Budget wedding guest outfit.

I'm going to a wedding in March and still haven't sorted out what I'm going to wear.
It's a very small wedding, no particular dress code but I would like to look suitably smart and fabulous. I have a really small budget, and can't afford to buy a 'wedding outfit' that I won't wear again.
I'm 48, 5'7, size 12 top and hips, size 14 waist and have a tendency to look pregnant!
I have a couple of dresses already that could potentially work, but both are sleeveless, patterned, summer weight fabric. I'm struggling to find something that could go over the top (I'd quite like a comfy cardi Blush ) but obviously that's not going to look very smart. Equally, I don't want to look as though I'm going to a formal interview.
One dress is pinks/oranges, the other green and white.
Any suggestions gratefully received Grin

The dresses are both wrap style, btw!

How about a shrug? If this weather carries on, a fur one! (Fake of course)

OlennasWimple · 27/02/2018 15:03

Have you got shoes, bag etc to go with these dresses?

LilacClouds · 27/02/2018 16:56

What is your budget? Will look for things under that.

SpiritedLondon · 27/02/2018 17:46

Have you looked on eBay? I’ve had great success buying occasion wear for very low prices - I’ve recently bought a LK Bennett silk dress for around £11 and a Fenn Wright Manson silk dress for a similar price - both of them very wedding suitable. It obviously helps if you know the sizing of particular brands but if you focus your attention on more premium brands ( Hobbs , Whistles etc) then it becomes worthwhile to get them tailored as the fabric is usually nice quality. Re selling is obviously easier if they prove completely unsuitable.

HowManyMoreTimes · 28/02/2018 08:22

Sorry for the delay, thanks for your replies!
I have various shoes and bags and jewellery, so not too bothered about those.
The problem with eBay is that I don't know my size in any decent shops or makes now as I've barely bought anything since DC arrived. Youngest is now in school so trying to start again style wise.
Budget for something which made me look great, but could also be worn again (most important bit!) is £80 max.

I should probably add that black and pastel colours drain me without a brighter tone near my face, silver rather than gold, and I have blue eyes, so wear a lot of blues, pinks and purples.

Oh well, with a budget of £80 you have lots of choice!

Oasis do sone lovely quality dresses. Will have a look later.

HowManyMoreTimes · 28/02/2018 09:29

Thanks Lilac, just to clarify-that's top budget, and would need to be something I can wear easily day to day, dress up or down, not just for the wedding. I don't get out enough Grin
It doesn't have to be a dress, I have the dresses I mentioned in the op which need accessorising. I'm also open to separates which may be more flexible after the day.

If I were you I'd go to John Lews, House of Frazer or Debehams and ask for some advice. They will have lots of choice

UmSrsly · 28/02/2018 09:37

OP have you looked at House of Fraser online? They've got loads occasion wear in the sale.

HowManyMoreTimes · 28/02/2018 09:58

I actually wasted an entire morning with the personal shopper in Debenhams!
I'll have a look at the other websites mentioned, thanks.
Best option budget-wise for me would be to find some sort of jacket or cardigan (?) that would work with the dresses I have, but could also be worn again over jeans or something.

Can you post pics of your two dresses? I think a jacket would be good but depending on the dress and accessories, a cardigan could work too. More of a shrug or a short length cardigan than an actual hip length cardigan though, longer/hip length cardigans tend to look frumpy with dresses.

CuckooCuckooClock · 28/02/2018 11:46

How about a little boucle jacket that matches your dress?
Mango and Zara usually have nice ones. I've got a couple and they look good with jeans too. Will try and find one for you.

CuckooCuckooClock · 28/02/2018 11:58

This is a bargain (might get it myself - must stay off style and beauty)

I meant to link to the strawberry one. But obv depends on your dresses.

Tryingtogetitright · 28/02/2018 12:03

Might be worth a rummage in TKMaxx?

I would suggest looking at the Lindy Bop site!! They have some beautiful cheap dresses. Get a petticoat and you're set!

They are VERY flattering!

HowManyMoreTimes · 28/02/2018 20:38

I do like those jackets, but not sure if they would work.
Here are pics of 3 possible dresses-not 100% sure of any of them, tbh, just thinking it would be cheaper to accessorise than to start again.
God I miss my gorgeous 'go to' trouser suit that I can't squeeze in to anymore

Is the last one pink and black or pink and navy? That could be ok with a black/navy jacket or cardigan.

LadyB49 · 28/02/2018 20:56

W.hat about a pashmina?

Hellywelly10 · 28/02/2018 21:10

2nd tk max for a nice coat or jacket to wear over one of the dresses. Like the mango jacket especially in raspberry (might get it myself). They have some nice slips in primark.

Roystonv · 28/02/2018 21:18

Not one too floaty for winter but other two very suitable.

HowManyMoreTimes · 28/02/2018 22:03

The 3rd one is pink and black, but black on it's own isn't great on me. Unfortunately it's the wrong colour for the lovely pink jacket, as it's more of a salmon pink.
Is there anywhere that does nice quality cardigans that are fitted? I find most I've seen are straight cut and look really boxy on me, adding to my already full enough middle-aged spread!
Thanks for all the suggestions, it's so long since I've shopped anywhere but Sainsbury's, I really am clueless!
