Bumps/spots on upper arms - how to get rid?

MushroomTree · 21/03/2018 09:41

I've got bumps/spots on my upper arms (strangely mostly on one arm and hardly any on the other).

How do I get rid of them? I've tried exfoliating with a glove every time I shower but it's making no difference. They've also gotten worse since having DD 10 months ago.

Summer is coming and I'd like to be able to get my arms out!

I think these are due to circulation issues (I’m not a doctor tho!!) - I use sanctuary salt scrub or warming sugar scrub and they work wonders on my arms! Not cheap but definitely worth the money, they are better than a glove in my opinion.

Wolfiefan · 21/03/2018 09:46

Keratosis pilaris? You can't get rid.
Soap free cleansers, moisturising and exfoliating may help.

AlishaMary · 21/03/2018 09:46

I had these for years and only noticed that they’d disappeared completely when I started using expensive shower gel instead of the usual £1 jobbies from the supermarket. A nice bottle of Molton Brown used in the same way as I’d used shower gel for years (ie with my hands) and my arms are as smooth as a babies bottom.

tiredmama1 · 21/03/2018 09:48

Eucerin 10% urea treatment cream cleared mine up with regular use.

Luckingfovely · 21/03/2018 09:57

Use actual, real soap - a bar - not shower gel - on them for one week, and see the difference. Lots of threads about the wonders of soap on here; getting rid of hose bumps is one of their benefits.

BagelGoesWalking · 21/03/2018 10:25

If it's KP, I've seen ppl recommend Lactic Acid (from the Ordinary) and something called Ameliorate or Amlactin (either or both names, I can't quite remember).

DailyMailcanfuckthefuckoff · 21/03/2018 10:33

If it's keratosis pilaris, after trying various things over the years, I find using a little of the St Ives Apricot Scrub makes a really big difference! I use it twice a week, and mine is almost completely gone.

Ducksarsehead · 21/03/2018 17:03

I agree its prob KP. I have it everywhere. Worst on upper arms and legs, but also on cheeks and forearms. It used to really bother me as a teenager. If I used the scrub gloves religiously and dry brushed and moisturised heavily there wad some difference.

Ive since used flexitol heel ointment with urea and its helped enormously. Ive now moved on to 40% urea cream from america used for very cracked heels and it is really clearing it up. I dont use much and not every day but this might be the first summer ever i will wear a vest top

MrsMoastyToasty · 21/03/2018 17:07

I have discovered that my KP has improved since I gave up foods containing gluten. It's not an instant cure though.

DevonBird234 · 21/03/2018 17:07

I have the same on my arms. My beautician recommended exfoliating everyday and then mosturising with any moisturiser which says “Firming” on the label. It doesn’t need to be expensive. There’s something in these moisturisers that help and it cleared mine up completely in 2 weeks!

MushroomTree · 21/03/2018 17:18

Lots of tips here. I'll give them a go and report back!

If it's any consolation this tends to go with age, I used to have it but somewhere over the years it's disappeared of it's own accord. Same with DS1 who had it very badly until a couple of years ago

Timefortea99 · 21/03/2018 22:58

Like Goose said, it goes with age. Sun on arms improves it. When I had it the only time I didn’t,t have it was when I went on holiday to Mauritius. Not sure why, it completely disappeared- I kept stroking my arms. Twas a miracle. Came back within days of coming home.

positivepineapple · 21/03/2018 23:05

I had this for years, I now use L'occitanè Almond oil and it's completely gone. Plus it smells amazing!

Saisong · 21/03/2018 23:13

My DD uses Ameliorate (get it from m&s) on her arms and legs. And Child's Farm baby moisturiser on her face (reacts to anything else)

Pangur2 · 21/03/2018 23:23

Paula's Choice does a body spray for KP that's really good. Amlactin also makes a big difference.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 21/03/2018 23:24

KP, as others have said. Mine have died down a bit since switching to bar soap. Poor DS2 (12) has it bad, his arms feel so rough I couldn’t probably exfoliate MY KP off with HIS KP! Grin

CurlyhairedAssassin · 21/03/2018 23:26

Those with KP I was wondering, do you suffer with blackheads? On your face, I mean? I do and I was wondering if the two are connected. Seems to be to do with the way dead skin cells are replaced....

Goosegrass · 21/03/2018 23:36

Korean washcloths. You soak in the bath for half an hour then scrub the dead skin off. Arms like silk.

BettyBaggins · 21/03/2018 23:41

If they arent kp, google images, I noticed that my bumps on upper arms disappeared when I cut out dairy.

sycamore54321 · 21/03/2018 23:42

Another vote for switching shower gel for traditional bar soap. Mine cleared up amazingly. Also, wash your arms and body only after you have rinsed out shampoo and conditioner, otherwise that residue can remain on your skin.

Mustang27 · 21/03/2018 23:44

What @MrsMoastyToasty it's linked to my coeliac and if I gluten myself they flare up again.

Ski40 · 21/03/2018 23:47

I had until until my mid thirties, then it just went.
I hear eating oily fish and other omega 3 rich foods helps a lot.
Cocoa butter used to help me when I had it.

Also the sun- within safe limits.

CakerBaker · 21/03/2018 23:53

The Ameliorate lotion that was in the M&S advent calendar is amazing for this, and for scaly/sore shins. It’s the only thing in two years that I’ll be buying again. It’s briliant.

ItsalmostSummer · 21/03/2018 23:55

Reaction to gluten. Yep. Take it out your diet and see.
