"flocked" - boom tish boom Grin

youcantelleverybody · 01/03/2018 12:10

See what I did there.

Usernameblank · 01/03/2018 12:30

I did. Are you here all week?

Mrsdoubleskulls · 02/03/2018 17:43

I haven't read blogs since before Christmas (Instagram has taken over as my go to for a fashion fix recently), but with 4 days off work as snow days, I have caught up on a few. In terms of transparency, I feel that KatFarmer has done a complete 180, and deserves to be congratulated. She is now openly acknowledging partnerships, collaborations, gifts and relationships, none of which detracts from her content.

I am genuinely impressed, and will go back to reading her blog on a regular basis.

SirSidneyRuffDiamond · 02/03/2018 17:50

I agree that Kat is now very transparent and yet it doesn't bug me because she also has plenty of content that isn't sponsored or an ad. Some bloggers just don't get the balance right and it stops me engaging. She always shows a variety of prices, brands and mixes up the paid content with the unpaid.

youcantelleverybody · 02/03/2018 20:35

Holy shit. DLAM has done a 'paid partnership' with Topshop post and included #ad.

Usernameblank · 02/03/2018 21:01

Totally agree re DMBL40. Her content has always been engaging and is even better now I’m not second guessing everything. She is someone I would happily swipe up and click on affiliate links for.

I’m also thinking DLAM is starting to edge towards being more transparent. A couple of #ads, paid partnerships and even a gifted suitcase the other day. I still get a bit wound up that her M&S partnerships aren’t disclosed on insta. Anyhow, not going to knock her (M&S should know better) I’m just pleased to see she is disclosing more.

totallyliterally · 02/03/2018 21:05

All kicking off with next and hello and their latest thing of finding a star mum. Go see the post on the next Instagram.

Utter lack of any kind of diversity with the judges chosen.

Next replied it was an oversight and whoops silly us.

OMG that apology 🙈

Jjpeston · 02/03/2018 22:56

I can't find the apology or the shit storm about this Next thing anywhere. I saw Mother Pukka had pulled out, from her Insta but wasn't sure what the huge fuss or upset was about. Can someone explain?

Usernameblank · 02/03/2018 23:02

I think that’s part of the problem. The apology is buried on the comments (you have to scroll back near the top) on the nextofficialpr (not the main next) page. It’s a pretty half assed apology.

Usernameblank · 02/03/2018 23:03

Next appear to be trying to pin the blame on Hello now. Not sure that strategy is going to work...

Jjpeston · 03/03/2018 06:04

Blame and finger pointing is now inevitable. It needs a strong PR position from Next to hold its hand up and say 'We made a mistake - these judges don't adequately represent the Britain of today.' But on another note, it is so admirable and I have to say refreshing to see a blogger of principle - referring to Mother Pukka here. It must be a struggle sometimes - you take on work for the money (as we all do), prestige and for her, the publicity - and unless these people are properly advised it's so hard for them to make the right call. I really feel like influencer agencies don't do enough to research individual campaigns and make intelligent calls on protecting their clients. Sorry but it's a really shonky industry in that respect.

totallyliterally · 03/03/2018 06:28

This was their apology in the comments

The 2017 panel..

In the apology they've totally missed it's about more that race. 🙄

totallyliterally · 03/03/2018 06:46

I can't upload anymore photos. But if you look on the next pr Instagram at the pr team it all becomes quite clear

Usernameblank · 03/03/2018 07:15

Next is run by a Cambridge educated peer who donates to the Conservative party and who supports Brexit. Their vision of a modern Britain probably isn’t the same as mine.

WipsGlitter · 03/03/2018 08:07

Whats Mother Pukka said about it?

Usernameblank · 03/03/2018 08:30

I think you need to read her IG comments. She has put her hands up and said “I f*cked up”. She said she wasn’t even paid to be on the panel which again smacks of brands taking advantage of influencers. Why shouldn’t she have been paid? The whole thing was a bollocksy competition to promote Next and Hello! It wasn’t a charity gig as far as I can see.

totallyliterally · 03/03/2018 08:59

Yes... she wanted to use it to highlight the flex appeal. And to be clear it wasn't her campaign. The issue is with next and hello.

Reading the comments is interesting on next and MP. People who are saying 'I don't see the issue' look the same as the women in the ad Hmm

Why yes of course you don't see the issue as it isn't you who isn't represented.

WipsGlitter · 03/03/2018 09:37

I think she's done some great damage limitation.

I'm sure she knew before the shoot who else was going to be there and she could have declined at that point.

Usernameblank · 03/03/2018 09:48

I don't see how the competition fits in with flex appeal at all tbh (and Next and Hello! aren't brands I would have associated with her or the campaign but maybe it was about taking it to wider audience I suppose). Surely this can't be the job she had 4 interviews for? But fair play to her for being open and saying she didn't think it through properly or go with her gut feel, because we have all made mistakes at work, none so visible though, and she is fronting up to it and facing the criticism head on rather than switching off her instagram and spending the day in bed, which is what I would probably want to be doing if I was her.

It's so interesting watching these things play out on IG though, one comment can spark off a whole train of other comments, someone mentions something else relating to the issue and that bubbles into lots of other posts each gradually making the same point but in a more forceful way, dissenting voices are dampened down, someone gets called a troll, a few people pop up with views completely opposed to everyone else and they get ignored, a couple of people completely miss the point and ask where her dress is from, and then the conversation can turn a complete 180 within the space of hours. Fascinating.

youcantelleverybody · 03/03/2018 11:22

That Next / Hello! thing was a monumental cock up on the part of so many people. How the fuck did that get signed off?
