I was told this top was "ageing", is it true?

I was shopping with my friend today and was having a look at the new stuff in Joules, as they ususally do lovely patterns.
I saw this top and immediately loved it (what a gorgeous and delicate pattern!). I said this to my friend...and she immediately said how ageing it would be. Here's the link to the top, in the cream botanicals print www.joules.com/Women/Tops/Harbour-Print/Jersey-Top/Cream-Botanicals?id=Y_HARBOURPRINT%7CCREMBOT

Is my friend right? I'm not ususally affected by stuff like this and wear what I want, but a man recently said I looked much older than I was and now I'm overthinking things. For the record, I'm 20 years old.

Any advice much appreciated 😊

Sorry that is not a top for wearing in your 20s. I would not wear that in my 70s

If your heart is absolutely set on it, buy it tight and wear it with ripped high waisted skinny jeans and something like coloured DM shoes. Then you will look 80s and a bit edgy.

Water - wear what you like and feel good in.

Whose style do you like?

I'm not at all fashionable, have a couple of things from Joules and am 37. I wouldn't be caught dead in that, sorry! Mil might suit it but she's nearly 70 so take from that what you will.

It's a bit Bonne Marché, or Classics Collection from M&S. Sorry. Confused

What kind of clothes are you into op? Do you have a pull and bear or Stradivarius near you? I went to both with my teenage daughter recently and was very impressed. Also oasis, miss selfridge and Dorothy Perkins are great for more 'girly' pretty clothes if you're more into a feminine look.

Perfect.

If you're going on a Saga cruise.

I'm 43, and I wouldn't be seen dead in that.

I like it and don't think it's ageing.

Joules is aimed at 35+ to me. It's frumpy but I can't see my mum shopping there and she's in her 70s. If I was 20 I wouldn't be going anywhere near joules. Get yourself to Topshop!

No I take it back. Don't buy it. Its the shape not the print, its designed for a matronly bosom and a post meno tummy. It won't look edgy no matter what you do.

I disagree. I think young women can get away with things like that and look good, whereas an older women would look frumpy.

Just like younger women look great it ditsy tea dresses, and older women look frump.y

I normally just wear stuff from Jack Wills to be honest... I'm no follower of fashion really, but maybe I should be. I love a pinafore with a jumper or shirt underneath or a stripey top. Jeans and stripy top...very boring really 😬

I think at 20 you’d look fine in it.

I’m 41 and it would make me look very very old Sad

If I was 20 I’d wear it with skinnies and a sharp modern haircut. If only.

It's a lovely top but not for your age.
Personally, I used to love Joules but have been bored with their patterns the last few years. They are so predictable like Kate Kidson.

polly when I was 19 I visited my granny to discover we were wearing the same ditsy tea dress Grin it looked cool on me though.

It’s pretty. I’d have to see it in RL to judge it properly tbh.

Depends who and how you wear it.

I’m 50, and it’s too frumpy for me.

On a middle aged busty woman like me it would look frumpy. On a 20 year old it could look fresh and edgy, depending how you styled it My DC are in their 20s and often wear things that would look mumsy on me but suit them.

My mum would prob wear it, shes 70!
Joules is about as mumsy and frumpy as it gets imho.

Yes, ageing I'm afraid. Unless you're 80 then it would look quite fresh.

LittleFryingPan · 02/02/2018 21:02

I'd wear it (I'm 26)! I've got almost waist length extensions, loads of tattoos and a penchant for a lip kip so hopefully wouldn't look too old... super spray on skinny jeans rolled up with either trainers or ankle boots and my favourite leather jacket.

Wouldn't pay bloody 30 quit for it though!
