Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. In order to make use of the below form and join in I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Where to Start

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

NEWish since previous threads:

Understanding Which Sunscreen(s) to Buy

Do I Really Need to Wear Sunscreen Every Single Day of the Year?

A Damaged Skin Barrier - Now What?

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

JANUARY 2018: Thread 11! Shock we're getting old. A recap of The Snailies categories for those still meaning to get round to them:

🐌🐌 THE SNAILIES 2017 🐌🐌

Wink The Well Hello There - newest and latest find that gets your motor running

Angry The Flusher- money spent on this product would have been better put to use by flushing it down the toilet

Halo The Jack & Rose- the product you’ll never let go of because there’s plenty of fucking space for the two of you on that piece of wood. Damn you, James Cameron, for breaking my poor little tween heart.

Biscuit The LTB- it all seemed so promising, everything was going so great, then they turned out to be a narcissist gaslighting bastard

Envy The Child Prodigy- that one product that’s annoyingly good and isn’t afraid to be smug about it

Smile The Worker Bee- never the centre of attention but has been steadily chugging along like no other

Hmm The Troll- the one where you repeatedly asked, ‘Is this doing anything?’, but continued to use it anyway…

Confused The Flabbergaster- that one product or technique that wasn’t really supposed to be used like that or delivered well beyond your non-existent expectations

Blush The Sinner- oh, admit it because we’re all guilty of it, what did you do or use that wasn’t all that sensible like take an acid bath and had the disastrous results you really knew to expect

User it says that's full coverage though? Itcosmetics has a uk website now u know, might be easier getting from there. Also I wouldn't know what shade to go for?? Hate not being able to test it on my skin for colours first, do you have any suggestions for shades? Thank you.

ElspethFlashman · 01/02/2018 11:16

Generally you can just Google Image Search it with "swatch" and people will have searched various shades. Though I find that if you have a Mac shade if you Google with the name of the new foundation you're interested in somebody will definitely will have a comparison picture as in "So I'm NW20 but I take Ivory in this"

miffy2 · 01/02/2018 12:00

I’m another IT CC fan. On my second tube. I wear light and I’m a mac nw15-20. I can slap it on in the morning with sponge, brush or fingers. I wouldn’t consider it full coverage at all but it lasts all day on me.

JDSTER · 01/02/2018 12:06

user IT cosmetics Cc ok for oily skin? Might try it when I’m in Selfridges in a few weeks.

Slight skin disaster this week. I get my eyebrows tinted and waxed. At a previous appointment I ended up with a skin graze under my eyebrow. I thought perhaps the therapist hadn’t put enough powder on my skin before applying the wax (stops wax sticking to skin apparently). Another therapist did it this week. She’s meticulous and very good but unfortunately another few skin grazes above and below eyebrows. I think it’s retinoid related/ thinner skin. This has only occurred since using differin, which in other ways I can tell works. I’ll have to knock the waxing on the head I think unless anyone has any ideas?

I’ve also noticed the skin around my eyelids is looking loose. This seems to have come on overnight somehow. I’ve never really bothered with eye creams and the like as I’ve never particularly had any issues. Is it my age? Am I doing something wrong skincare wise to have caused the change? Can I do anything about it? Sad

mintmagnummm · 01/02/2018 13:38

Thanks flashman and miffy.
I'm very tempted now! I'm a Mac nw18 and cool vanilla in no7 so what shade do you think?? I don't like it too pale as I don't wear bronzer etc.

mintmagnummm · 01/02/2018 14:01

I'm thinking light would be good for me, if miffy wears light and is nw15-20

mintmagnummm · 01/02/2018 14:11

Shit just bit the bullet and ordered light from the it cosmetics uk website! £30 and free p&p

Tsmummy08 · 01/02/2018 18:55

JDSTER The "my skin has been waxed off!!" effect is indeed due to retinoid usage!! Happened to me just before my birthday last year (slightly unfortunate timing) so switched to threading, which I loathe but needs must...

Brit I've been using the original Biore watery essence for a few years and recently tried the new 2017 version, and I honestly can't tell much of a difference. The new version is slightly thicker but still melts into the skin and is brilliant under makeup. Great stuff :)

userallusedup · 01/02/2018 19:43

I don’t think IT cosmetics is full coverage, you can build it up to make it fuller if you want but you can wear it sheer/light too, just apply less.

I’m no help with shades as I’m darker skinned than all of you I think, I wear the cc cream in medium tan. I had medium initially and it was slightly too pink on me, so had to buy a tan and mix the two. I was so happy when qvc got medium tan in stock as it’s perfect. Always on waitlist though Sad I’m going to check out the IT cosmetics UK website now, I didn’t even know there was one!

JDSTER I find it fine for my skin, but the heavier, matte foundations like ELDW don’t work for me as they don’t stop the oil breaking through and just oxidise and go claggy/patchy. The CC doesn’t stop oil but it doesn’t clag or wear off either so it’s easy to ‘refresh’ & just touch up with blotting powders and mattifying powder. IT cosmetics bye bye pores mattifying powder is excellent too but it gives me a bit of a white cast, am hoping they’ll bring out a tinted one.

userallusedup · 01/02/2018 19:48

Bit disappointed in the IT cosmetics UK website, there’s a better range on Qvc and the sets/kits with brushes are better value. They do have the cc cream in medium tan though so at least I know where to go next time Qvc sell out.

yongnian · 01/02/2018 20:22

Forgive me if I'm late to the party on this whilst I've been AWOL but has any tried the Ordinary bases?

miffy2 · 01/02/2018 20:36

user you can get all the shades from Beautylish and they ship internationally. They offer free shipping for spends over $50 and they charge you any taxes/duties upfront so you know what it will cost you. That is where I got my first tube and then like you mentioned I got a good deal on QVC with a foundation brush for little more than the cost of the tube.

I went to the chemist the other day and had a good chat with one of the staff members there. She agreed with trying the Bioderma shower oil so I got the large bottle of that. We discussed creams that would be suitable for my chest skin issue and she recommended Bioderma Atoderm intensive baume. I got a tube of it and have used both of them morning and evening for a few days now. So far so good. Still have texture but I can work on that once my skin goes completely calm again.

JDSTER · 01/02/2018 21:49

I remember you mentioning that now
Tsmummy. Which retinoid are you using at the moment? I find threading quite uncomfortable but, as you say, needs must.

user thanks for that. I do like ELDW but like something in a tube for travel and also just something a bit lighter for non work days.

userallusedup · 01/02/2018 21:59

Bioderma shower oil is the bomb, I’m going to look at atoderm now too. I like the cicabio spf from them as well I could use it instead of moisturiser in summer. I’ll check out beautilicious thanks for that Miffy I really, really want to try the cc powder that they do (not the celebration one) but cannot find it anywhere here.

Yong I got a TO foundation and it seemed ok texture and cover wise but I chose the wrong shade and it was a bit too yellow for me. I was going to order another shade and mix but couldn’t be bothered in the end as I’m happy with the IT cosmetics cc cream so I chucked it. I think a few others here (who got the right shade for them) liked it, not sure if anyone is till using it though.

I’ve heard from my eyebrow lady, she’s looked at my pics and says if I really don’t have ANY hair on my tails (I don’t) the brow extensions probably won’t work as the glue doesn’t grip to skin well (had already found that out for myself). She said she’s happy to have a look irl so I might pop in at some point but it doesn’t sound like it will work for me. I’m debating whether to risk rapidbrow & see if I can get some hair re-growth.

userallusedup · 01/02/2018 22:21

Got the CC powder on Beautylish (not Beautylicious!) thank you Miffy

EnidButton · 01/02/2018 23:13

The skin being waxed off talk is making me wince! Ouch! I once enthusiastically ripped a wax strip off my top lip and took half my face with it.

I need some EH cleanser and my beloved Dior mascara and lip glow balm but can't buy anything until my Mimi Holliday order arrives as it was stupidly £££ so I daren't spend anything else yet. It's taking aaaages (a week). Nice problem to have though I suppose.

EnidButton · 01/02/2018 23:14

Yong I think Olli did and posted pics. It looked really nice.

EnidButton · 01/02/2018 23:54

Come back on to say I've just realised how ridiculous I'm being complains about my fancy kegs not arriving yet. Talk about my diamond shoes are too tight. 🙄 Have kicked myself up the bum for it. 🥊

mintmagnummm · 02/02/2018 06:33

I want some bioderma shower oil now because of you lot 😂. Where do you get yours?

mintmagnummm · 02/02/2018 07:18

Does it lather if used with one of those scrunchies?

ElspethFlashman · 02/02/2018 08:58

Thanks for the beautylish info. I do want to try out the IT cc.

Sadly they don't carry Loreal, but I've discovered beautyjoint do. Same thing, a US feelunique- type site with free shipping worldwide over a certain amount. The Lash Paradise is only €8.99!!! I'm definitely stocking up there from now on. They have Cover Girl and Milani and loads of K brands too.

EnidButton · 02/02/2018 14:09

mint It does. Not loads but quite a bit. It doesn't lather if you just use hands.

miffy2 · 02/02/2018 15:56

Elspeth I love beautyjoint. Have my eye on a new wet n wild palette there. Must get a cover girl mascara and maybe another lash paradise backup :)

mintmagnummm · 02/02/2018 16:29

Thanks Enid I may try it, I really disliked the bioderma shower gel though (the blue one) so am a little hesitant 😕

EnidButton · 02/02/2018 17:09

I haven't tried that one Mint. What was it about it that you particularly didn't like?

I don't think my skin likes the Eucerin urea face moisturiser. It looks better for the first day and feels very nice to use but I think it gives me tiny white heads and blackheads.
