Talk me into or out of Palamairas

So I've been eyeing up a pair of these bad boys for a while but have been put off by we people saying they don't stay on their feet. I've seen some of their styles now have an ankle strap which I don't usually like to wear as it can make legs look shorter. So what do you reckon to Palmairas?

I might have just received these in the post today! The sole is a bit thicker so I hope they will be ok.
