Would a maroon handbag be as versatile as black?

I have been lusting after a particular handbag for months & months. It’s jusy come down in to my price range in the sale, but only the maroon/red wine type colour. I had been thinking of the black.

This is to be my every day ‘take to work’ (smart office but not necessarily suits) bag so needs to go with loads of outfits.

Would maroon still work? I’m paralysed with indecision.

Need to decide fast before it sells out! 😅

I tend to think maroon could be more versatile? Goes with black and navy and brown and grey?

But then I’m someone who owns more than one pair of red shoes so I might not be the best judge!

purplecorkheart · 19/01/2018 20:26

What colours do you tend to wear to work? Can you post a picture of the bag? It would make it easier to advise.

ephemeralfairy · 19/01/2018 20:27

So much better than black. You can use it for casual wear too, and in the summer. I don't like black handbags, they look far too office-y.
Maroon is still smart, but less harsh. And goes with navy and grey as PP says.

Also we need pics!!

PurpleDaisies · 19/01/2018 20:28

I love maroon. It goes with everything.

What’s the bag you’re looking at?

museumum · 19/01/2018 20:30

More so as you can wear with navy and brown.

Longhairmightcare · 19/01/2018 20:32

I’ve attached a pic of the bag 😍

I was actually thinking to myself before posting maybe maroon is actually better. I wasn’t sure if I was just convincing myself because I want it so much, and then I’d get it and regret not going for black.

Ive got a PU black one in a very similar style which I use alllll the time, now quite tatty. So I know I’d get on with the style...

I think maroon is much more versatile than black.

ephemeralfairy · 19/01/2018 20:38

SOOOOOO much nicer than black! And it'll improve with age.

halfwitpicker · 19/01/2018 20:39

I'd say it's better.
It'd work with jeans too.

Longhairmightcare · 19/01/2018 20:40

So....I should definitely get this bag then right? Grin

It looks more expensive than black. It looks very practical and smart. Get it.

ephemeralfairy · 19/01/2018 20:43

Buy it immediately.

Tryingtogetitright · 19/01/2018 20:44

Get it, it's lovely! And agree with PP, more versatile than black.

Fozzleyplum · 19/01/2018 20:44

I have a maroon bag, which gets a lot more use than my black one; it goes with everything.

Mrsknackered · 19/01/2018 20:45

I have a maroon mulberry that my grandma found in a charity shop. It's beautiful and I think it goes with everything. I wear a lot of black, so I think it breaks it up nicely.

RiskIt4Biscuit · 19/01/2018 20:48

If you look at Mulberry, their Oxblood colour is one of their traditional/classic colours, along with black and oak.

The wine/maroon/burgundy/oxblood type of colour has become a classic - it keeps coming back every year as a seasonal colour, and it goes with everything and depending on the design of the bag, it can be used for casual and smart wear.

BillywigSting · 19/01/2018 20:52

Oh that's lovely op.

Agree with pp 're maroon being very versatile.

Could be dressed down for weekends too.

I have a radley bag that is ten years old now and still going strong, it was a birthday present but it's been a central item in my wardrobe since I got it, they're beautifully made. If mine ever does give up the ghost (can't see it happening soon) I'll definitely be investing in another one.

I say go for it!

Longhairmightcare · 19/01/2018 20:52

I’ve bought it!

Thanks for all your replies, just needed reassurance that I hadn’t talked myself in to liking the colour just because it was reduced.

RRP is apparently £229 and I’ve bought for £123.70 so I don’t think I’ll do better than that.

mrsknackered your grandma found a mulberry in a charity shop?! AmazingShock what a fabulous grandma.

Housewife2010 · 19/01/2018 21:18

I have an oxblood mulberry which goes with a lot but definitely not with everything.

Mrsknackered · 19/01/2018 21:20

She volunteers in one in a pretty affluent area, so she always finds the goods first! We've all had some wonderful Christmas presents from there. She does pay, I promise!

MulberryPeony · 19/01/2018 21:42

I have a maroon shopper style bag very similar to yours and it’s very versatile for all of the seasons and goes with most colours. Enjoy your new bag.

ChishandFips33 · 19/01/2018 21:53

Def more versatile...I have more maroon/burgundy/oxblood shoes/boots than black for this reason

Love the bag OP - glad you treat yourself
