PPH, I can see you wincing from here...but am worried about being on my feet for along time. If Birkies not acceptable, please direct me to something suitably elegant and comfortable that is (and not Footgloves, please).

strawberry cream

WendyWeber · 01/05/2007 22:01

Thank God I am nevernevernever going to be invited to one of these things

you generally have to apply wendy, it doesn't just happen to you by accident

and assuming you have applied and been given tickets I think people should have the courtesy to dress properly

Was joking about the fungal infection (I just wanted to see PPH shudder at the thought of Birkies and manky nails).

i'll defend the right to wear any sort of footwear at any occasion, especially clogs at posh meetings. but mrs s has asked and those shoes are comfy (apart from the heels but that might jsut be my curse)

marthamoo · 01/05/2007 22:04

I think you should wear a MN T-shirt - tell Liz about us - she's more than welcome. Can you imagine her posts?

Ds1 is keen to take over as head of the family business but he's always been a little odd (and I can't bear his dw) so I'm reluctant to hand over the reigns [see what I did with that pun there, didja?] But I see the resentment in his eyes when he looks at me...should I step aside and let him take over? I am rather knackered and could quite fancy quiet afternoons watching Countdown.

MrsSchadenfreude · 01/05/2007 22:04

I am tall. Will have to buy new hat as have just found mine in dressing up box. Will try C & A in Brussels as I am going there for a weekend soon. I think The Queen would appreciate C & A.

french sole are overrated, overpriced and have stupidly laborious returns policy. if they didnt i would squander much moolah with them. idiots.

if your toes are as beautiful as you say, go and be respendent in your tastefully pedicured wonderfulness. all the daft bints in uncomfortable shoes will be soooooooo jealous of you!

Nightynight · 01/05/2007 22:06

I was so much hoping that this thread was started by the queen.

NappiesGalore · 01/05/2007 22:06

but yes; you need a hat.
fgs when else do you have excuse for ridiculous spend on improbable headgear??

PrincessPeaHead · 01/05/2007 22:07

ah now you see I wouldn't bother with a hat meself, it isn't a wedding (and I don't wear them there either)

unless you think it will be a bit hot

nice summery dress, suitable footwear, straw sunhat if you feel the need and bobs your uncle

WendyWeber · 01/05/2007 22:07

Oh lord yes, the very place, I used to go into C&A with the express purpose of trying on silly hats from their huge hat dept when I was about 15

PPH, that is such a weight off my mind - I thought they might invite subjects from a random list, like jury service!

mishw · 01/05/2007 22:07

No no no no no!

I love my Birkies but wouldn't dream of wearing them to Buck house. I'm sure you can find some comfortable flatties that would be more appropirate (and can you let me know when you do as I;m looking for some smarter comfy shoes too )

PrincessPeaHead · 01/05/2007 22:07

oh dear nappies, we are really diverging on this one!

MrsSchadenfreude · 01/05/2007 22:08

Hat is compulsory, PPH. And no trousers (but they have not said cannot have no drawers - red hat).

PrincessPeaHead · 01/05/2007 22:08

you are safe, wendy
unless your DH or MIL applies on the sly and then insists you go

but then you could always divorce

NappiesGalore · 01/05/2007 22:08

ah. and i wouldnt bother for a wedding (would feel overdressed twat)

i clearly have much to learn PPH

hat is absolutely not compulsory, trust me

they may have suggested you might like to wear a hat, but you don't have to

Ooopsydaisy · 01/05/2007 22:10

I wore birkis to a summer wedding when i was 39 weeks. Under the knee hemline and i can assure you that the pics are truly well horrid.... i look like a proper elephant...bah

Meid · 01/05/2007 22:11

I went to one when I was pregnant with puffy ankles. I can't remember exactly what I wore on my feet but think they may have resembled slippers. I got in.

NappiesGalore · 01/05/2007 22:11

well then shoes are not ewither... no?? certainly not clo9sed toe ones???

hatwoman · 01/05/2007 22:11

absolute NOOOOO to birkies. get yourself to Clark's. forget being dragged there kicking and screaming as a kid. they are FAB. I have one pair of elegant wedged sandals from there and a pair of killer red heels that I adore and I kid you not they are both as comfy as trainers. I've done many a wedding in the heels and have never been remotely tempted to kick them off.
