Dressing "young"

Hi, I'm going out for a work related drink on Thu night. The eldest of my prospective colleagues is 26, I'm 44.

All are coming from their office, so no jeans.

What can I wear to look young and blend in? Colour or all black?

Ooo nice! Maybe some nice high heels and a necklace?

Depends on what the dress code is like at your work but I'd probably go for some tapered leg trousers with some stiletto heals or maybe a pencil skirt if it's a bit more dressy.

I'm guessing the young 'uns (cough) will be trousers.

I would suggest wide leg trousers weren't "dressing young" unless they were very wide with a tight fitting top. Deffo no boot cut type trousers.

I'm 28 and wear wide leg trousers! I'd maybe add a jacket but it might be too much?

I like tunic tops with leggings and classy shoes myself. Apricot or joe brown have nice stuff that dresses you younger without being mutton dressed as lamb. Got a gorgeous burgundy belted tunic that looks great with black leggings and a heeled boot.

I'd go for wide legged trousers, and tight fitting top tucked in. And nice earrings.

Honestly, that top with wide leg trousers is what I'd wear to work with heeled boots (I'm 21).
I go out in some high waisted jeans and a nice top with higher heels.

I'm a little older than you.
When in doubt I tend to stick to black. Something along these lines, perhaps with shoe boots, a coloured bag and silver accessories. It's not young but it's not frumpy either.

I’m with Mulberrysilk in terms of what i would wear. Probably with some statement shoes - I have red suede heels or some bright blue ones. I tend to have a quick look
at TopShop for ideas of what’s currently on trend and adapt for my age! It also depends where you are, in a London I don’t find many people are super dressy on nights out?

Agree with above. Black and stylish. I find the top a bit frumpy ...just the colour tbh.

I wouldn't wear that T-shirt to a night out and I'm 42. I would wear a smart top and trousers or a skirt with tights and boots.

I think you need to just be comfortable rather than try too hard. They are work colleagues. They know who you are and have invited you for you, not for your clothes.

I’m afraid I really don’t like that top. I think it would age anyone.

Totally depends on where you are and what type of venue. Why dress young though? a lot of people in their twenties dress horribly, and only carry it off well because of their youth.

You can't go wrong with a white shirt (cotton or silk) half tucked, jeans or any trousers really, or leather trousers, boots, red lips and some jewellery. Or you can replace the shirt with a lacy silk camisole and and blazer.

I don't love the top. I also don't like trousers for work though! I only wear skirts or dresses (I'm 26). I definitely think all black is very 👌🏻 especially if a nice pair of heels are included

I'm 41. On nights out with work I've worn a short dress with opaque black tights & slouchy heeled knee boots (it was cold!!).

I work with colleagues from teens to 60s, got some nice compliments.

My sister (39) works in an office, she often wears skinny black jeans with sexy tops & heels to drinks.

I would wear it with skinny trousers but not anything black - which is just a cop out style-wise IMHO. So either skinny trousers in grey/khaki/burgundy...? Or if not trousers, what about a tube skirt (same colours as above), tights & ankle boots?

Skinny jeans and a nice top. Sorry but that one is really frumpy. You're only 44 not 84!
