PPH, I can see you wincing from here...but am worried about being on my feet for along time. If Birkies not acceptable, please direct me to something suitably elegant and comfortable that is (and not Footgloves, please).

I've been told I've got to wear a hat.

hang on, whos going to this thing? mrsS or LL? or both?

fishie · 01/05/2007 22:12

what bag mrs s?

i have made those poor shoes sound unwearable. do go to clarks and have a look if you like comfy shoes, they have got plenty of choice and lots of them are attractive.

oh no. a career in shoe description is not for me is it.

hatwoman · 01/05/2007 22:13

hats are old hat. (maybe I should change my name....)

NappiesGalore · 01/05/2007 22:13

and wahat about a hat, hatwoman ?

edam · 01/05/2007 22:13

Is this thread merely a ruse so you can show off about being invited to Buck House?

Do not show your toes, she is an old lady, it's a formal occasion, and it would be a bit rude.

And I think you should practise your curtsey. Ten knee bobs a night every night!

WendyWeber · 01/05/2007 22:13

both, I think, nappies. wabbit is married to a naval viscount you know.

NappiesGalore · 01/05/2007 22:14

oh
xposts
yes maybe your should

WendyWeber · 01/05/2007 22:14

edam, are old ladies supposed to be shielded from toes ???

NappiesGalore · 01/05/2007 22:15

is she? gosh thats posh

NappiesGalore · 01/05/2007 22:16

yes. they melt at sight of toes. esp old hairy knarled ones like mrsS' and LL's.

NadineBaggott · 01/05/2007 22:16

I think wellies would go down well with Liz

hatwoman · 01/05/2007 22:16

my favourites were always mint viscounts

JackieNo · 01/05/2007 22:17

Look here - the Royal Website itself says there are no rules, just guidelines, and the guidelines say dress and hat (though nothing about tights or birkenstocks).

WendyWeber · 01/05/2007 22:18

"national dress may also be worn" - OK, I'm English, wossat then? (How about birkies?)

Maybe you could get away with Birkies as long as you teamed them with lederhosen then?

JackieNo · 01/05/2007 22:20

Are M&S shoes English national costume?

Meid - I went when pregnant too.... It was very hot day and I nearly fainted. Was shocked at the rudeness of the other guests who wouldn't give me a seat. Bastards.

Princess Diana was going around shaking hands and she said 'for goodness sake get this poor lady a seat before she falls down'.

hatwoman · 01/05/2007 22:27

are yo both going at teh same time? how exciting, do you know eahc other? won;t you spend the entire time looking for subtle clues?

Nightynight · 01/05/2007 22:27

not lederhosen - this would suit mrs s better...

LynetteScavo · 01/05/2007 23:40

On that link by jackieNo, you can email them to ask! I'd do that, then you'd know the offical Royal line on Birkies!
