge.

Dozer · 14/04/2018 21:34

I have it all over, and just ignore it.

StealthPolarBear · 14/04/2018 21:36

Th e Black sponge is really gentle I promise. Sort of crumbles as you rub it and takes the dry skin with it.
I have it on my arms only and can't ignore it. Feeling how bad or good it is is a habit. It must be awful to have it on your face (and I'm not suggesting the Newton sponge for there!!)

travailtotravel · 14/04/2018 21:36

Selenium and vit d, via a daily multi vit with minerals. At laast a litre water daily. Was so bad I hated it. Not a sign of it now. I kid you not.

travailtotravel · 14/04/2018 21:37

Oh, and I also switched to soap rather than shower gel.

Gwenhwyfar · 14/04/2018 21:40

Interesting to hear about the laser. Does that mean that the IPL machines you use at home would also work?

Stopyourhavering64 · 14/04/2018 21:42

Aveeno worked for my daughter
