We need to see a pic please

ginorwine · 21/01/2018 13:46

I don't know how to upload a pic ! It's very very bright copper - marmalade I'd call it ! Like the cat but brighter !

Have you got any purple shampoo?

Also washing my hair with washing up liquid strips it out of my hairdresser puts too much toner on! No idea if it will help but won’t hurt!

ginorwine · 21/01/2018 13:51

Yes my daughter uses it ! Does it fade the orange ? If so shalll I leave it on for a few hours ?

OP posts:
Pinkandpurplehairedlady · 21/01/2018 13:53

It might oxidise and darken over the next day but if not I'd put more on to darken it.

ginorwine · 21/01/2018 13:55

I left the henna on for 12 hours . I expected it to be red due to this . I certainly gave it time to develop .
Thanks advice so far . Internet says put olive oil on - I'm asking in case anyone has other views as some reviews are mixed about this method .

Do you know if it will be in a process of change still ?
It's so so bright !!!!

Head and shoulders will strip some of the colour out. Just keep. Washing it? X

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 21/01/2018 14:53

I did read many many years ago that gin or vodka calms it. Just keep scooping it over your hair repeatedly (uses a large bowl and cup)

Disclaimer: I have no idea if this works.
Or if drinking the gin/vodka would make you feel better than wearing it Wink

Snowdrop18 · 21/01/2018 14:56

A blonde friend has had a few such experiences!!

she'd wash it out with washing up liquid. I have actually done it for her once when it was a particularly vivid wrong colour and I could see the water running with the colour so it must be a goodish method.

be prepared for sink clean up though if it's a bit splashy.

ginorwine · 21/01/2018 15:03

Looks like the answer lies in drinking gin and washing my hair ! In for a good afternoon ?! Thanks .

The trouble with henna is that it's permanent and won't wash out with any detergent or colour stripper. You cannot dye over it with a chemical hair dye either. Sad

I think you have a few options-

  • embrace your colour as it is
  • look into using more henna or a darker shade of henna
  • remove the henna using oil.

To remove or fade henna with oil.. (warning it's extremely messy and hard work)

Saturate your hair in oil. It needs to be dripping in the stuff.
Wrap up in a plastic shower cap, cover with towel
Heat hair by warming the towel, sitting near a heater or aiming a hairdryer at your head
Leave for at least 3 hours, 12 hours is more effective
Apply shampoo to hair without water. You need a really good clarifying shampoo to remove the oil
Rinse with warm water and repeat shampoo until oil is removed (this will take time and a lot of shampoo)

That will fade the henna and if you repeat the oil method every week, it should remove after around 3 weeks.

Hopefully you can laugh it off at work for now. Sometimes changing your make up to bolder colours can help if you feel your hair is "swallowing" you up or doesn't suit your skin tone.

I lost it in
.. thanks
Am trying to decide from what you say if the oil will strip the colour and this will eventually get all the colour out ?
If so then what to expect in the intrim middle stages ? Will it just be a pale bright ginger ? Red blonde ? Am trying to decide wether to go to work looking like an amber traffic light or to try and remove .. if I start the removal process am trying to not make it worse ?!
Any idea what the oil does to the colour ? For eg I don't want to lighten and brighten it as that wd be worse ?!!!

Do you think I used too little henna hence a very very intense copper rather than red ?

OP posts:

I meant about suggestion to add more henna as an option .... ? Thanks

Good idea re make up
Am in 50 s so unsure re make up ...
it's like a bright glowing hat on my head ! So maybe I'd better decide how to deal with this somehow .?? Thanks again !

If none of the wash out suggestions work, I would go to a hairdresser and ask them to fix it rather than try dyeing over it making it worse!

ginorwine · 21/01/2018 15:41

Turo
I was told that you can't dye over Henna so I presumed a hairdresser wouldn't be able to fix it .. I'm not going to put extra henna on as I've read it can fix in more strongly and I so don't want that ! Did you mean a hairdresser could dye it .. or maybe strip it ?
Thanks !

Yes I see your dilemma. As mentioned the henna might oxidise over the next couple of days, turning a more reddish colour so it might be worth waiting if you can bear it?

The oil method doesn't always work, particularly if you've hennaed your hair several times. That's why I thought it work on you- because your henna is new to your hair. It will just fade the colour and take some of the brightness out.

It's annoying that the Lush assistant assured you it would be fine on your blonde hair! Blonde hair and henna aren't usually a good mix- you always get the orange result.
I don't know what you used but you could try the Lush Brun henna to give a darker brown shade.

goose1964 · 21/01/2018 15:49

This happened to me in my teens. I just had to wait for it to grow out

prettywhiteguitar · 21/01/2018 15:49

You can't strip henna and a hairdresser won't be able to do anything really. Henna is like a varnish and over time and multiple applications darkens so I would put the brown henna over the top and then the red, that way you will get the dark red you want ?

prettywhiteguitar · 21/01/2018 15:50

I have blonde hair and had bright red/fire like henna hair it was a shock alright!

ginorwine · 21/01/2018 17:59

Pretty
Yes
That's what I've got !
How did you get rid of it !

Maccapacca88 · 21/01/2018 18:10

I'm sure I read on here that you can dye over Lush henna. Don't hold me to that, but it's something to look into!

ginorwine · 21/01/2018 18:21

Thanks mac !
