Hooded eyes, what are the options?

DarkBlueEyes · 25/02/2018 09:09

I've got to the stage where I can't bear to look in the mirror. My eyelids are heading south and on my right eye it's sitting on my eyelashes and you can't see my lower eyelid at all. I think it's beyond Botox and probably I should consider blepharoplasty. Are there any other options? If I go down this route how to find a good surgeon? Surrey/London. Would appreciate any help or advice especially if you've had it done. And any recommendations fir surgeons to look at too. Wink

Surgery.

If it's affecting your vision you may be able to get it done on the NHS but you won't have much choice of who does it.

If you want to have it done privately my advice is always the same; look at the websites of the top private hospitals. In London that is the King Edward V11, and Lister Chelsea. Look for a plastic surgeon not a cosmetic surgeon. Don't go to a 'beauty clinic' or a cosmetic clinic unless the person doing it is a plastic surgeon. Have consultations and compare what they say.

Nestofvipers · 25/02/2018 11:37

It’s difficult to say from your post, but it sounds as if as well as blepharoplasty you might benefit from ptosis surgery to correct your drooping right eyelid. A good surgeon should be able to advise you of the effects of alternatives to surgery eg Botox and whether this would be a good alternative.

I’d recommend seeing an oculoplastic surgeon who is a member of BOPSS rather than a plastic surgeon. Have a look at the following: Raman Malhotra, Naresh Joshi, Susana Morley and Richard Collin.

If you’d benefit from it, it’s worth doing, but isn’t cheap. If done well, people shouldn’t be able to tell you’ve had it done. People will notice you look more awake/brighter and will say you look “well”, but they won’t be able to tell why or work out what’s different about you.

Thank you so much both of you that is so helpful.

Can I ask how long the operation takes, what's involved and the recovery time? I'm guessing it's not that painful, but obviously it's quite a precise operation, hence a general anaesthetic?

lovemylover · 26/02/2018 09:19

If its just your upper eyelid it can be done under local anasthaetic
NHS will usually do it if it affects your vision

halfwitpicker · 26/02/2018 13:07

Thanks, love my lover

lovemylover · 27/02/2018 01:47

You don't need a GA for upper eyelids.

AHedgehogCanNeverBeBuggered · 27/02/2018 01:57

Have you tried this?

I don't have hooded eyes but have heard this is pretty good

Fosterdog123 · 27/02/2018 06:52

You don't need to spend £25 on eyelid tape. You can get it for a couple of quid. Here's my thread on it www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/3102254-Look-at-the-difference-eyelid-tape-makes

Eyelid surgery is done under local and costs c£3k.

There's also plasma treatment but it has very mixed reviews and lots of people saying steer well clear www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/2545675-plexr-eye-treatment

DarkBlueEyes · 27/02/2018 09:53

Thank you all. I've looked up some surgeons on the Tatler site. I'm going to contact Richard Caesar and Naresh Joshi. Local anaesthetic is quite doable I hope! Will also explore the eye tape, thank you.

Stephanie Lange does some ace hooded eye makeup tutorials - also note some of the worlds most beautiful women have hooded eyes (Jennifer Lawrence, Catherine zeta jones, Cindy Crawford to name a few)

Go on eBay and buy some double eye lid stickers you get loads in a pack for about £3. When they arrive you will wonder what the hell they are. Practise sticking them on, peel them off gently then they don't flip up at the ends. Practise holding your overhanging bit up and sticking the sticker on. You won't get it at first and you'll think they are stupid. Please don't be deterred! Practise again and then when you do get it in the right place you will go OMG and wonder how you ever lived without them.
I wear them every single day. No one knows except my closest friends. No one need know either.... I would post before and after photos but I'm not sure how to do photos. My eyelids are as you describe before my little magic stickers...... Get some! Life changing for about £3 and you get about 240 pairs on little sheets. If they come with a tool to put them on wang this in the bin and use your fingers and a magnifying mirror. Practise practise practise with them. Good luck my friend.

cherrytree63 · 27/02/2018 10:22

Can you still blink with the stickers on?

cheeseandbiscuitsplease · 27/02/2018 11:18

The stickers go on the crease of your baggy old eye socket,
DO NOT stick them OVER your ACTUAL 👀 EYEBALLS.
If anyone cares to send me details on how to post photos I will do a before and after sticker post.
Currently in bed recovering from flu and so will give me something to do. Grin

cheeseandbiscuitsplease · 27/02/2018 11:20

Cherry tree

Yes blinking is not a problem, the only thing I don’t do in my stickers is swim, scuba dive, free styling diving or Atlantic swim challenges.
I do all the above when I’m sticker-less. Wink

👏 good job Foster Dog.
Wonder what the OP will make of them?

Loonoon · 27/02/2018 12:16

I have very saggy eyelids and have them lifted with regular mini doses of Botox. It really opens up my eyes without freezing my face. Admittedly the doctor who administers it says such good results are unusual, but it might be worth a go before considering surgery.

cheeseandbiscuitsplease · 27/02/2018 13:10

I had no idea eyelids could be lifted with Botox - what WONDERFUL newsGrin
I’ve booked last week to meet for my first Botox consultation next Wednesday (dives from sick bed and skips round room in husbands socks)

Wellhellothere1 · 27/02/2018 13:11

I got surgery for hooded eyelids 5 weeks ago and it's been amazing! Done under local, stitched up and back in a week to get the stitches out. I stayed at home for the first week as my eyes looked awful but once I got the stitches out you really wouldn't know I had surgery as the scar sits in the natural crease of your eyelid. I'm 43 but I felt my eyes were only going to get worse so decided to just go for it. I'm in Scotland so no pint giving you recommendations. It only cost me around £1000 but I think the place I went to (BMI group) seems to be a but cheaper than other hospitals.
My bruising was quite bad afterwards but I managed to cover it ok.

starbrightnight · 27/02/2018 13:22

I think hooded eyelids are often a very attractive feature. Kate Moss has them and so does Helen Mirren. Also Charlotte Rampling has seriously hooded eyelids yet it was her eyes that made her so stunning in her youth IMO.

Loonoon · 27/02/2018 13:41

Cheeseandbiscuitsplease. It lifts the brow which in turn lifts the eyelid below and has the added advantage of giving a very nice arched brow. It looks great and I sometimes sit smugly smiling to myself when people say Botox always fake (including my own DM).

lina38 · 27/02/2018 13:45

I second the hooded eye tape! I buy the cheap Ines too. They're amazing!
