I'm in need of the collective wisdom of mn!! Every high street clothes shop I go into is filled with lovely designs on disgusting material Shock I can't wear polyester tops, I'm a lady that sweats glows ALOT and polyester makes me hot, which means I sweat which means I smell. Not great Sad

Can anyone suggest any shops that have more cotton blended into their tops or clothes in general please?
I'm not made of money, sadly, tops ideally wouldn't be more than £20/£25 each, online is fine, London based shops are fine, I'll take any ideas please, please, please!

Also, while I'm hereWink what about deodorant? Any suggestions to help with the excess glowing?

Please and thank you for any suggestions!

I like Nomad Clothing. Also sweaty and like Sure roll on. I hate strong products and don't use anything like this anywhere else but I am so sweaty I can't avoid it.

Lettherebelight · 05/04/2018 06:11

If you are after casual clothes it could be worth looking off the high street too. I was literally just looking at organic cotton t-shirts here for £15 gnarly tree

goose1964 · 05/04/2018 06:59

Another vote for mitchum ,I went through a sweaty phase in my teens and it was the only thing that worked. I'm not sure if they still do the cream rather than the roll on that was the stronger one.

I see, viscose is more natural than polyester-I might have to try that out.
Thanks for the tips about using soap over shower gel, I'll definitely try that!
The shop recommendations are great, thanks to every one who has replied.

I shop a lot on eBay, for this reason. You can choose which fabrics you want to see, and also select 'brand new' only if you're not keen on second hand. Selecting natural fibres usually takes your search from 30,000 items down to about 300, and once you add in size and colour preferences it gets very manageable. Pick a 'UK only' item location to filter out the thousands of identical things from China.

If you look online, a lot of high street shops have Premium ranges (e.g. h&m, Sainsbury's Tu) which are more likely to be natural fibres. M&S have introduced a fabric filter on their site too.

I feel your pain. I'm quite sensitive to fabric stuff (I unpick all labels inside garments straight away, or they drive me mad) and find going around physical shops a massive waste of time, usually. TK Maxx is sometimes worth a look, just because they stock clothes by so many manufacturers. (And also have a premium section...) In there, I shop 'by hand' - just walk along a rail feeling every item on it until I find something that's not synthetic crap. Sounds time consuming but honestly, you can feel instantly if something is made out of synthetic rubbish.

Uniqlo. I use soap instead of gel, feels much more effective and www.hollandandbarrett.com/shop/product/dr-organic-aloe-vera-deodorant-60083688?skuid=083688&brandId=333

bingohandjob · 05/04/2018 08:54

Also, bambooclothing.co.uk and I avoid the ditsy/fussy stuff and find the plain items from Thought are good quality and feel really nice to wear www.wearethought.com

re: glow/smell. In summer I:

A use these together:

  1. solid stick deodorant
  2. Dove spray deo
  3. medicated talcum powder

B shave armpits as often as possible (to get rid of places for smells to hide), which is about ev. 2-3 days for me.

C change bra everyday. This means I wash bras every other day.

hope this helps

OP Lindex is the answer to your prayers! It's 100% organic cotton and really affordable. I shop online but they do have a few stores in London. I've been so happy with my purchases and the clothes are really on trend too. I think it's a Scandi company.

GimbleInTheWabe · 05/04/2018 09:20

£4.99! For 100% organic cotton! Bargain!

PeopleTree are good - only when they have a 70% sale on though!

Synecdoche · 05/04/2018 10:48

Gap for cotton tops.
Have you tried Perspirex? You put it on overnight and it lasts for a few days. It really works (but does sting a bit at first).

Firsttimelondonmum · 05/04/2018 16:27

Thank you so much for the posters giving advice about deo/soap changes.
I've walked past Lindex in Westfield without a glance-I'll be browsing big time on the weekend! Think Gap may be out of my price range but I'll pop in to check. Thanks for all the other suggestions and the tip about eBay searches Grin

Gap have frequent sales and discounts codes eg 30% off, so you never have to pay full price. I recently bought two cotton tv shirts for £5-£8 each.

I've found that most shops will have items in natural fibres, but they are hidden amongst all the crap. Last year, I bought two pairs of trousers from Sainsbury's in linen and Cotton for under £20 each - I waited until one of their frequent 25% off events.

FabalaTheGreenGirl · 05/04/2018 19:07

Primark and HM basics have lots of cotton tops. I buy basic block colour and Breton tops from Primark, as they're basically the same quality as more expensive ones from anywhere else.

Mybabystolemysanity · 05/04/2018 19:14

Regards viscose. Cold wash only or it shrinks and you'll only wear the garment once. I now buy a size bigger than I think I need

JellicleCat · 05/04/2018 19:32

I agree with suggestions of Seasalt, Nomads and Uniqlo. Also Weird Fish, though I haven't bought any if their stuff (yet).

I hate polyester, it doesn't matter how good the deodorant or washing, it's the lack of breathability that makes me sweat. Viscose is OK, but sometimes creases like mad.

PhyllisWig · 05/04/2018 19:47

Was going to suggest GAP too - if you are close to a GAP outlet store they have 50% off everything. I got tshirts, shirts, jumper, cardigan and some chinos all cotton last weekend.

woodhill · 06/04/2018 12:49

I found the cotton shrinks e.g. white stuff and they mix it with modal
