Help - jeans length dilemma (photos)

I really struggle with what's the right length for skinny jeans. To cuff? Not to cuff? What kind of cuff? With boots, trainers, heels...whatever.

What looks right on other people just doesn't seem to on me.

Being tall I have the fear of too short jeans/trousers anyway which probably doesn't help.

I'm slim but curvy (I have a waist, hips and - -chunky-- muscular calves) so I was delighted to see Gap skinny curvy jeans recommended on MN. As a result my bedroom now looks like a Gap stock room I ordered so many pairs in different colours, sizes and lengths.

Trouble is the tall are very long, about 3 inches longer than the regular, so I definitely need to cuff them. I'd really like a pair that are just the right length without cuffing as I'm not sure a cuff looks right on me. Somehow it makes my legs look stubby and cut off especially if there's a high contrast like you get with dark jeans (and I prefer dark). Maybe it's because my calves are chunky compared to my ankles.

Here are some photos with different footwear, the heels are the highest I wear these days as my 50 year old knees can't handle any higher. What do you think? (I'm not going to say what I think yet).

P. S. Sorry this is so long! Blush

You look bloody amazing in all of them, all ways.

I have 3 pairs of grey jeans of varying lengths: inside boots, with high heels, with trainers.

Or i go long and roll up. I did try roll ups above boots, but may be too old to pull it off.

MsHomeSlice · 05/04/2018 14:52

i think the last pic with boot/flipflop are the right ones for you....the cuff looks fine with the boot, and I reckon you'd get away with that with a flat pump/plimpsoll too

also down is a good length with the flip flop.

other two pics look a bit short imo.

Babyiwantabump · 05/04/2018 14:52

My personal preference would be the third photo of the first set of three - to foot with flip flops and cuff above boot .

MsHomeSlice · 05/04/2018 14:54

oh, more pics!!

I do not like the darker ones! and previous comment was all about the first set of pics.

Agustarella · 05/04/2018 15:01

You look fantastic, calves not at all chunky. The first picture with high heels is nicest, shame it's not practical to wear heels all the time. Not a fan of cuffed jeans but I think tall people like yourself get away with it. On short people it looks like they bought standard length and CBA to take them up!

peonylover22 · 05/04/2018 15:07

I like the last of the first series of jeans. You look great!
Now I’m a tall pear shape too - do I need some of these jeans too? Are they genuinely cut for a curvy bottom and narrower waist, not just stretchy???? I used to love Levi Bold Curve and really need a good replacement...

SundayGirls · 05/04/2018 15:12

In your first set of pics - Longer length with cuff on boot and going all the way down to ankle with flip flop looks better than the short ones.

In the "a few more" post, the ones with the mint colour courts look good, the rest (with the gap between boot and jean) look too short. Either it's the same pair of jeans in which case I'd buy the ones with the mint shoes to wear with heels, and I'd buy the longer pair to wear with boots and flip-flops. They are more slimming/flattering to the ankle and leg length overall.

The thing I dislike most about these sorts of jeans is how the ankle kicks out right at the bottom, probably so you can get your feet through them, but still... I personally never find them flattering for ankles when they do this... I'm your kind of shape/height (although you're slimmer!) and find slightly too short/ankle grazers make me feel stumpy and out of proportion. I either go long, or 3/4 length (rolled up a little) but just above the ankle doesn't flatter me at all.

PitilessYank · 05/04/2018 15:12

You look terrific with all of the different cuff iterations.

OCSockOrphanage · 05/04/2018 15:13

Is keeping both pairs an option? Pic 1 with heels and pic 3 are the best looks, and I prefer that pair, but you look good in both colours (and if you have chunky calves, then there's no word for mine).

BrazzleDazzleDay · 05/04/2018 15:16

The first ones the only ones that look right to me.

I dont think the black does anything for you, your legs look amazing in the blues.

amymel2016 · 05/04/2018 15:17

Wowzers! You have an amazing figure!! I like the lighter pair without the turn ups

ditesmoitout · 05/04/2018 15:19
  1. You have an amazing figure!
  2. I think that the first photo of the first post is the best look!
AllPizzasGreatAndSmall · 05/04/2018 15:20

I agree the photo where the jeans meet your flip flops and cuffed with boots looks best. I'm a similar size and shape to you but shorter, can I ask what size you are wearing - Gap sizing can vary so much between styles.

StillAqueo · 05/04/2018 15:31

Wow - thanks for all the replies.

@peonylover22 - yes, they really are cut for a waist and curvy bottom (I'm curvier than I look as I'm tall - most skinny jeans won't even go up my legs and waists usually gape). Give them a try!

I know just what you mean Sunday - they always 'kick out' on me and I don't like it. I think maybe it's because they're too short so therefore too narrow on the calf so they get kind of pulled up on one edge.

OK, I think I'm in agreement with the consensus. I'll keep the longer lighter pair (unless I decide they're too similar to a pair I recently got from LTS - or maybe I could keep them anyway and shorten one pair?). I agree that the dark ones are too short and I'm going to see if they have them in tall.

Interestingly I ordered a white pair which looked OK in the regular length, possibly because the cropped look is more summery and the contrast is not so great with my pale skin. I've tried the white jeans and boots look before and I just look like a painter and decorator! Grin

Thanks all

You look amazing! I like the first picture, and the longer ones. Don't like the black ones at all.

Oblomov18 · 05/04/2018 15:35

OMG your legs are beyond amazing.
The first pair are too short.
The second blue pair are the best length.

Oblomov18 · 05/04/2018 15:36

The side view with the light green shoes.

StillAqueo · 05/04/2018 15:37

@AllPizzasGreatAndSmall I'm wearing the UK 8T/27T and UK 8R/27R. I have found in the past that the Tall sizes are actually bigger than the regular sizes but that doesn't seem to be the case this time.

You look amazing in all of them. And you're 50???
slinks off to pore over Slimming World literature, completely missing the point of this thread..

MinisWin · 05/04/2018 15:48

I personally think that the first pair in the first set of pics looks the best with all 3 footwear options. I’m probably not dissimilar proportions to you (tall but reasonably muscular, wish my arse was like yours though!) and definitely agree that cuffing jeans cuts the leg off in a weird way. The exception to that being black jeans - when I think there needs not to be a gap at all with boots - looks much sleeker. For reference I’m late twenties but dress in a fairly low key way (Cos/Zara/whistles/H&M etc).

peonylover22 · 05/04/2018 15:49

@StillAqueo ooooh this is very exciting! Can you link the blue pair please?
