So.....How Much is Too Much for a pair of "posh" flip flops?

Picked up a great pair on Friday and didn't think to look at the price-they were only flip flops after all.DP said "I will buy them for you"-lovely says I and then I am more than a little shocked when I found out how much they cost.

So ladies-how much is too much?

Well last year my SIL paid £75 for a pair

Fimbo · 30/04/2007 13:19

No more than £20 for plasticky ones.

Whoooosh · 30/04/2007 13:22

No-not plastic-leather with a large Diamonte jewell on the front-am desperately trying to find a picure but to no avail.....

DrNorthener-your SIL got a bargain

OP posts:
DrNortherner · 30/04/2007 13:23

No?!!! You didn't spend more than £75 did you??

Fimbo · 30/04/2007 13:24

About £50 then, go on Whoosh how many smackers?

MrsBadger · 30/04/2007 13:26

depnds how comfy they are and what they're for:

if I were to wear them more or less every day this summer and maybe next as well I'd be happy to shell out £40ish quid, same as I'd pay for everyday work shoes etc (Everyday Flipflops)

if they were two-weeks-then-bin-'em, no more than £10 (Novelty Flipflops)

if they were for two weeks a year for the next five years probably £30-40 (Holiday Flipflops)

if they would be worn to one event a year as part of a fabulous outfit for the next five years, £30-40, maybe a bit more (Party Flipflops)

MrsBadger · 30/04/2007 13:26

... but then I don't normally spend more then £40 on shoes ever so this is the top of my budget.

MascaraOHara · 30/04/2007 13:28

I paid £50 for my timberland flip-flops and they are fantastic.. before that I would never have thought I'd pay so much but they are soo comfy and lovely and just smashing, gush, gush

Whoooosh · 30/04/2007 13:29

Well this is why I am so shocked as I never spend more than about £40 on shoes (I have very different priorities)

They were £125!

charliecat · 30/04/2007 13:30

I pay £30 for my reef tigris one. Sex on my feet. Worn day and night.

Lovecat · 30/04/2007 13:32

OH bought me a pair in Dubai that cost about £50 equivalent (rubber sole, soft calf-leather straps). Was horrified at the time but they were sooooo comfy and lovely I cried last year when they finally broke on me!

£175? Is it a real diamond on the decoration? [flabbergasted smiley]

MascaraOHara · 30/04/2007 13:34

£125? really?? god, I'm rarly speachless at the price of something but that's a lot for flip-flops, what make?

Whoooosh · 30/04/2007 13:40

I am trying to make myself fell better by calling them "sandals" and in fairness, they are more of a sandal.
Got them in Russell and Bromley-they are lovely-well I like them but am wrestling with my conscience about taking them back.

OP posts:
pirategirl · 30/04/2007 13:42

I'd take them back and buy two differnt types of shoes, for the summer.

my god that is alot of money, in fact knowing me i could prob get about 4 pairs for that money.

wow!

MascaraOHara · 30/04/2007 14:34

Russel & bromley though.. console yourself in the fact that they will last you for years and will be sooo soft and comfortable

gegs73 · 30/04/2007 14:38

Gosh that is alot for flippers! But if I loved them and thought they would last more than 1 summer and had the spare cash, I would def keep them

IdrisTheDragon · 30/04/2007 14:41

That sounds a lot to me (but my flipflops did cost £1 in Asda last year ).

LittleSarah · 30/04/2007 14:48

That is a bit OTT.

Saw some lovely DKNY flip-flops today for a mere £50 though!

donnie · 30/04/2007 14:52

mine were a fiver at M & S last year.

Nbg · 30/04/2007 14:54

I have seen some gorgeous ones on Net-a-Porter for £200.
They were sooooo yummy.

Whoooosh · 30/04/2007 14:54

Well I did buy a pair in Tesco yesterday which were only £15 but there really is no comparison.
These will last me a few years I reckon as will hardly be "every day wear"....

OP posts:
cheeryface · 30/04/2007 16:52

mine were £3 in matalan

NKF · 30/04/2007 16:56

You could spent hundreds if you wanted.

Whoooosh · 30/04/2007 17:38

Oh I know I could-just not used to it-hope they are blardy comfortable when I actually get to wear them

OP posts:
stitch · 01/05/2007 11:28
