Holiday friendly shoes

What sort of shoes do you lot tend to take on holiday?

Planning ahead for our honeymoon later this year & I’m in need of a mixture of stylish (for dinner), super comfy (for exploring ancient ruins) and sand-friendly (for lolloping on the beach).

Does anybody rate FitFlops or Skechers? I have a love/hate relationship with Birkenstocks (first pair were great but the last pair completely shredded my feet)

Are these sketchers go walk or the sketchers flip flops?

LoniceraJaponica · 02/04/2018 15:07

I have Go Walks. If I am doing some serious sightseeing I prefer not to wear flip flops.

LockedOutOfMN · 02/04/2018 15:09

Paceyswife Skechers Go Walk.

I also found them slippery on a path coming down from a steep hill we hiked up last week to the ruins of a very old castle. We came down via a less pretty modern road in the end as I also have some mild knee issues and didn't want to risk it. Lots of other people were slipping too including those in hiking boots.

Well done in your purchase OP.

With regard to wide feet, due to the shape of the front part of the shoe, my sister (who has wide feet) found that it part cut into her sides of her foot.

I’ve got a previous incarnation of these which only have a touch of metallic in the forefoot straps, pale grey and buff leather with black sole; comfy and grippy

I can't wear Go Walks, they just don't suit my feet. Merrell all the way, IME.

Ooh. I love those Ecco sandals. Sadly, where I live we get very little sandal weather, and I have been wearing these for the last 5 years. They have shown no sign of wearing out yet, and they cost a grand total of £24 in Shoezone. They are incredibly comfortable and I have worn them round Florida theme parks, ancient sites in Crete, summer walks etc. IMO they are dressy enough for evening on holiday as well. I don't care if the style police think they are frumpy, cos I like them Grin

Another vote for Teva sandals - I now have a couple of pairs that are really comfy. They are also great because they're waterproof so you don't have to worry about them getting wet on the beach or puddles etc

I also had some very light Mary Jane shoes from Hotter that were bliss a couple of years ago. I got some more last year but had to get them to dig out some old stock from the previous year as the new 'improved' version wasn't as light or comfy. So hoping this year they have çhanged back to their super light version...

What are the Palmaira sandals like for people with narrow feet?

JessieMcJessie · 02/04/2018 17:19

I hope your Palmairas work for you OP. However personally I would not go for a flat leather sole over a moulded one that properly supports the foot, and I think that the semi-closed toe will get sweaty in the heat.

I've lived in fit flops for the last 8 years. As soon as it gets warm enough to go without socks they are what I wear out of work. Incredibly comfortable, I can wear them all day and walk for miles. Pig ugly but then so are my feet so I wouldn't look great no matter what and at least this way I'm comfy!

Notfootball · 02/04/2018 21:23

I have narrow feet and Avarcas/Palmeiras fit well. I can wear them all day but then I can wear Converse comfortably all day too and I know that a lot of people find them unsupportive.
