Can I wear (smart) trainers to a wedding?

I wear orthotics as my feet/knees are basically knackered. They really limit the footwear I can wear - trainers and flat boots. I'm going to a wedding soon and am stuck for what to wear without giving up my orthotics.

Any suggestions? Could I get away with a jumpsuit or knee length, unstructured dress and smart trainers? I'm late 40s so I'm not sure I can carry it off even if trainers might be just about acceptable.Confused

Plain leather trainers in a white, black, pastel or metallic would work if the rest of your outfit was fabulous. Great trousers and a beautiful top and jewellery.
I have a relative who wore walking boots to my wedding, that was a bit off.

ILoveDolly · 26/03/2018 22:18

Sorry cross post!

I’m completely in love with these trainers by Kate Spade and they come in different glitter colours too.

WhatTheFrock · 26/03/2018 22:22

Walking boots? I can't imagine they would even be comfortable. And so hot! Although I do know someone who would probably wear similar (in a 'I haven't a clue about clothes' sense rather than 'I'm making a fashion statement dontcha know')

Spirited - love the outfit but the heel is too high Sad

What about dr martens with a dress?

MachineBee · 26/03/2018 22:23

Try the FitFlop website. Really comfy with memory foam and proper arch support. Their sneakers are great but so are their sandals. I’m wearing the bugaloo under a bridesmaid dress 3 months after foot surgery. www.fitflop.com/uk/en/shop/womens-view-all-uk

Glad you decided on the trainers. If you feel it’s too casual, dress up a notch with the rest of the outfit. Fashion be damn!

ILoveDolly · 26/03/2018 22:26

Yeah I know what you mean about walking boots. Said relative is also famous for wearing gardening hat and bringing book to smart family events and reading it.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 26/03/2018 22:26

Well Serena Williams wore trainers to her own wedding, so yes, why not? Disclaimer: These are possibly very very expensive Grin

Wish I was cool enough to wear DMs!

Fitflops - unfortunately I am beyond arch support and need bespoke orthotics. You know you have really wonky feet when the podiatrist says your lack of ankle flexibility is really fascinating Grin

I also wear bespoke orthotics. I say no to trainers at a wedding. But I do understand the difficulty of finding shoes they will fit in.

Hellywelly10 · 26/03/2018 22:35

The metalic ones are quite smart. I love plain white but i think some older relatives may find them too casual. Just buy something youll wear again.

SnowiestMountain · 26/03/2018 22:41

I think the Geox that you have been looking at are perfect OP!

WhatTheFrock · 26/03/2018 22:41

I bet serena didn't have to pay for those!

Zintox, I'm interested in what you might wear? Any brands that you would recommend (generally, not just for weddings!) my orthotics are quite wide so I do struggle finding shoes to fit.

lakeshoreliving · 26/03/2018 22:42

I can't imagine an couple whose wedding is worth going to would expect you to wear shoes that caused you serious pain. People only look at the bride anyway!

DianaBlythe · 26/03/2018 22:50

I would care not one fig if you wore sparkly trainers to my wedding.

I’d be upset though if you wanted to and felt you couldn’t! Would want you happy, comfortable and able to enjoy yourself!

These are significantly reduced!

Ok trainers it is.

Wonderful choice! It's reminded me I need to buy new trainers for this year's wedding season. Anyway, some other options:

Superga www.superga.co.uk/womens-superga-metallics

Enjoy your comfy, yet very stylish, trainerclad feet Whatthe

LockedOutOfMN · 26/03/2018 22:53

Of course you can, OP. Enjoy!

Anlaf · 26/03/2018 22:53

Xpost with Diana! KG ones are really rather tremendous

wildone81 · 26/03/2018 22:56

Go for it! Can't imagine any bride/groom wanting a guest to be uncomfortable or in pain, and to be honest, their unlikely to even notice!

What about a suit, trainers, and a really pretty top...picture attracted to give you an idea Smile

I did trainers to my own wedding though, and have planned outfits for weddings I'm going to this year around flat shoes, so I'm possibly biased!

Camomila · 26/03/2018 23:05

I came on to say only for health reasons or if heavily pregnant, so go for it in your case.
I'd wear white or glittery converse and a tea dress and be fashiony

OR wear some uglish very medical looking ones and everyone will think 'she's hurt her foot' and maybe even be extra nice and offer you seats.

Leicesterpiggott · 26/03/2018 23:08

I wore silver Supergas to a wedding recently. Everyone commented how great they looked. I wore them with a gorgeous navy Finery maxi dress. They were super comfy Grin
