How old is too old for pastel hair

I love the new pastel hair colours. I have long hair which is blonde and, according to my hair dresser it wouldn’t be too difficult for me to go for one of the colours in the picture. But I’m 45, I like to think a fairly sprightly 45 yr old, but 45 all the same. Will I end up looking like mutton dressed as lamb?

No such thing as too old!

amymel2016 · 15/02/2018 19:55

Totally agree with the above, you're never too old! Go for it!

selftitledalbum · 15/02/2018 19:56

45 is too old I think

thefudgeling · 15/02/2018 19:56

Never. Do it!

Sarsparella · 15/02/2018 19:57

Never too old, I love those colours - do it :) anyone who thinks hair colour has an age limit is boring!

SparklyMagpie · 15/02/2018 19:57

It's not too old at all I'M! G

Go for it!!

landoflostcontent · 15/02/2018 19:58

I'm 68. My grandchildren egged me on. No one batted an eyelid Grin

LoveMyLittleSuperhero · 15/02/2018 20:02

I have a regular customer where I work, wonderful woman, died her hair lilac and pastel pink for her 80th birthday. Looks great!

Moral of the story... Never too old to be yourself! Have fun!

dun1urkin · 15/02/2018 20:07

There’s no ‘too old’, think of all those women who were friends with my grandma when I was little with blue or purple rinses. That’s pastel hair, too

sourpatchkid · 15/02/2018 20:09

There are a couple of elderly ladies (75 plus) where I live who have bright pink and purple hair. I'm in a rural/posho area too. They look amazing!

Do it. Do it. Do it

Aworldofmyown · 15/02/2018 20:11

I'm 40 this year and have just changed the underneath of my hair to a rose gold. I love it, it has taken a few trips of gradual bleaching highlights with the pink toners over the top. The pink also fades very fast.

Still love it though - do it!

clumsyduck · 15/02/2018 20:13

As a reasonably young one here - There is no such thing as to old !! Fuck society's construct of who should do what . Go for it !!!

Aworldofmyown · 15/02/2018 20:13

Mines quite like this, but my hair is a lighter at the roots. pin.it/e4bq6anlpotfmc

clumsyduck · 15/02/2018 20:13

Just to clarify I mean with regards to women's looks not that we should all just do whatever we want haha

coragreta · 15/02/2018 20:14

It depends if your hair is in good condition. If you hair is slimy and shiny it will look good. If your hair is a little old and frazzled no way.

Ummmmgogo · 15/02/2018 20:15

those hairstyles are lovely! 45 isn't too old don't be silly. the bleaching can be damaging but as you are blond already that should be a problem for you. post pics when you've done it Smile

Claricestarling1 · 15/02/2018 20:18

Do it!! Why live your life worrying about what anyone else thinks?!! We are all too worried about our own hair anyway!! 😉

Thebluedog · 15/02/2018 20:21

OK I’m convinced - thank you Grin that’s kind of my thoughts but just had a fleeting moment of being sensible

I'd love pastel hair and I'm early 50s, however my hair is light brown and I don't want all the hassle of bleaching it first. I went to college with someone who had pastel hair long before it was a thing , she'd bleach her hair and then use a blue rinse, the sort aimed at old ladies

ilovecherries · 15/02/2018 20:41

I think about 107 is probably too old. So you have time!

DeniseBest · 15/02/2018 20:46

I'm 44 and I've got some peachy pastel thing going on with my highlights at the mo.
I accidently came across pastels when my hairdresser recommended using a wash in wash out lilac dye mixed in with a blob of conditioner to tone down the brassiness in my highlights. I added too much liliac and ended up with quite a nice effect.

DeniseBest · 15/02/2018 20:48

To answer your question. You are never too old. If you like it, you try it.

AntArcticFox · 15/02/2018 20:48

I'd just add to weight of numbers in saying there wouldn't be an upper age limit.

SimplySuzanne · 15/02/2018 20:54

Helen Mirren rocked it and she's far from a teenager.

I have pink ends... well, started off as ends and it’s crept upwards so it’s about half and half now!

And (shock), I’m going to go rainbow on Wednesday! It’s from me, for my birthday, which is today. 39, err, again. I’m recycling 38 &39 until I feel grown up enough to go up a decade. It may be some time, especially now my child is old enough to have grasped the importance of the yearly cycling of numbers. He was soooo linear when younger and had an annoying tendency to announce my years loudly or worse, correct me when I was forced into sharing my age. Ah it’s nice when they grow!

Anyway, back to the hair, I’m loving the pink and will be going back to pink, possibly more goldy/pink after the rainbow fades. But the rainbow is very exciting, and will also be somewhat mixed with normal coloured hair so I don’t look too bonkers with it. Maybe I’ll do all of the hairs but just the ends... so I can put it up in a bun to tone it down to almost vanishing should I feel the need. Or maybe an undercut where a half head of hair is fully rainbow but nestling underneath my normal (highlighted) hair, so if my hair is down and carefully tied back in a low ponytail/ left down, you’ll just see colours peeking through... but I can ruffle it and let the rainbow out very easily too!

All these beautiful pastels are so much fun, and I love that they are ‘a thing’ now.

I just avoid the very overly sugary baby pinks and blues etc, as I think connotations of playboy bunnies and soft porn style ‘girly but grown up’ faux innocence stuff is 1. Hideous, and 2. Makes me look ancient and I couldn’t carry it off and 3. Makes my skin crawl!!! So obviously, I avoid that :)
