£80 to get your colours done - is it worth it?

Anyone had their colours done? Did it significantly change the way you look, and if so, how? Is it worth the cost?

yes, but i didn't have to pay cos my friend does it and it was her birthday present to me. she offers a whole day out at a studio, with lunch and drinks included. is that the same as the person you want to go to?
i got a little colours book which tells me which colours i can wear and which shades. she even covered things like what type of jewellery to wear. i must admit it did change the way i looked. i used to wear lots of pink and blue and purple which didn't do much for me. now i wear green, turquoise and brown cos they really suit me apparently.

pointydog · 29/04/2007 20:33

£80?!

surely it's not worth it

hex · 29/04/2007 20:38

I don't know whether it's worth it or not...my fear is that she'll tell me that all the clothes (which I've had for years) are wrong and that I need new ones..but cause I've spent my budget on the advice, I've no money left to buy the right ones (lol!!)

OP posts:
nappyaddict · 29/04/2007 21:20

what i did was gradually throw out stuff that wasn't really right as i could afford to buy stuff that was.

fishie · 29/04/2007 21:31

it is worth every penny. also you'll already have quite a lot of stuff in good colours which you will now adore because it is Approved. and it is such fun to dismiss stuff in shops saying 'no this is not for me'

nappyaddict · 29/04/2007 21:35

you save so much money in shops because you are "unable" to buy it anymore!

LaCerbiatta · 29/04/2007 22:11

It's sooooo worth it! I had it done a couple of months ago and loved it. Have a look in lastminute.com though, it only cost me £65.
But I think you need to believe it. I really do believe not all colours suit everyone and you do look a lot better when wearing the right ones, but lots of people think this is silly. My friends at work for example didn't reallly say anything but I could tell they thought it was all nonsense. i think some people think you lack personality if you just wear what you're told iyswim....
Anyway, this is totally unhelpful, it's just me with everyone who thinks I'm silly for believing in this!
Go for it! you won't regret it! Don't worry about not having clothes that suit you, most people can wear most things as long as they combine it with good colours. What's your eye /skin /hair collour?

PeachesMcLean · 29/04/2007 22:14

Saves a lot of expensive errors when you go shopping. You might see something that looks gorgeous in the shop but unless you want to look a bit ill, you know it's not worth buying. I used to wear a lot of orange and gold colours cos I just loved it but now I know it makes me look like death, so much as I still love it, is it worth it?

NKF · 29/04/2007 22:15

it can't be worth it, can it? Isn't it all really basic? Skin colouring, eye and hair colours etc. And then experimenting. Couldnt' one just talk it over with a stylish friend?

Tommy · 29/04/2007 22:24

I had mine done 10 years ago and still use the colours book (although I do know which are "my" colours now!) - absolutely the best thing I ever did style-wise.

Go for it

LaCerbiatta · 29/04/2007 22:24

Well, it's not basic at all. Sometimes it's quite hard to work out what tpe or subtype you fit in to. I bought the book and tried to work it out by myself and was pretty sure I got it right but I didn't, I got it wrong. And the stylish friends aren't always very knowledgable, not mine anyway. Everyone always told me - oh you have olive skin, you suit yellow and orange, and yet I don't at all.

NKF · 29/04/2007 22:26

Don't people ever get told they suit colours they don't like much?

pointydog · 29/04/2007 22:39

hardly anyone suits yellow though.

LaCerbiatta · 30/04/2007 10:38

Everyone gets told they suit colours they don't like, that's because everyone suits such a large range of colours you're bound not to like something. I hate some of 'my' colours, like the fashionable royal blue and true purple and others. But I don't need to wear them, there are loads of others I like!

Come one NKF, I'm sure you can be converted ! What's your eye and hair colours?

NKF · 30/04/2007 13:01

Perhaps I've always avoided it because I fear they will tell me I suit turquoise or apricot.

LaCerbiatta · 30/04/2007 13:20

Well if you do you'll also suit 20 other colours so fear not! Tell me your eye and hair colour! I read their book, I'm almost an expert . I'll do a consultation for free!

NKF · 30/04/2007 15:06

Dark brown hair and eyes. Light brown skin.

LaCerbiatta · 30/04/2007 15:18

Well... It looks like you're a 'deep' like me. You suit strong colours and contrasts, like black and white but you don't suit pastels and light colours, not on their own and close to your face anyway. Now, within a 'deep' you can be cool or warm and this is where it gets tricky. You're cool if your hair doesn't have any red or auburn tones, your eyes are ebony brown more than hazel or yelow speckled and your skin is pinkish and not golden. If this is the case (it is for me), you don't suit anything with yellow in it, like oranges, terracota, earthy greens, etc. You suit colours with blue undertones like pinks and purples and blues. But also red, dark strong greens like esmerald, turquoise (oops), and some neutrals like taupe and of course black!
There you go! What do you think? Makes any sense? Or do you think your best colour is tangerine?

suzywong · 30/04/2007 15:29

bloody hell it costs $195 here, for a two hour consultation

is it worth it?

NKF · 30/04/2007 16:09

Yay! I'm cool and deep and can wear black. No shocks there apart from turquoise! Yellow makes me look like a lump of Cheddar and I hate the colour green. I've never worn red but I like the colour in rugs. Thank you. That was interesting. Just out of curiosity, what would someone get for an £80 consultation?

LaCerbiatta · 30/04/2007 16:53

OMG, I feel like I've almost converted you NKF!
I payed £65a and it included, apart from the colours, a make up lesson with again the colours that suit. I was given a walet with the swatches with my colours and some leaflets with the season colours I can wear. It took around 2 hours.

nappyaddict · 30/04/2007 16:54

what company did you go with ?

NKF · 30/04/2007 16:55

Not exactly converted but I shan't feel bad anymore about adding to my white shirt collection.
