Buying bras without my dd there

She's currently in a 34B and has asked for new bras. She showed me how they are now too small but can't shop until next week. I could pick some for her to try but unsure what to try. The back is still okay but the cup isn't big enough. She's in these. I know she'll have to try but if I could buy a couple of sizes to try it would help. TIA.

I'm a 32B and pretty much all of mine are from Primark. Dirt cheap. If you pick up a few for her and they don't fit, you can get a refund, however this is obviously just on bras sold on their own. They won't refund bra+knicker sets for obvious hygiene reasons.

Get her to measure using the boob or bust calculator (google it) I’ll bet anything she’s not a 34

AlexanderHamilton · 25/03/2018 20:58

Is she about a size 14 or very broad backed (perhaps an athlete?)

If not then I bet she isn’t a 34 back. I agree to measure her actual back size (don’t add inches on)

LoniceraJaponica · 25/03/2018 21:01

Ditto, measuring her properly. I very much doubt she is a 34B.

What dress size is she?

Measure her under the bust and then over the bust. The underbust measurement is the band size, and the difference is the cup size.

YearOfYouRemember · 25/03/2018 21:31

She's wearing a 34B now and I just wanted to know is it just a case of trying a 34C or 34D as the cup went big enough or something else?

Ok. Just got her to measure and she did under the bust and across the breast. 32 and 33.5. She found 32 too tight.

YearOfYouRemember · 25/03/2018 21:36

She's fastening them on the loosest. Would they fit better if they were on the middle or tightest? I know, I'm clueless.

The 32 is probably too tight because the cup size is too small. The cup size on a 34B bra is not the same size as the cup on a 32B bra. If she goes down a band she needs to go up a cup size.

G5000 · 25/03/2018 22:04

32 B would indeed be too tight. 32D should work with those measurements, but if she finds 34B clearly too small, I would try 32DD as well.

G5000 · 25/03/2018 22:06

No sorry I misread your numbers, they only suggest a 32B indeed but then a 34B would definitely not be too small. Check out Boob or Bust calculator, that usually gives quite accurate result.

Belindabelle · 25/03/2018 22:10

When you get a new bra you should start to wear it in the loosest setting. The elastic in the band will stretch over time so move to the middle and then the tightest setting.

KirstenRaymonde · 25/03/2018 22:50

booborbust.com This calculator.

A 32 could be too tight if the cup is too small. A 32C and a 32F aren’t just the same cup on a different size band, the whole cup volume changes. See attached picture.

The issue is, like shoes, you can't really buy a bra for someone when they aren't there and expect adequate results. The measurements aren't necessarily consistent, even between different colours in the same range. I've been the same size in black in a certain range in a certain style for many years, but a different colour or style fits totally differently.

YearOfYouRemember · 26/03/2018 08:09

I wasn't trying to buy without her as I didn't want her to go another week minimum in a bra that didn't fit but I do take the point. She says her sports one, 32E,isn't too bad. She said that was too small after 4-6 weeks hence the 34B but I was told they can go back into a bra that had stopped fitting as their bodies change.

She does have quite a broad back. I asked her to fasten on the tightest this morning to see what happened but she forgot. She was told to start off in the middle. I think she's probably on the loosest as easier to fasten.

I can't use the boob or bust measure tool at the moment as she's not here.

So should I try 32C and 32D for her? She has a full bust and is definitely bigger than I was at her age and I was a 32DD at early 20's.

Thank you for all your help.

Black clothes are known to be smaller than the same item in a different colour.

If the 32E sports bra fits, go for that size
She needs to fasten on the loosest to start, then as the bra wears/loosens she can tighten it
It's probably feeling too tight because the cup is too small, but if the tape measure goes round her and measures 32, then a stretchy 32 bra band will work

Measure her at home

Thank you everyone. It might be better if she muddles through for the next week but she's not keen on being measured so I have to try and fit her and with all your help I have a good starting point. Thank you.

OP posts:
YearOfYouRemember · 26/03/2018 08:25

I should have said, she's not saynig it's too tight but that the cup I should too small. She has a bit of boob coming out at the side as well as the cup not covering her as it did at the start.

OP posts:
Ollivander84 · 26/03/2018 08:35

I would try the 32DD and 32E and see how she goes

My very slim Dgd was wearing 32B and went for professional measuring
and was 30F.
She mainly wears Sports bras anyway as she is sporty but also for comfort.

Furball · 26/03/2018 18:39

Sometimes the cups can steal from the band if they are not big enough, making you think it is too tight.

One way to test this is to put the bra on back to front so the cups are not in that equation - you should only be able to 'ping' the strap a couple of inches from the body - any more and it's too big

Many size 16 women are a back size 34.

I deffo recommend the way of measuring in the link in Anotherorginals post

YearOfYouRemember · 26/03/2018 18:52

Furball, I bought DD a soft full cup bra today but will get her to measure the leaning over way when she's back to see what she comes in at.

I think I'll remeasure me too as my bras are quite old now and I'm currently wearing 36GG.
