Dyson hairdryer - are they any good?

So I'm toying with treating myself to a dyson hairdryer because I've read lots of great reviews about them. Particularly interested in the reduced drying time and the protection against heat damage. Before I splash out on one just wondered if any of you lovely MNers have one and would you recommend it?

TIA

I was given one for Christmas the year before last. It’s amazing. The whole design is so cleverly thought out and it’s very quick and efficient, and the least static end result I’ve ever had.

I would have found it hard to justify spending that much on a hairdryer myself but I’m very grateful that somebody else did as it’s brilliant.

My hairdresser swears by hers. Says she couldn’t go back to a traditional hairdryer now. Not least because they’re so much heavier than the dyson.

PutDownThatLaptop · 31/12/2017 01:10

It's great! It dries my long thick hair in minutes.

homtardy · 31/12/2017 03:44

Thanks for the replies. I should have asked for one for Christmas Blush. Wouldn't usually spend so much on myself, especially straight after Christmas but my hair takes so long to dry I'm thinking of the time saving element Smile

I love mine! Spent ages agonising over the cost, but it has halved my drying time (20 mins to 10 mins) and the same for straightening - so 20 mins saved every other day.

This works out as over 2 days saved per year for me. £300 definitely justified Wink

TwinklyGiraffe · 31/12/2017 04:27

I’m away this weekend without mine and really miss it! I use it on my kids and their hair is dry so soon too! Took forever to dry hair with normal dryer last night!

Kaykee · 31/12/2017 04:33

QVC were doing them with easy pay recently and I almost got one... wish I had now as my current dryer keeps randomly stopping it will probably die mid hairdo later when I’m getting ready.

homtardy · 31/12/2017 10:16

Sweetheart your maths has convinced me Grin and after all time is priceless!

Twinkly good point re using it on kids hair, all that wriggling about time halved and my current dryer gets so hot DS1 complains it burns.

Kaykee I hope we both get one soon Smile

I recently bought one from QVC but am sending it back. I just couldn’t make it work for my hair. My hair is fine and actually felt dryer and flatter after. May have been my technique but I’m not convinced it’s great for fine hair. If you buy from QVC you can always send it back if you don’t like it.

TarquinGyrfalcon · 31/12/2017 13:00

I love mine - I have long thick hair and it has made my mornings so much easier as it takes half the time.

I used a 'normal' hairdryer in the Summer when staying at a friends and couldn't get over how feeble it felt.

homtardy · 31/12/2017 17:34

I have thick wavy hair so hopefully it will be more suited to my hair type. I'm going to buy one Grin can't wait to try it

I’d rather shave my head than put money in James Dyson’s pocket.

Honey1975 · 31/12/2017 17:39

I don't suppose these are likely to be on a sale anywhere are they?

pamplemoussed · 31/12/2017 17:39

I had one as a gift a year ago and have fine hair. Because I was using it like a regular dryer at first my hair was over dried and straw like and I was not impressed. Then I got wise with it and learned to use it less and could not live without it now.

Branleuse · 31/12/2017 17:40

I halved my drying time and made my hair look swishier and shinier by buying a higher powered 2200 w babyliss ionic hairdryer for £36 a couple of days ago. I looked up the dyson one. I knew they were expesive but that is bloody obscene for a hairdryer. I was expecting it to be about £200 or something.

Of course you can justify anything if you are determined enough

CointreauVersial · 31/12/2017 17:42

I have quite fine hair, and 2 minutes with my current dryer is perfectly sufficient, so I can't imagine what it would give me for the money.

It looks beautiful, though....

sausagepastapot · 31/12/2017 17:46

Absolutely love mine and its great for DD as you can set it really low.

I have huge thick hair and its more than halved styling time.

MoKnickers · 31/12/2017 17:49

Titty - what on Earth has he ever done to you?!

TeaMeBasil · 31/12/2017 17:50

Had mine a month - have long thick hair and I love it!

Light & powerful, definitely quicker at drying my hair. I don't think you'd get a lot more benefit if you had fine hair, but perfect if you have a lot of hair!

LucyLogan · 31/12/2017 19:33

I'm with Titty. I'll never give another penny to that man.

ilovewinterpansies · 31/12/2017 19:43

Is it because of Dyson's views on Brexit?

AnakinCyberwalker · 31/12/2017 19:47

I'm with Titty and Lucy on this one Xmas Smile

Tupperwarelid · 31/12/2017 19:48

I got mine for Christmas so have only used it a couple of times and still getting used to it but it is so much easier to use than my old one. I have thick frizzy, shoulder length hair and it is much quicker to dry now and seems smoother as well. Feel really pleased and lucky I got it.

TittyGolightly · 31/12/2017 19:49

First for moving manufacturing from the UK to the Far East, then for the utter shortest that is Brexit, yes.
