Buying bras without my dd there

YearOfYouRemember · 25/03/2018 20:36

She's currently in a 34B and has asked for new bras. She showed me how they are now too small but can't shop until next week. I could pick some for her to try but unsure what to try. The back is still okay but the cup isn't big enough. She's in these. I know she'll have to try but if I could buy a couple of sizes to try it would help. TIA.

Goodness me Furball!. No wonder so many of us wear the wrong size.

Dd has measured. Tight is 27/32 and snug is 29/35

@KirstenRaymonde thank you for your post and the picture. I was sure I'd replied. Apologies. I'm about to use your calculator now.

It suggest 30DD but I think she may have the same trouble as me. I measure as a 34 but need a 36 as I'm broad fat DD scoliosis and is broad of back so can't have anything too tight .

What ever you are around, you are around. So generally if you measure x around you are x around as the tape measure also measured around a broad back

What is the measure if you use this method

KirstenRaymonde · 27/03/2018 09:35

@YearOfYouRemember it’s really very helpful. There’s a lot of misunderstanding about how beautiful sizes work

KirstenRaymonde · 27/03/2018 09:35

Bra’s do need a bit of wearing in, the can be too tight to start with but stretch out in one or two wears.

YearOfYouRemember · 27/03/2018 10:02

I’m not sure furbsll as I can’t work it out

yearof - Measure round your self just where your bra would go, round your torso. That is your band size

Then - lean over from the waist so you are 90 degrees (like you would touch your toes - so your hanging loose then measure round what is hanging - sorry to be abit blunt about it

so for me it is 34, 42.....making me a 34 FF

If you tell me those two measurements I will translate it for you Smile

YearOfYouRemember · 27/03/2018 17:57

Thank you very much. Would you be able to translate DD,s for me as I'm about to serve dinner and I'll measure me in a bit?

. Tight is 27/32 and snug is 29/35

Having read the instructions properly I've realised I've measured dd wrong and mine come out at 36F. Explains why the 34C I got dd fits and I've chucked out today's bra as being tatty so tomorrow I will go bra shopping. Thanks all.

Head to bravisimo yearof if you can - they measure this way and will sort you out

YearOfYouRemember · 28/03/2018 07:31

I have been there once, Furball, but wouldn't go again. Dd being a pita so measuring in a shop it is. Bloody pest.

Furball · 28/03/2018 18:53

well if you go to the wrong shop you will get the wrong measure

so john lewis = Yes

M & S = Avoid

DontCallMeBaby · 28/03/2018 19:03

She could very well be an M&S 34 band though - their sizing is totally off but if you can find the right bra it can still fit perfectly well. DD and I wear the same band size - 32. Mine are Panache, H cup. I’m genuinely 32 inches round the rib cage, size 14-16 top. Hers are M&S, C cup. She’s maybe 27 inches round the rib cage, size 6.

I suspect if we did any proper measuring method we’d end up with a size for her that doesn’t exist - only it does, M&S make it, they just mislabel it!

YearOfYouRemember · 28/03/2018 19:09

JL fitted her for her first bra then the next month she needed a different size so I looked in M & S. I told the lady what she was in and the issue and she suggested a size to try. I bought it and took it home and it fitted perfectly. Yet some M&S fitters can't fit right when you're actually there!

Yesterday she wore a new bra from Sainsbury's that fit, 34C. I've told her how to do the booborbust measuring tonight so we'll see where we're at.

I tried on 36F as per booborbust measurements but needed 36GG in the end which is what I have been wearing. This thread has been great though as I have chucked out one bra that was last it's best and I will start replacing some others. I was rather gutted when BHS shut as I'd only recently discovered that did my size

True, DCMB. I was told last year "we can't stock all sizes madam" by an assistant in M&S. I don't think I'm that odd a size. I was left feeling very weird.

Me again. Dd has measured and it's given her 28FF but she says the bra I bought her in M&Co today in a 34C fits her best so far.

KatharinaRosalie · 28/03/2018 20:09

If she's been in 34B then yes sure 34C will be better. Try her in 28FF though.

YearOfYouRemember · 29/03/2018 14:21

I will do. I didn't think that she wouldn't need new bras as often as she does but we're lucky that I can afford them. We are going into town on an errand after school and there's a couple of shops we can try. Thank you.

Quite hard to get a 28 back on the high street. A lot start at 32. May have to buy online

YearOfYouRemember · 29/03/2018 18:51

Yes, I couldn't find any 28s today. There may have been one but I have new glasses on so not sure. It wasn't a FF I do know. I'm not a fan of on line shopping but I'll have to try and hopefully there will be easy returns.
