The Ordinary Granactive retinoid? Has anyone used this?

I have fairly sensitive skin and would like to try a retinol product with low amounts so I can build up.
I’ve heard quite good things about The Ordinary products and am thinking of the Granactive Retinoid 2%.
Has anyone tried this? Did it cause irritation and have you seen any good results.

I use it and really like it. I use it every second night and I don’t remember ever having irritation.
I use the emulsion one. There’s also a squalene one but I found it too oily to put more than a tiny drop on my face so I didn’t feel like it did much.

HeyMacWey · 24/01/2018 21:27

I use the 2% in squalene and have had some slight reaction/dryness where I've put it too close to one of my eyes.

But other than no one problems. I just use a good hyaluronic toner before using the ordinary stuff.

Upyours2017 · 24/01/2018 21:30

I have been using this every night for the past week and have had no irritation at all, it seems to be a decent product for the money, now hoping that it will work and iron out a few wrinkles!

DragonMamma · 24/01/2018 21:31

I’ve broken out something chronic with mine - when I wasn’t spotty before.

I even emailed The Ordinary and they advised to take a break for a few weeks.

I had such high hopes for it too! Sad

TheOtherGirl · 24/01/2018 21:48

I started using this 2 nights ago. Zero irritation, but have noticed several tiny dry, flakey patches (no bigger than a match head). Assuming it is the retinol starting to slough off skin?

Can you put it around your eyes?

I have been using Clinique Pep Start eyecream for the last 2 months, but don't rate it really.

thisismyhair · 24/01/2018 21:57

I've been using it intermittently for the last couple of weeks and had no irritation at all.
I've not noticed any change in my skin either which is a bit disappointing!
I'm going to try it every day for a while and hopefully one day I'll wake up with amazing skin Wink

Luckingfovely · 24/01/2018 22:05

I've been using it for a few months and it's brilliant. Note though - I can't put it anywhere near nose or chin else I grow lumps the size of gold balls overnight. Everywhere else is fine.

But - Ordinary Klaxon - I've just started with the Alpha Lipoic Acid and it is unbelievable. Immediate difference overnight. Read the review on the site - it actually lives up to them.

I use a couple of the water based serums first, and then alternate the retinoid, a vitamin c, and the ALA on a three night pattern, and I can't tell you how much better my skin is looking.

MeganChips · 24/01/2018 22:06

I have very sensitive skin and have been using this since Christmas with no reaction at all.

I have to say my skin is looking loads better. I also use the lactic acid and the buffet serum though so it could be any of them.

Twoweekcruise · 25/01/2018 11:01

Thanks all. Will give it a go but worried about having a break out though!

I have a bottle winging its way to me now.

Presumably you don't have to use it all over your face, just on the problem areas?

I'm not keen on the idea of getting spots from it.

lubeybooby · 25/01/2018 13:33

I have the 5% in squalane and no irritation for me

Upyours2017 · 25/01/2018 13:46

Ooh Lucking I've just googled and ordered that! Thank you for the tip!

MidLifeCrisis2017 · 25/01/2018 16:57

Been using daily since Christmas without problems. I'm convinced I've noticed a difference but no one else has mentioned my sudden resemblance to Cate Blanchett!

MiniTheMinx · 25/01/2018 17:29

I started using this 3 days ago x2 a day, with no reaction. A few tiny dry patches, which I assume is the product sloughing off dead skin. I also purchased their hyaluronic acid. Skin looks more glowy already. But I have also swapped from De la mer to an Ester Lauder moisturiser.

I read somewhere that the ordinary do some other acid stuff for reducing pores, can't remember what it's called but I want to try that. I have dry skin normally but if im not careful I get open looking pores around my nose.

MadameBronte · 25/01/2018 18:03

I really think you're only meant to use it once, at night Mini.

MiniTheMinx · 25/01/2018 18:06

Oh, I just assumed I could use it in the morning too. I won't then. What should I use in the morning instead?

MadameBronte · 25/01/2018 18:26

You're only meant to apply it at night, because retinol reacts badly to sunlight. If you're using retinol at night you should use a high factor sunscreen in the morning.

I have been using it every night for the last few days, and have several tiny dry patches. Will these go?

RiojaHaze · 25/01/2018 18:28

I alternate the retinoid with their lactic acids followed by rosehip oil.
Make sure to use a good spf the morning after using it!

MiniTheMinx · 25/01/2018 19:24

Thank you Madame I've never put sunscreen on my face. In fact I've never used it anywhere else either. I don't burn so I've never bothered. Can you recommend something suitable?

I'm hoping the tiny dry patches remedy themselves once the top layer of dead cells is sloughed off. Does anyone know if this is the case?

HeyMacWey · 25/01/2018 20:32

Re: spf - I've just started using the ultruist spf 50 and really rate it. You can buy it in amazon. No white cast, reasonable dry down. Not as matt as the biore watery essence, but I think that might be because I put too much on. I heard that the recent biore isn't as good as some of the previous years incarnations.

They also do a spf 30.
Would recommend - they give to charity too.

MiniTheMinx · 25/01/2018 22:20

Thank you Hey I'll have a look.

BagelGoesWalking · 26/01/2018 13:35

Please PLEASE use sunscreen with any Retinol/Retinoid use, even on cloudy days. They make the skin more photo-sensitive and you'll damage your skin, which kind of makes using the Retinol as an anti ageing tool, pretty pointless anyway.

crackerjacket · 26/01/2018 14:29

Alpha Lipoic Acid

^

Just ordered this thanks to Lucking's fame on the mnet swears by email.

It'd better be good! I currently look like a prune.

MadameBronte · 27/01/2018 14:05

Bagel my foundation is SPF 20, is that going to be good enough?

BagelGoesWalking · 27/01/2018 15:51

Madame Is it a sunscreen or in a moisturiser or foundation?

Just that it's generally recommended that it should be a dedicated sunscreen and a tsp and a half quantity!
