The Ordinary Granactive retinoid? Has anyone used this?

I have fairly sensitive skin and would like to try a retinol product with low amounts so I can build up.
I’ve heard quite good things about The Ordinary products and am thinking of the Granactive Retinoid 2%.
Has anyone tried this? Did it cause irritation and have you seen any good results.

Sorry, fuzzy with flu and reread.

MadameBronte · 27/01/2018 16:28

It's in my foundation, but I don't use anywhere near a tsp and a half! I do have the LRP spf 50 that was recommended on here though. Guess I'd better start using it.

lovemylover · 27/01/2018 17:58

I have been using this in emulsion for the last week every other night, no reaction at all so far
As matter of interest,QVC have the ordinary featured at 7pm tonight

lovemylover · 27/01/2018 19:09

Apologies for anyone watching QVC it DID say 7pm, but must be in the next section, beauty showcase

BagelGoesWalking · 27/01/2018 23:12

Madame I would imagine that very few ppl use that amount every day! It seems it depends on which website you look at- some say 1/2 tsp or nickel size dollop. I don't know how big a nickel is Smile

I guess the main thing is that something is better than nothing.

I'd make sunscreen part of your routine.
It's the best thing you can do for your skin.

MadameBronte · 28/01/2018 16:40

I've used the granactive retinol 2% every night for the last 5 night. I now have several flaky patches, but no irritation. Is this normal, or should I reduce to using it every other night?

Twoweekcruise · 28/01/2018 18:35

Does anyone know if the retinoid would also sort out other skin issues? Although I’ve never been a sun worshiper, since I’ve hit 40 I’ve more freckle type marks and general hyper pigmentation especially on my cheekbone area and forehead, which I hate and feel it shows unless I wear a thickish foundation but I prefer a B.B. cream for everyday.

Madame! Woah, don't use it so much! You're supposed to build up usage. 2-3 evenings a week and then build. Stop now for a week and concentrate on hydration and moisturising. You're not meant to get peeking or flaking with that formulation so it's a clear sign you're overdoing it.

BagelGoesWalking · 28/01/2018 19:49

Twoweek It should help with fine lines etc and perhaps with your issues but it's not specifically for that.

Look at Alpha Arbutin or more expensive RePigment for that, but it's long term usage, won't be a quick fix.

Twoweekcruise · 28/01/2018 19:52

Thanks bagel will take a look.

I didn't realise Bagel! I thought because it wasn't meant to cause any irritation that you could use it every night from the start. I assumed the flaking and slight redness/tightness was to be expected and just showed it was working? I can already see my fine lines are fading slightly, and my skin looks and feels smoother and clearer.

I have just double cleansed, applied my usual serum and then a thin layer of Vaseline. Will give my skin a break for a few days.

MidLifeCrisis2017 · 01/02/2018 23:51

@Twoweekcruise I've been using it for a month and it's faded a penny sized area of sun damage. I wasn't expecting it to work!

RegionalTreasure · 02/02/2018 07:08

I've used it a couple of times with no irritation (I've very sensitive skin). Then I used it 2 days ago over the Buffet, and within minutes my skin felt like it was being bitten all over by ants. And I had a lovely red rash. It took 2 separate, strong anti-histamines to make my face and neck stop hurting.

JackieReacher · 02/02/2018 08:45

I've been using the SKinceuticals 0.3% retinol on advice of my botox man. He said you have to build up gradually - every few nights to every other night then daily if required, before then moving on to the 0.5%. I presume that the Ordinary at 2% is a very different formulation? I've got the Ord 0.5% in squalene on the way because I can't keep funding skinceuticals.
Oh - the other thing that botox surgeon said is that it's pointless to use all these acids to clear the skin if you don't then feed the lovely new skin underneath, so I'm also using resveratrol B/E vits at night to put something back in. Again, going to switch to The Ordinary resveratrol after I've finished the £100+ Skinceuticals one

JackieReacher · 02/02/2018 08:52

Just looked up that alpha lipoic acid; more serious sun sensitivity. Having trashed my skin years ago with an Environ slightly peeling facial immediately before a holiday (took YEARS) to get rid of the patchy pigment damage), I am very nervous about it. Seems like it might e the wrong time of year to start on these things? do regular retinol users continue with it over the summer or hold of until november again?

I've got the NIOD survival 30 UV protector on its way from Vic Health right now - like the idea of a serum based sunscreen which hopefully won't be as pore blocking as some of them

JMAngel1 · 02/02/2018 13:11

just started using the granactive 2% emulsion - applying twice a week. Will it help with improving texture? I have almost onion peel type skin on my chin from acne scarring - it's not pigmented just textured.

Well, after a 4 day break I used it again last night and skin feels fine today. Will probably use it again on Sunday night. Skin is definitely feeling smoother already.
