Just spent a bloody fortune on supplements after watching Trinny!

Have just watched a live Trinny video with the owner of Victoria Health. It was all about the menopause. It ended with me dropping >£100 on supplements 😬 One for mood and anxiety, one for hot flushes, one for sleep, one for thinning hair and one for skin. I hate taking tablets but I'm going to force myself to take these. I need a kick up the bum and some help in feeling better about me/menopause symptoms/life in general. Fingers crossed hey! Will report back in a couple of weeks.

I saw Trinny a few months ago IRL and she looked fantastic, glowing skin and beautiful hair.

Bloomed · 20/02/2018 23:36

Off topic but how is it best to get hormones tested? I think my hormones have just fallen off a cliff but my gp won't test.

Fosterdog123 · 21/02/2018 17:16

Somewhere on that Trinny video, she does actually mention that she got a hormone test done. She doesn't say where or who by but she does say it cost her £600. She's very responsive to messages, so you could ask if google is throwing up a blank.

Probably a private endocrinologist, bloomed

Well my parcel finally arrived. The magnolia is missing because the manufacturer is having issues with an ingredient, so that's to follow in a couple of weeks. I've also decided to send the biotin back. No way will I risk anything that has even the slightest chance of causing acne. I've battled with my skin for years and it's only recently settled down. So I started the hylauronic acid potion this morning, which is just one spoonful of a not too awful tasting liquid. I expect to wake up looking 25...... I'm now drinking my sleep aid stuff, which is powder you dissolve. It's a bit gaggy but I'm knocking it back. I'm hoping for 10 hours straight tonight and will demand a refund if I don't get it.

Oh and it's day one of the sage supplements for hot flushes. I'm bloody sick of these 'tropical moments' so fingers crossed that this voodoo witchcraft and hubble bubble sourcery works 🙏🏻

Nope wouldn't take any advice from her she looks like an ad for plastic surgery gone wrong pedals over expensive make up and seems to have no bones about charging gullible people £££ for this half baked wisdom

SpringHen · 23/02/2018 21:39

I took biotin for a bit....it doesn't just thicken the hair on your head!!! Now I need laser on my face!

MaxWeber · 23/02/2018 21:40

I always assumed that Trinny's energy was down to a truckload of toot.

Fosterdog123 · 23/02/2018 21:42

Mercury - I'm not taking advice from her. I may have mentioned that a time or 2.....

Sorry she just really winds me up with her bloody expensive crappy make up popping up on my Facebook

SimonBridges · 23/02/2018 21:51

As an aside my family business used to make and sell biotin - for horses.

Fosterdog123 · 23/02/2018 22:20

Mercury - I can't bear all the shit either and her crappy make up range (that will go bump within 18 months). The VH guy was pretty credible though.

Grin MaxWebber
Hopefully the OP has had a hot flush free night!

Fosterdog123 · 20/03/2018 07:38

Well it's been about 3 weeks now, so I thought I'd do a quick update.

Hylauronic acid - no discernible difference and won't purchase again.

Biotin - have sent back for a refund. Don't want to risk spots reappearing!

Sage - took a couple of weeks to kick in but have reduced my hot flushes massively. Have gone from a flush at least every hour to about 5 a day.

Magnolia rholiola - only just started so can't comment yet.

Fosterdog123 · 20/03/2018 07:41

Oh and the cherry for sleep tastes awful, so I'm not using it much, so can't comment on that really either.

Interestingly out of all of those you're taking the one that is generally recommended as working is the one you've sent back!

I take:

Multivitamin
extra vitamin D and calcium at this time of year
evening primrose oil
biotin
silica
turmeric

I'm sure there are others that may or may not be beneficial but I already feel like I'm consuming half a dispensary. Its very difficult to get definitive information about what helps and what doesn't.

Upperwallop · 20/03/2018 08:17

Someone on another thread told me that biotin can be implicated in acne. Having suffered from spots for many years, it's not something I want to risk.

omBreROSE · 20/03/2018 10:51

Isn’t magnesium supposed to be vital during peri/ menopause?

ReluctantlyRedundant101 · 20/03/2018 11:51

I’ve been taking magnesium omBre can’t say I’ve noticed much difference

Tralalee · 20/03/2018 11:54

I take the vogel menopause supplements and drink gallons of water. I look well a d feel well.

omBreROSE · 20/03/2018 12:07

Oh really reluctantly - what a shame. Do you take anything else instead? :)

omBreROSE · 20/03/2018 12:08

Tra - l heard those are good :)

NotAPenguin · 20/03/2018 13:12

I have been taking Sage for hot flushes and it definitely works for me, if i don't take them for a few days the flushes and are back but barely feel any whilst taking it. I don't think it's a placebo effect, I am a pretty sceptical person.

I have been to see my GP with the intention of getting HRT but when I described by symptoms, just moderate hot flushes mainly in the evening and night, she thought that I should hold off taking it. The Sage is very expensive, £25 for a month's supply, and actually feel quite embarrassed to be paying that and would hesitate to tell my real life friends - but i am frugal in lots of other ways so whilst it's working I'm planning to carry on.

omBreROSE · 20/03/2018 13:25

Penguin l know what you mean - £25 seems expensive, but it would be dreadful to be crippled with the flashes constantly.
I think ld think of it as an expensive prescription charge! Wink
