do they all turn orange & shiny over the day?
I'm trying a few (body shop atm)
I like it when it first goes on, but after a few hours I look like a polished brass door knob.

is it me? or have I just not yet found the right one.
so far tried: boots no 7, nivea, body shop

I like and use the Clinique BB cream, I don't turn orange but can a little shine on the forehead but I'm greasy of palate so turn shiny at the end of the day regardless but a quick swish of translucent powder usually gets it back under control.

LemonysSnicket · 21/03/2018 21:19

I use Korean BBS or the Clinique one and they don’t do this and I’m very pale. Many drugstore ones do though I’ve noticed.

brownelephant · 21/03/2018 21:22

I wonder if a cheap (ish) foundation would be better for me.

I agree with GreyHare. If you’re turning orange it means the B.B. cream is oxidising from reacting with the air so a thin layer of translucent powder will help.

My favourite is Urban Decay One and Done, although I haven’t tried it without powder tbh.

brownelephant · 21/03/2018 21:23

I'm pale, but with a caramel undertone. wrong (or right?) side of 40

You’ll have the same problem with a lot of foundations. Oxidisation is a common problem with both foundations and B.B. creams.

brownelephant · 21/03/2018 21:26

ideally I just want to put cream on in the morning and not faff about with powder...

I love the la roche possay one. But I use DW light in the winter as I find bb creams don't offer enough coverage.

Speedy85 · 21/03/2018 21:27

You could keep experimenting until you find one that doesn’t oxidise as much, but for me I just do a quick swipe if Charlotte Tilbury powder after foundation or B.B. cream and it lasts all day really well.

IJustLostTheGame · 21/03/2018 21:27

I use missha and avon.
I don't go orange but I do dust a bit of powder on

brownelephant · 21/03/2018 21:27

ok, thanks for explaining the oxidation thing. makes sense.

I use rimmel instaflawless, it's more of a tinted primer, been using it for few years now and it's better than more expensive brands I've tried.

TenThousandSpoons · 23/03/2018 21:50

I use Rimmel BB cream and don’t go orange or shiny...I don’t think 🤔😆

threeelephants · 23/03/2018 21:50

I use the olay one. I don't turn orange.

Heismyopendoor · 23/03/2018 21:55

Another for the Rimmel one, doesn’t go orange

TroubledLichen · 23/03/2018 21:56

Try Benefit Big Easy. It’s essentially a BB cream but provides a little bit more coverage. It goes on as a liquid but sets like you’ve used powder. I like a really a matt finish and don’t need to use anything else with it. It’s my go-to for when I don’t want a heavy foundation. Bit more expensive than what you’re currently using though.

brownelephant · 23/03/2018 21:58

thanks for the suggestions.
am also wondering if I should not use my normal spf moisturiser underneath?

BestestBrownies · 23/03/2018 21:59

At the risk of sounding really thick, what is the difference between a BB cream and a tinted moisturiser please?

I don't wear makeup but have been toying with the idea of a lightly tinted moisturiser to make me look a bit more alive. I think I have the same skin type as OP - white, pale, but with a yellow rather than blue tone.

Would greatly appreciate any tips/advice.

doodlyfiddly · 23/03/2018 22:02

Try the Garnier BB cream, I stockpile it in case they stop making it! (plus it's always on special offer). It's fab and my skin doesn't like foundation or anything heavy. I've recently starting mixing glow drops with it too (I'm mid-40s), which makes your skin look amazing. I put it over my normal spf moisturiser.

TroubledLichen · 23/03/2018 22:10

So a tinted moisturiser is exactly that- a moisturiser with a coloured tint and nothing more. A BB cream or beauty balm is a jack of all trades product that covers blemishes, smooths imperfections whilst moisturising/priming too. Tinted moisturisers are lightweight and will give you a natural dewy glow, BB creams give you more coverage.

You don’t usually need to moisturise or use primer with a BB cream and many contain sunscreen. However, you’ll need to reapply throughout the day to ensure adequate sun protection and as the sunscreen often isn’t broad spectrum if it’s sunnier than a typical U.K. grey day then I would use a facial sunscreen under the BB cream.

Hope that helps!

I use the bare minerals complexion rescue. I first tried it after a mumsnet trial. Its not cheap, £25ish a tube but I've just started my third (this morning) and have used it everyday for just over a year. It goes on as a liquid but drys as almost a powder.

It gives good coverage and lasts morning till bed. It has slight offset when I blow my nose (lots of allergies) but it's better than anything else i've tried.

I don't moisturise everyday before I use it, but do find if I have a leisurely morning i.e. on a weekend, moisturizing then waiting 15mins or so before applying gives a really nice cover and tops up my skins moisture for the rest of the week.

SukiTheDog · 23/03/2018 22:21

Pretty much (on me). I found Bobbi Brown to be like slutch in terms of blending. I thought I’d managed it and then halfway through the day discovered streaky bits that my blusher had clung to. In the end, I gave it away.

BestestBrownies · 23/03/2018 22:27

Thanks for the explanation Troubled. Much appreciated. I think tinted moisturiser is what I'm after then. Can anyone recommend a good one for pale white skin with a yellow undertone please?

BestestBrownies · 23/03/2018 22:38

OMG this is so confusing! There are CC creams too. What are they meant to do?!? And what are glow drops doodly?
