The Ordinary is certainly that.

So I drank the Kool-Aid, believed the hype and invested in a number of The Ordinary products. And my foundation pills every time I apply it and my skin is not only not improved, but more congested! Is there anyone else who’s distinctly unimpressed with this range?

The prices look great until you realise they're all 30ml! Actually far more expensive than a lot of luxury brands for the amount you get.

That's just not true.

omBreROSE · 15/03/2018 17:07

I’ve tried a few bits.
Superficially all the bits are pretty nice. I can’t understand why the Buffett is so sticky though? Anyway, l’ve yet to try my lactic acid 5%- that will probably be useful.
I got nervous about the Argireline and caffeine when they were pulled from the EU market ( to reformulate)
Th NMF is good. The Squalene too. The Rosehip is great value and better than some more expensive lines.
However, l just went off it! Grin
Primarily when Brandon stared acting erratically. It made me question myself, my skincare and my attitude to anti aging ( lm 46)
I started a thread during my ponderings...
l don’t know?
A chemical exfoliating product is probably very useful... the rest?
I think as most of it can’t penetrate deep enough, l just gave up!
I’m using a very Moisturizing cream and a fake tan every other day...
for now Wink

Does anyone here like it? I have bought some and I am using it, I like it so far but it is the first proper skin care I have used other than a couple of hot cloth cleansers so I have no frame of reference.

Freetodowhatiwant · 15/03/2018 17:51

I’ve used a few things. Didn’t notice any difference with Buffet or Matrixyl but the caffeine solution for under the eyes has been a miracle worker for me. I now can’t do without it. I used to have really puffy eyes and seriously the puffiness has completely gone.

I’m also currently using the Resverstrol and the retinoid in squalane and I have seen good results too.

PerfumeIsAMessage · 15/03/2018 17:58

God yes, slimey Buffet. I think it's the texture of a lot of the things that's offputting. Buffet is slimey, Retinoid is like slopping emulsion paint on your face, and don't start me on the "crunchy" vit C.

I might re-dip into Korean. Need to dig out old threads and read from scratch.

velourvoyageur · 15/03/2018 18:01

I was warned off acids by someone with a recent PhD in Chemistry, can't remember her explanation but basically the gist was that acids damage your new skin as well as what's currently visible...she said if you need to use anything besides UV protection, stick to Vit E.
I don't know the science behind it so won't take her word as gospel but it does make sense to my untrained ears!

VioletteValentia · 15/03/2018 18:05

I was considering The Ordinary. I’m not sure now.

safetyzone · 15/03/2018 18:14

The point of The Ordinary is that they sell products with actives (scientifically proven ones, not made up ones in some brands) in cheap prices. I see a lot of people on here/FB groups where they have no idea about what the products do, buy half the shop and either 1. mess up the skin completely by using too much or 2. claim there is no change to the skin because they are using the wrong things for their skin.

Before you either buy the products or slag them off, it's important to do some research on what you're putting onto your skin. Just relying on internet people telling you what to do doesn't really work.

JMAngel1 · 15/03/2018 19:41

My skin has never looked better and I had awful skin before using the ordinary, ageing crepey plus rosacea and acne - nice!
The HA B5 is the perfect moisturiser - fills fine lines and tightens
Niacinamide has reduced my oiliness incredibly
Sal 2% stops spot in its tracks in 1 night
Granactive retinoid has retexturised my acne scarring
The big drumroll though for Alpha Lipoic Acid - the first time I used it, my skin felt like real skin fkr the first time in 34 years - jt always felt scaly, oily, rubbery almkst. Now it feels just kije the skin on my neck - thrilled thrilled with TO.
I was no skincare virgin - tried high end Skinceuticals, Sunday Rikey, Epionce etc befkre - but TO beats them all hands down for me.

JMAngel1 · 15/03/2018 19:42

oooh also caffeine eye serum is incredible for puffiness.

Lottapianos · 15/03/2018 19:45

'Before you either buy the products or slag them off, it's important to do some research on what you're putting onto your skin'

Absolutely right. If you have a stockist near you, the staff are very helpful and were not at all pushy when I went in. You should only be using a few products that are suited to your skin, not a ton of random products

VioletteValentia · 15/03/2018 19:51

Are any of you knowledgable about The Ordinary? What products would you recommend for dry skin?

fitflopqueen · 15/03/2018 19:58

I was using Neals Yard facial rose oil and am using the The Ordinary rose oil, no difference and half the price so would buy again.
Got the Buffet too, not impressed
Got a moisturiser - again not impressed and back on Aldi caviar day creme.
Wouldn't go to seek it out but would get the rose oil again if passing.

NutButterNutter · 15/03/2018 20:09

Hmm depends on what product.
The foundation just sits on my skin weirdly or pills, but either way NOT a good look.
The acids and retinol are doing good things, though, and the squalane is brill when my skin is being crazy.
I'm a bit of a product floozy and have different things for what my skin's up to.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 15/03/2018 20:10

Hang on FitFlop aren't those different things?

Rose oil is different from rosehip oil. The Ordinary does rosehip, and NY have a rose oil.

You might be comparing apples and oranges here.

Lottapianos · 15/03/2018 20:32

Violette, I have dry skin. I use Buffet on bare, clean skin in the morning and same for Hyaluronic Acid at night. You could use one of them both morning and night. After that, I use the Superdrug Simply Pure serum, followed by either Squalane or Marula oil at night. I'm v happy with my products

How do you cleanse and which moisturizer do you use?

Kitsharrington · 15/03/2018 20:54

Wish I’d never heard of it! Have spent a fortune on facials trying to right the wrongs it did to my skin. The only thing I’ve continued to use is the plain old rose hip oil.

SomewhereontheM6 · 15/03/2018 21:19

I had a bit of a mis spent youth.
Applying Buffet in the morning reminds me of wiping my face after a blokes seen one too many porn films, if you catch my drift.Blush

VioletteValentia · 15/03/2018 21:21

Lottapianos I’m currently using a thalgo cleansing bar, Superdrug radiant toner and an origins moisturiser. Thanks for the recommendations

Lottapianos · 15/03/2018 21:57

You're welcome Violette😃 just making sure there were no cleansing wipes or micellar water involved! Grin any skincare you buy will be a waste of time if you're not cleaning your skin thoroughly

VioletteValentia · 15/03/2018 22:01

I sometimes use a cleansing wipe before my thalgo wash, is that bad? Shock

Ohyesiam · 15/03/2018 22:13

Since I discovered TO I’ve had people ask me if I’ve had work done, if I’ve lost weight, if I’ve had a peel. And I didn’t have big problems before, just normal aging and some sun damage.
But my skin is glowing, sun damage reduced by 60%, tighter and smoother. Maybe you lot just aren’t old enough?Wink

MyRelationshipIsWeird · 15/03/2018 22:16

I used a vitamin c cream earlier and just afterward my 11 yo dd walked in and said “Mummy why are you so beautiful?” I’m going to keep using it Grin

babyinthacorner · 15/03/2018 22:22

Following. I've spent a fortune on my skin over the years so this range really appeals. Just bought Buffet and the HA serum. I have hormonal acne that can get pretty nasty and am liking the serums so far. But I'm at the start of my cycle - the calmest phase, skin-wise so can't say for sure. The 2% retinol did nothing for me.
I also bought January Labs moisturiser which is LOVELY.

Lottapianos · 15/03/2018 22:24

They're not ideal Violetta, but next to useless if you're using them alone. At least you're doing a proper cleanse as well
