Er, no I didn't say that. You haven't even read what I said so how can you comment? This is clearly someone connected to her as you keep referring to it.

TheLuckyMrsPine · 25/02/2018 20:48

None of you seem to be explaining why there's a need for the numerous posts on these threads just basically slagging certain bloggers off based on their personalities or blog content, what has that got to do with transparency?

I have read the whole thread and have not seen “numerous” posts slagging bloggers off. EC went through a phase of storying how much she drank and how she was concerned & going to cut down... I do think if you are going to post that stuff to thousands of followers then they will have opinions. Also AH who quite ridulously made a threatening remark which Mumsnet themselves confirmed was a crock of sh*te. You can’t expect to have thousands of followers and to divulge intimate parts of your life/ families etc and have everyone agree.

It’s the IG version of being a Kardashian. If you sell your private life it’s no longer really private .

A lot of doesn’t mean everything though does it.....lots of the comments I have read (and some I have made myself) were off the back of extreme rudeness from bloggers.

sanpelligrino · 25/02/2018 21:02

I find you hilarious whoever you are Sofia lemon. They both make a good living out of being incredibly provocative and often quite rude about all kinds of things, I shouldn't think one little opinion on mumsnet would upset them but there you go - those in glass houses...

TheLuckyMrsPine · 25/02/2018 21:07

SofiaLemon I wonder what you think about Giles Coren writing a whole article about his young son being fat? With photos, names everything? He doesn’t sound like someone who would be bothered by 1comment on a forum.....

I think though that you have derailed this thread and that was perhaps the intention. After all in the face of being proven incorrect about bloggers not changing due to these threads and that people are commenting on the opaque posts on IG you still seem to be picking up on one comment made pages ago.

sanpelligrino · 25/02/2018 21:10

Ok bloggers I like... Clemmie Telford. Genuinely makes me lol and her kids are very cute. The one who does the parenting packages... who has just had a baby. Neither give too much of a toss clearly and come across likeable and real.

mrscampbellblackreturns · 25/02/2018 21:13

I really don't understand anyone arguing that there shouldn't be transparency. Most professional bloggers accept there should be and I suspect there will be lots more legislation in this area in the future especially regarding how children are featured. I mean if a blogger is using their child to sell a child-related product, well surely that money should be going to the child directly?

Some people clearly realised that bloggers were getting gifted lots of stuff but an awful lot of people didn't realise.

I have no problem with bloggers making a living out of what they do and I don't think many people do. However I think many people miss the days when it was someone blogging about a great skirt they'd found in zara rather than just something they'd been given or paid to promote.

But times change and I now have unfollowed pretty much every blogger except for Esther as she is funny. Quite hard to get fashion inspiration now though as pinterest is just dreadful and filled with adverts. I'm sensing a theme here Wink

SofiaLemon · 25/02/2018 21:13

I agree, I doubt they care. I just don't see the relevance.

SofiaLemon · 25/02/2018 21:16

I really don't think 2/3 bloggers changing is exactly a success in the scheme of things.

TheLuckyMrsPine · 25/02/2018 21:17

When you combine the followers of DMBL40, MOD & ED I would say it’s quite a large success

ABuckToothedGirlinLuxembourg · 25/02/2018 21:18

It will filter down though, those two or three will become many more.

sanpelligrino · 25/02/2018 21:22

Also let's not forget that brands like m&s and others cant risk having reputational damage done by non compliance to the rules and also their gang of influencers being linked to bad stuff. Basic rules of publicity. No wonder EC didn't like the drinking comment. Well don't blog about it then!

sanpelligrino · 25/02/2018 21:23

I look forward to the rules being tighter... it can't be long surely.

PavlovaPrincess · 25/02/2018 21:28

I agree. sofia keeps saying that she just can't understand why anyone would care about transparency and then when she's told (several times) why it matters just keeps repeating that she doesn't know know why it matters.

I think she's either a blogger or a troll and she's done an excellent job of me-railing the thread.

Hiphophippityhop · 25/02/2018 21:29

When the larger bloggers are transparent and show that being transparency has a positive effect on their business model, it will filter down. Loads of large bloggers who are US based are way ahead anyway because the FTC has been more forceful on this than the ASA. Eventually the ones that have decided to ignore the change of consumer sentiment are going to look a bit silly and will either go out of business because brands won't want to work with them or they will have to fall in with the crowd to keep up. So it won't be mumsnet that changes the world (obviously), but change will happen eventually whether bloggers like it or not. If I was a blogger I would rather be ahead of the curve than behind it.

Mrsdoubleskulls · 26/02/2018 06:21

I completely agree with you PavlovaPrincess. Complete derailment of an interesting thread.

AppleHEAD · 26/02/2018 06:34

I am intrigued about transparency and things being ‘gifted’ or sponsored. I find I’m wondering a lot now if people are being paid to say things or if it’s their genuine opinion. Then when they do seem to just be expressing a genuine opinion about a shop or product then I assume they are touting for sponsorship.
Only a few make me feel that.
On the subject of EW I really like her she her honest chaotic style. But I did worry about how much she was including alcohol in her Instagram stories. When you follow someone it’s hard not to notice and I suppose comment.

nipersvest · 26/02/2018 08:07

Sofialemon, you are coming across as naive, it’s not just about where things are at right now on social media and influencers, it’s where this all will lead if it continues to be woefully unregulated.

chanie44 · 26/02/2018 08:07

Anneli Bush did a 'November favourites' blog and featured a LK Bennett bag. It was featured along with lots of other items and there was also a picture of Anneli wearing the bag.

She recently sold the bag through her website and stated that it was brand new and unused.

WipsGlitter · 26/02/2018 08:26

Technically I guess it is. If she just used it for a photshoot. It's not like it was in daily use.

I think there's a line between hobby IGs and business ones that have evolved from a blog or similar. So DMBL has evolved. AB tried to make hers a business but is now happy just doing the odd post and probably doesn't care if it makes money or not so it's more hobby.

Frugality- business
AH - hobby to business
School gate style - hobby to business to hobby
WiT - hobby to business but it looks like a hobby!
There's still loads out there who are hobby ones.

TheLuckyMrsPine · 26/02/2018 09:28

Anneli Bush’s IG is definitely business not hobby. I suspect that she makes a lot more than pin money.

I think that chanie44 was trying to say that as the bag was being sold brand new and unused it was obviously not a purchased product and was an advertisement as AB took a picture tagging brand and then immediately sold.

WipsGlitter · 26/02/2018 10:36

AB is the least transparent of them all. But I don't think she cares. I don't know if she makes money but she is sent a shedload of stuff!

nipersvest · 26/02/2018 11:08

I always assume with AB when she uses the term ‘bits’ they are gifts or sponsored items, and she refers to ‘bits’ a lot.
