I'm in need of the collective wisdom of mn!! Every high street clothes shop I go into is filled with lovely designs on disgusting material Shock I can't wear polyester tops, I'm a lady that sweats glows ALOT and polyester makes me hot, which means I sweat which means I smell. Not great Sad

Can anyone suggest any shops that have more cotton blended into their tops or clothes in general please?
I'm not made of money, sadly, tops ideally wouldn't be more than £20/£25 each, online is fine, London based shops are fine, I'll take any ideas please, please, please!

Also, while I'm hereWink what about deodorant? Any suggestions to help with the excess glowing?

Please and thank you for any suggestions!

Regarding deodorant, I use Dove and it seems fine, but since switching from shower gel to soap (tkmaxx lovely stuff) I don't seem as smelly by the end of the day. Not at all actually...
Cotton/linen - I find some in H&M, Uniqglo and Primark.

Lunaballoon · 04/04/2018 20:41

Totally agree on the shops being full of polyester! Esprit have a decent selection of cotton tops, though not particularly cheap.

Firsttimelondonmum · 04/04/2018 20:42

Cotton in H&M??? In a specific range? I looked in there last week-cotton crop tops for teens, polyester blouses for ladies Sad
Thanks for the Dove mention, is it the spray version or roll on?

Just use a decent soap every day and Mitchum

TheHumanMothboy · 04/04/2018 20:43

Uniqlo and Miki, and usually Gap.

littlebillie · 04/04/2018 20:43

Never use the gels they are bad for the environment and don't clean you properly

letiziana · 04/04/2018 20:46

marks and spencer do some 100 % cotton shirts and dresses, they are really nice

woodhill · 04/04/2018 20:46

I won't buy polyester

PurpleFuschia4 · 04/04/2018 20:48

Literally ordered some of these yesterday:

Shenanagins · 04/04/2018 20:50

Keep an eye on warehouse as last summer I got a few 100% cotton shirts from there.

DollyDayScream · 04/04/2018 20:58

I loathe polyester and nylon, but see it more and more across all ranges - not just next and cheap shops!

Viviene · 04/04/2018 22:14

I can't wear polyester for the same reason. I wear cotton, silk and viscose.
Esprit, Seasalt, Fatface all have cotton tops.
TKMaxx is good if you have one nearby.

Notcontent · 04/04/2018 22:21

Yes, polyester is cheap and so the shops are full of it. You can avoid it but you just have to be selective.

Firsttimelondonmum · 04/04/2018 22:22

Thanks for the helpful replies everyone, plenty of places for me to look up!
It's so rubbish that clothes are being made so cheaply now, i have no idea what my DC will be wearing in 20/30 years!

Also can anyone simply explain the difference between polyester and viscose please?

The thing that bothers me is that washing synthetic fabrics adds to the problems in the oceans and fish being contaminated - surely manufactures could try and be responsible to help us all

Just watching this thread as I hate polyester with a passion!

SansaClegane · 04/04/2018 22:41

Mitchum for deodorant.
H&M do have loads of cotton! Organic even! It's just a bit tucked away in their 'basics' range though so probably not their most fashionable items. Another tip - check out their children's/ girls' basics in organic cotton, the biggest age size fits a size 10 and they're proper cheap! Great for layering.
Even Primark do some good cotton dresses, you just have to hunt for them in a sea of polyester. not helpful
Otherwise Gap, I know their prices can be high but they've seriously always got %off codes or sales on so you don't ever have to pay full price.

Jeffjefftyjeff · 04/04/2018 22:51

I prefer natural fibres and really struggle with finding them too, particularly online where you can’t tell without reading small print. If anyone knows of websites where you can filter by what clothes are made of i would be really interested! I’ve found Zara do some cotton basics and currently have a specific range (calm and something?) that is linen and cotton. Otherwise people tree, but that isn’t cheap.

Scootingthebreeze · 05/04/2018 00:02

Mitcham roll on deodrant (I use unscented). If in a hurry I can get away with the spray instead

Clothes - mantaray do lots of cotton (debenhams) and next have pure cotton tops online which I've never found in shops so might be worth looking there

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 05/04/2018 00:09

There were some lovely cotton blouses and shirts in John Lewis yesterday. All of them at eye watering prices. £95 to 155.

The rest, affordably so, was all polyester.

How did this happen?

AuldAlliance · 05/04/2018 05:18

Esprit have pure cotton tops and if you click on T-shirts, 100% cotton is one option on the menu.

DianaT1969 · 05/04/2018 05:30

Cotton in H&M???
I do have to get my glasses out and search in H&M. But I have a big one near me. I use this t-shirt for layering, 109% cotton. My last purchase were side zip trousers recommended on here @60% cotton. Thinking of getting this cotton pyjama short set in blue too for a holiday.

Viscose is made from wood, from cellulose that is treated and pressed through holes to make thread. I think it is biodegradable. Polyester is made from oil, I suppose it is biodegradable in the loooooong term.

Luckingfovely · 05/04/2018 05:44

To echo pp, switching from shower gel to lovely proper soap (TKMaxx) has been a complete game changer in terms of how fresh you feel and for how long.
