Is it appropriate to wear shorts for work? (Office based)

So I've seen some black tailored shorts in the Reiss sale and was wondering if this sort of thing would be appropriate with tights and flat shoes for work in an office?

I often wear shorter dresses and skirts, always with tights and either heels or flats, but I'm not sure whether I could get away with shorts without looking like I was on a night out!

No, completely inappropriate. For a start they're way too short and that in itself is not professional.

dancemom · 02/01/2018 18:58

With thick black tights then I'd say it was perfectly appropriate.

SnowFairyDust · 02/01/2018 18:59

It's a no from me, lovely shorts though!

nancy75 · 02/01/2018 18:59

I wasn’t going to say a definite no, but then I saw how short they are! Definitely too short for work.

NSEA · 02/01/2018 18:59

I wear stuff like this all the time. I am a professional. Why would it be inappropriate?

Unescorted · 02/01/2018 18:59

Only if you work n a beach hut and then you might want to lose the tights.

user187656748 · 02/01/2018 19:00

Because they''re way too short. I guess it depends on your work environment. I work in a law firm. Absolutely not appropriate.

Justgivemesomepeace · 02/01/2018 19:00

Absolutely no from me

CrestedTit · 02/01/2018 19:01

No.

thenightsky · 02/01/2018 19:02

Its a no from me too (NHS admin office). You'd be sent home to change and lose a day's pay most likely!

GrannyMac2018 · 02/01/2018 19:02

Lovely pair of shorts but suit a night out more than the office
Maybe a dress down day when you're going straight for drinks after
I think anything customer / client facing and they're too short

SayNoToCarrots · 02/01/2018 19:02

Fuck me, those shorts are short.

NataliaOsipova · 02/01/2018 19:03

Absolutely not! Sorry....

TheCowWentMoo · 02/01/2018 19:03

I wouldn't say no to shorts especially with thick black tights, when I was at school my teacher used to wear shorts and I remember thinking she looked great but those are very short! They are more night out than work! They are lovely shorts but I dont think appropriate for work, sorry op.

NC4now · 02/01/2018 19:03

No. They are lovely shorts and fab for a night out but they aren’t office wear.

BusySittingDown · 02/01/2018 19:04

I would wear tailored shorts for work but not those, they’re way too short.

I would wear them for home though - they’re really nice.

Someaddedsugar · 02/01/2018 19:05

@NSEA have you bought any recently that you could share links for?

I'm guessing it's most likely a no though! Thanks all :)

Some of the younger chaps in our firm wear cargo shorts, (with pockets etc) that reach just below the knee - but I think your suggestion is a little too short..

nobutreally · 02/01/2018 19:06

Hummm, they are short shorts aren't they? Depends on your office I'd say - but it's definitely on the verge of no (& I work in creative/marketing environments so have a fairly relaxed office dress code, and would say a definite yes to lots of shorts!)

Bluedoglead · 02/01/2018 19:06

Would you be allowed to wear a skirt that length to work?

Someaddedsugar · 02/01/2018 19:15

I have a version of this dress but in plain black that I wear occasionally, again with thick black tights and flats...

OP posts:
Bluedoglead · 02/01/2018 19:16

That’s almost to the knee though. Those shorts aren’t!

Dermymc · 02/01/2018 19:17

No freaking way. But I am a teacher.

Still I can't imagine many offices where that would be acceptable work wear.

Dermymc · 02/01/2018 19:17

There's literally arse cheek hanging out those shorts!

Someaddedsugar · 02/01/2018 19:21

Maybe not then! I'm glad I asked!!
