So following on from the skinny jeans threads I have been doing some online research and I'm googling girlfriend jeans came across some on the Isabel marant website... I must be getting old as I would look terrible in any of those....

Wow TheJoyOfSox those shorts are short shorts. That poor woman looks like she's been infected with a voracious denim eating virus.

Casmama · 06/04/2018 23:00

I totally agree. There are many styles of jeans that seem totally unflattering and ill-fitting- as if made in the 80s before Lycra was invented.

Bluntness100 · 06/04/2018 23:10

The hush ones look nice. The morant ones are laughable. I'd consider then corliffe ones but that's it. The rest are shockingly bad. Even the models and the photographer can't make them look good.

Hello the 1980s.

ShopoholicIn · 07/04/2018 00:14

TheJoyOfSox
Is it summer already where you areGrin

SD1978 · 07/04/2018 00:25

How high up to the hush ones come on the waist? I have a roll sadly, anything that sits below the roll accentuates it, do these pull up over guts?

ferrier · 07/04/2018 01:19

Description says low rise, sits on hips.
They look a bit higher than that on the model - they really should have an angle where you can see the waist band.

Mumontherocks1 · 07/04/2018 01:26

They are all brutal. Get youself down the High Street.

Ivebeenaroundtheblock · 07/04/2018 01:34

i hate with a passion that extra fabric at the front of the crotch/below zipper.
when you sit down that extra fabric pops up like purse sitting on your lap...or worse
meanwhile 50 years ago that extra front fabric would be considered a sign of a poor fit. not quite getting the waist length and rise right.

i do like a wide leg crop...that fits properly and is the right length for your leg.

MoleskinMittens · 07/04/2018 01:51

This pleases me. As a fat legged shortarse with cankles, for whom skinny jeans are an impossibility (the mantra 'just because you can, doesn't mean you should rings true for leggings and jeans imo), it means I'm finally going to be able to buy jeans. Grin The cropped ones should hang just perfectly at floor length for me, without any alterations.
So pleased!

Tantpoke · 07/04/2018 03:32

The Corby one are just Confused

mathanxiety · 07/04/2018 03:37

There is no way shorter length wide leg jeans could possibly look good on anyone. Even the model looks as if she is considering a paper bag over her head dressed in those monstrosities.

mathanxiety · 07/04/2018 03:38

Oh dear Lord, TheJoyofSox, is that what I have to look forward to all summer in my local Walmart Shock

AngryAttackKittens · 07/04/2018 04:24

Wow, those shorts are hideous. Just in case thong knickers weren't uncomfortable enough, how about making the bit that goes up your arse crack out of denim?

No thank you, Pretty Little Thing.

Coyoacan · 07/04/2018 05:06

The cut is horrible. I can get jeans as badly cut as those for 5 pounds.

BalloonFlowers · 07/04/2018 05:12

I hate the cropped /ankle length look. I feel like I've not bothered buying long legged trousers, and am wearing a pair for someone 2 inches shorter than me.

Bluntness100 · 07/04/2018 08:07

I quite like the ones that are Capri length, I think they are good in summer with flip flops. But they have to be a straight leg not a skinny. I can't get my head round ankle grazers, I always just feel like my jeans are too short, and as my granny used to say, that I look like "my cat just died".

God knows where that saying come from 🤣

Bluntness100 · 07/04/2018 08:10

Agree, it's nigh on impossible to look good, it's made worse becayse denim is a heavy fabric. It's really unflattering on everyone.

MrsGorilla · 07/04/2018 08:45

The Hush ones are lovely but I hate having cold ankles! And if one is large of arse and hip do they suit?!

gubble · 07/04/2018 09:25

They are just summer jeans , I wear looser fitting jeans in the summer .

Floisme · 07/04/2018 10:32

I like a wide leg but only if it has a high waist and is cut to skim past my arse. They give me a completely different silhouette and make my short legs look longer. I also like cropped but I want ankle length, not mid calf.

But that's just me and if you don't like the sound of it, there are plenty of other styles out there, and surely that's the great thing about jeans right now - that there isn't a really dominant shape? My local branch of H&M isn't large but they've got skinnies, straight leg, girlfriend/boyfriend, flares/bootcuts and wide leg. I can't ever remember seeing so many different styles before in a fast fashion store.

I really think we ought to make the most of having so much choice because it's highly unusual and I very much doubt it will last.

Strugglingtodomybest · 07/04/2018 10:39

Is anywhere selling full length boyfriend jeans? I bought a pair from Fatface and they only came to my ankle and they tapered. They just needed an elasticated waist to complete the granny jeans look.

heidipi · 07/04/2018 13:59

Slight derail - I'm watching some Hush boyfriend jeans on Ebay, anyone know how the sizing is? I'm usually a high st 12, but can be a 10 if the style isn't skinny so am wondering whether to go for 12 or feel lucky and try 10. Dithering...

raisinsraisins · 07/04/2018 14:58

I've bought a couple of skirts from Hush and they come up really big, I always have to size down, so probably best to size down with the jeans. If you look up Hush on the John Lewis site they often have reviews....

Freetodowhatiwant · 07/04/2018 15:05

I look terrible in skinny jeans. I’m a curvy 5.5, wear a size 12, and my legs just feel like sausages and my slim ankles that can look good in a skirt just make the tops of my legs look even sausagier. Hence I haven’t really worn jeans for about ten years either. I recently bought some in GAP - just because I tried them on and they seemed ok. I went for Girlfriend. The boyfriend ones just made me look like I was wearing leg tents. The Girlfriend ones are not hideous. Which is saying something.
