Ok, so are these jeans meant to be the new look?

So following on from the skinny jeans threads I have been doing some online research and I'm googling girlfriend jeans came across some on the Isabel marant website... I must be getting old as I would look terrible in any of those....

Next boyfriend jeans are a good length. Not bad styling either, for the price.

Thanks raisins! Back on topic I also like the first pair in the link but really not the others - Topshop have some similar to the first. I chanced some of those on Ebay too and really like the shape, not used to a higher waist these days, but am hoping they'll be my summer faves.

Thanks AnyFucker, I'll check out Next.

Hmmm I weep for the futureSad Me and jeans might need to part company if these veggies become the fashion. I don't suit any of them.

Baggies fgsGrin

Jeans and I parted ways five years ago. My old ones fell apart and I couldn't buy anything but hideous skinnies, so I broke up with them. Dirndl skirts, harem trousers, palazzo pants and maxis are my friends. Join us.

(I did have to let in leggings, who had previously been my sworn enemy, but they aren't too bad with tunics and boots.)

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 08/04/2018 14:48

I'm always saying I'm going to start wearing more skirts maybe it's time to stop faffing and fully commit. Should be easy with summer coming.

PoorYorick · 08/04/2018 16:43

It's easy in winter too, any length looks good with knee high boots.

ferrier · 10/04/2018 00:41

Yup. I've been wearing skirts for years now. Jeans only resurfaced for me in the last year when I lost some weight and most of the muffin top which made them hideously uncomfortable.

None of the styles of jeans linked are strange at all. They are just trend pieces.

Girlfriend jeans aren’t too different from ‘mom’ style jeans, just take a look at topshop to see how the average person can style them. They are cool/casual.

Cropped/culottes/wide leg denim are less popular but are on trend for this season. In spring/summer trends are casual/slouchy and you have boho or festival inspired looks taking over in fashion retail. You’d probably pair these jeans with pastels, frills, crochet and florals. They are not really intended to be everyday jeans, but just trendy items/one outfit wonder sort of deal. These styles virtually always end up in the sale so if you’re interested in trying them out, I would recommend waiting

Can't be doing with the new style cropped wide leg and I don't suit girlfriend/boyfriend/mom jeans. I do love a 70s style flare, but they have to be tight on the top part and full length. I love, love jeans, hate skirts and dresses, haven't worn a skirt since school (30yrs ago) and have only worn one dress (bar my wedding dress) since then.
Guess I'm going to be unfashionable for a few yrs. But as I haven't seen anyone, young or old wearing wide legs, where I live, I probably won't be on my own!

athingthateveryoneneeds · 10/04/2018 05:36

There's a college student that wears cropped wide legged jeans with ripped hems, long socks or tights and clunky shoes. She is committed to this look, but I'm not convinced it is something 2-decades-older-me should try.

I am tall but my height is in my torso rather than my legs. They are quite stumpy but I'm used to the skinny jeans silhouette now. I can't get behind bootcut or wide legged jeans anymore. I'm interested in straight legged jeans or cigarette cut trousers more than anything.

toffee1000 · 10/04/2018 06:07

I don’t like the look of cropped leg trousers. They just look like the wearer’s too tall for them/the wearer has outgrown them. Particularly if they’re wide-leg as well, they just look huge and flappy like clown trousers.

MrsGorilla · 10/04/2018 08:04

Basically unless the wearer is skinny of leg cropped trousers are likely to be v unflattering. Like most fashion they’re not designed for most people!

Floisme · 10/04/2018 08:23

I think it depends on where the crop happens. A lot of them are mid calf - fattest point of your lower leg. I'm not keen on that, not even on the longest or thinnest of legs. But if they end at the top of the ankle - the thinnest point of the leg for a lot of people - then I think it can look good.

I get it that tall people aren't so keen because it reminds them of wearing trousers that are too short. And I know if you have cankles it's not great either. Nothing suits everyone. I'm short with good ankles and I really like them.

But quite honestly, even if I wasn't convinced, I'd probably give them a go because I'm bored senseless with the skinnies-biker-scarf or skinnies-stripy top look. They're not bad looks in themselves but I'm tired of them now and as far as I'm concerned, any change is good.

ocelot41 · 10/04/2018 08:28

I live in Scotland. Cropped anything is just ridiculously impractical, leaving a little band of gooseflesh above the ankle. And which mother of small kids wears jeans with dainty heels? Can one run in those? Heck, can one even walk for long in those without major blisters? I bet the cropped look looks pretty silly with ankle boots!
