Holiday friendly shoes

What sort of shoes do you lot tend to take on holiday?

Planning ahead for our honeymoon later this year & I’m in need of a mixture of stylish (for dinner), super comfy (for exploring ancient ruins) and sand-friendly (for lolloping on the beach).

Does anybody rate FitFlops or Skechers? I have a love/hate relationship with Birkenstocks (first pair were great but the last pair completely shredded my feet)

Yes to Skechers for sightseeing.

Palmaira sandals - I've had a pair the last couple of summers and ended up wearing little else on holiday.

UncomfortableBadger · 01/04/2018 18:16

Ooh! Like the look of the Palmairas - how do you find the sizing, onemouseplace?

I use Skechers for sight seeing and rocket dog flip flops which are very comfortable.

I do like the idea of the Palmaira as well.

canyouhearme123 · 01/04/2018 18:22

Deffo palmairas. I have 3 pairs.
Tan colour for day/casual and sparkly for evenings.

onemouseplace · 01/04/2018 18:28

UncomfortableBadger true to size, but they do stretch a bit (especially the strap, so I'd probably go down rather than up if I was between sizes.

UncomfortableBadger · 01/04/2018 18:29

Awesome - thanks so much!

Converse

Juancornetto · 02/04/2018 07:40

I always wear Toms in the summer. They have a sale on at the moment

BarryChuckle · 02/04/2018 07:41

Birkenstocks

LoniceraJaponica · 02/04/2018 07:47

Nothing beats Sketchers Go Walk for comfort when sightseeing. Ignore the sneery comments about them on here. They aren't a thing of beauty but are insanely comfortable. Converse offer zero support and are almost guaranteed to give you aching feet by the end of a day's hard sightseeing.

JessieMcJessie · 02/04/2018 07:48

Merrell sandals are beyond comfortable and very practical but I think they look quite pretty and they come in a nice range of colours. The ones with the thin straps can be worn with a dress for a very casual evening. I wore mine to death on my honeymoon.

LoniceraJaponica · 02/04/2018 07:56

Those look comfy Jessie. I often see Teva sandals recommended on here as well.

MarthasGinYard · 02/04/2018 07:57

I had sketchers for first time last year after advice on here.

They were bloody amazing.

Those and Birkenstock Madrid's and a Gabor Lanzarote for me anyday.

And Never thought I'd say that Grin

ihatethecold · 02/04/2018 08:17

Can anyone link sketchers that look nice?
I have plantar facitis and I’m off to NY next week.
I usually wear new balance trainers or birkinstocks. But it’s gonna be chilly so sandals are out.

JessieMcJessie · 02/04/2018 08:20

Lonicera Tevas are similar structure but can look a bit shapeless and dowdy. Merrells, IMO, are more stylish.

FinallyHere · 02/04/2018 08:34

Another vote for teva

MrsHoneysHat · 02/04/2018 08:57

Look at the Isabella line of crocs. Not like crocs at all (i wouldnt wear the conventional ones) but really stylish and just as comfy. I've had loads of compliments on mine and my feet lasted round disneyworld in them.

Notfootball · 02/04/2018 09:13

Jeez those palmeiras are expensive. I bought my first pair in Menorca (avarca) for £25. I just bought two pairs last week online from TK Maxx for £17 each.

LoniceraJaponica · 02/04/2018 09:42

The Palmairas don't look like they offer any kind of support to me. They look like they would cause blisters and slip off. I must have funny feet.

Ohyesiam · 02/04/2018 10:45

How are Palmairas for very wide feet?

UncomfortableBadger · 02/04/2018 12:45

Decided to swing past TK Max earlier and managed to find a pair of Palmairas in my size for a bargainous £16 - seem comfy from initially trying them on, but will wear them round the house to break them in Smile

I wore Skechers in Greece last year - very comfortable but very slippy on marble paths (for the ancient ruins bit).

LoniceraJaponica · 02/04/2018 14:27

I think most shoes would be slippery on smooth marble.
