Dyson hairdryer - are they any good?

So I'm toying with treating myself to a dyson hairdryer because I've read lots of great reviews about them. Particularly interested in the reduced drying time and the protection against heat damage. Before I splash out on one just wondered if any of you lovely MNers have one and would you recommend it?

TIA

Thanks everyone.

What are his views on Brexit? Do I need to rethink giving mr dyson any of my hard earned money??

My hairdresser swears by hers. A FB group I'm on says Parlux (I think that's what it's called)

I got one for Christmas and am very impressed. I have very thick hair which usually takes 40 minutes to dry and it only takes 10 minutes with the Dyson and leaves a glossy finish too.

It’s a lot of money, but worth every penny imo. Professional results in a fraction of time.

Just saw them on QVC tonight and you can pay in 4 x £75 instalments- not sure how long that offer's on for but might just be today. I was a bit tempted but can't even afford one instalment Grin

He's an ardent Brexiter homtardy.

I have lots of fine hair. Made my hair look lank. Luckily I bought it directly from Dyson. I used it for a week, every permutation of heat, strength Of blow etc. No good for me - got a refund, which was a protracted business but got it in the end. Strongly recommend doing this. A lot of money to shell out if it is not spectacular.

abitoflight · 01/01/2018 00:39

Fast definitely
I use only with ‘straightening’ nozzle as if no nozzle my hair really knots and DD’s knots too
Some friends say they have not needed to use straighteners as so good

I want one but I boycott all his products so it's a no go.

Agree with PPs who say it’s not good for fine hair - I found this too. Sadly after shelling out full price and not keeping box or receipts etc. Its powerful and really nice to use but doesn’t get hot enough, which is no doubt good for the condition of the hair but I only get proper volume and curl in my fine hair when the hairdryer gets properly scorching. Parlux is a good brand for that and suits my limp locks.

Wait until boots are doing triple points and get one then. That's like getting £30 off which is better than nothing.

My (very famous) hairdresser was given 50 for his salons. He says he wouldn't buy them - more effective driers on the market

VirginiaPosh · 01/01/2018 01:17

I got mine a year ago and I love it! I have fluffy, flyaway hair and find that it leaves my hair smooth and sleek. After a bit of trial and error I found the coolest setting on the medium speed works best for me. Not sure I would have spent £300 on one but as it was a gift I'm not complaining Grin

CarysMa · 01/01/2018 01:48

I'm tempted as drying my weirdly thick hair can take forty minutes.

Lucky people who got a gift of one!

packofshunts · 01/01/2018 01:54

I have a Parlux. Is the Dyson any better?

feelinginthedark · 01/01/2018 08:56

I currently use an 'ionic' dryer - can't remember the brand but it's the one used in a chain of salons. Normal dryers give me frizz. I have naturally curly hair and dry it straight. Does it sound like the Dyson would work for me?

DameDoom · 02/01/2018 13:23

I have one and my hair is very fine. For about the first ten days of drying ( I have to wash every day) my hair felt awful - really dried out and lacking shine then all of a sudden the condition changed to being really shiny and manageable. It has stayed that way.

I have far less static and can fully style my hair in about ten minutes using the lowest settings and get a professional- looking result.

If your hair seems to hate it at first, I really would encourage sticking with it for a couple of weeks as other people have had the same gripe but it quickly changes and the results are amazing.
