Having the chutzpah to cut your hair short is brave and therefore the antithesis of what is rudely dismissed as mummish

All this talk of I want to go shorter but I'm afraid it's a mum cut.

Argh.

I'm in my late forties with hair 3 inches past my shoulders and I want to go short but my teenage daughter is begging me not to.

Maggie gyllenhaal is the only sleb I can think of with a similar philtrum. And she is younger than I am.

I don't think short hair accentuates the distance between her nose and lip.

I have my hair in a pixie cut and i have done most of my life. My hair is fine and very straight and I have a long narrow face. If I have my hair long it just makes my face look even longer (think Red Rum). Having it really short with a side parting and fringe and lots of layers so I can make it spiky draws attention to my cheekbones and is far more flattering to me. I don’t care whether people think it’s mumsie because it suits me.

Good thread. I googled long pixie cut, I’m doing this. 40, shoulder length bob but thick as fuck hair. dare I?

I have very short hair and spend literally no time styling it. Long hair is a lot of effort when you can just wash and blast it with a hairdryer and be done with it.

It's short but it's long ! My hair is thick but I could dry it more thoroughly when there was less of it.

Ignore your daughter and go for a shirt style.
I have just had my hair cut into a graduated bob and I am very pleased with it, I always feel more styles when it's short as when it's long I just tie it back.
So many people have long hair now it's nice to be different.

I had long hair for decades. Very thick long hair that grew like a weed. I look back on photos and it invariably looked a mess. Had it chopped off about five years ago and love it short. So much more versatile. I get so many more compliments

I had a pixie cut when the kids were babies as it was just so easy to maintain - I don’t think it was mumsy but maybe i was deluded! Have grown it out now as fancied longer hair while I’m still just about young enough

Show DD that you can go ahead and do what you like even if the people you love aren't keen. Own your own style..

This is mine. Doesn't show the back which is v short and razored at the nape. I love my short hair. I get so many compliments and it takes no time to do in the morning either.

Meant to say as well that dh says he doesn't like short hair, I had short hair when we met, but whatever 🙄 Anyway, I know my hair looks good short and it suits me, so his opinion is not required.

I wear my hair short to help me look younger than all the women who want to look like Liz Hurley. I often hear ‘I like your hair but my husband doesn’t like short hair’. I wear what I like not what my husband thinks is appropriate.

I love it but don’t think I am styling it properly (mainly because I just dry it and leave it however it sits)

Skirt hair is far trendier than long or mid length if you choose the right style.
It's sassy and in a fab colour even better.

Hungrydieter my face is round with a nice double chin (even when I'm not overweight) and I'm at least 3 stone overweight. Keep it longer at the front with lots of textured layers and you can't go wrong.
