Beautiful Dubarry boots. Can't get them on/off!

DH gave me a pair of Dubarry Longford boots for Christmas.
Absolutely love them, fit is reasonably good when on and I assume they will give a bit as leather but dear God, getting them on and off!
Is this normal?
I think I would be classed as having slim calves and ankles so cannot just be me.
Anyone else struggle?

You fucking show off GrinGrinGrin

Yes, you have lovely slim legs

purplecorkheart · 26/12/2017 16:50

I bought a fab pairs of boots and had to buy a shoe hour made for removing horse riding boots in a horse riding supply shop. Still a nightmare to remove

passthecremeeggs · 26/12/2017 16:52

I have the dubarry galways and they were hard to get on and off to start with but they have pull loops inside to pull on - do yours? And to get them off the shop we bought them from threw in a boot jack which I definitely needed for a few months. They loosened up then and I get them off without it now

ShirleyPhallus · 26/12/2017 16:53

Lolz at adding a picture to ensure we all believe you have good legs HmmGrin

I have got like a really long shoe horn for tight boots until they give a bit

retirednow · 26/12/2017 16:53

PP, do you mean a shoe horn for removing horse riding boots? if so, this is what I need. I had a great pair of leather boots but cannot get the things off without almost dislocating my ankles so don't wear them. Did the shoe horn work?

BeastOfChristmasIsland · 26/12/2017 16:55

They will become more supple with wear but you should get a boot jack for taking them off. Makes it easier and you're less likely to damage the boots. You can get a matching Dubarry one (and boot pulls for getting them on) www.dubarryboots.com/boot-jack

No,no,no I am actually super paranoid and counteracting the most terrifying video Dd obtained covertly of DH trying to get them off yesterday.
I'm red, sweaty and grunting whilst DH slides across the floor. It took some time, we both had to have a break between feet.
DD is a half shoe size smaller and slides them on and off with ease.
I have walked the dogs today in leaky wellies as partly cannot face the physical efforts required to get them on and also need to wear inside in case I return.

Yes, it is a very long shoe horn thing, they also gave me a boot jack thing but I found the shoe horn thing easier for me.

stayathomegardener · 26/12/2017 17:04

Sticks tongue out @LaurieFairyCake and wonders if I should screen shot the removal video.

YES to boot jack. I have these boots and they were difficult to get off and on initially. I wear them riding twice a week so they’ve softened over time.

FabulouslyGlamorousFerret · 26/12/2017 17:07

Of course you should screenshot the video! Ps I've got the Galways and I love them so much my heart hurts 🤣 keep trying!!

LaurieFairyCake · 26/12/2017 17:09

I definitely prefer the idea of you sweaty and grunty trying to get them off Grin

I think your answer is to take them back and buy a half or full size bigger

GreyMorning · 26/12/2017 17:10

You need a shoe horn for putting them on and a boot jack for taking them off.

How have you taken boots on and off in the past?!

stayathomegardener · 26/12/2017 17:12

That is just what I need to hear @passthecremeeggs thank you sounds very promising.
There are two little pulls at the top of each boot yes but really I cannot impress on you how ineffective they would be.

You know when you try to get woolly tights on a toddler at their chubby stage and are frantically tugging at the sides only to realise said child is completely elevated, suspended by said garments. That's what would happen or the pulls would rip off.

Laurie the feet fit well when I got over the heel/ankle issues and they are on I'm a 5.5 and boots are a 6 so loathe to go up another size.

OP posts:
stayathomegardener · 26/12/2017 17:23

See @GreyMorning previously I have just put boots on with a bit of a tug and used the door step as an impromptu jack. It's never been an issue.

Janeways · 26/12/2017 17:28

I had to go for the extra fit because I found the dubarry galway quite snug on the calf and I don't consider myself to be unusually chunky of leg. I then sliced off the external label saying "extra fit" as I didn't feel like advertising myself as Mrs FatCalves every time I went out in them.

Accountant222 · 26/12/2017 17:30

You've probably got a high instep which causes you difficulties getting them on and off, they will wear in over time

GreyMorning · 26/12/2017 17:34

found the dubarry galway quite snug on the calf

Really? I've always found them huge on the calf??

MarshaBradyo · 26/12/2017 17:38

I’d be worried they wouldn’t stretch enough. Return them, they will bug you - you’ll need to wait for your dh to get home to get them off

JudgementalSquirrel · 26/12/2017 17:50

I have a pair of Longfords, have worn them every day each winter for about 3 years. I honestly cannot remember how they were when I first got them, but they do sag at the ankles and get looser. I am a size seven and have another pair that are a 6.5, they have hardly been worn and are a bit too small for me, they are a bit tight but come off okay, no sweating or grunting!

They are gorgeous boots, I love mine. I hope you get on okay with yours!

JudgementalSquirrel · 26/12/2017 17:51

You look skinnier than me too, were you wearing socks? That can make a difference, bare feet stick more in my experience...

SunshineTheMonkey · 26/12/2017 17:53

Mine are easy to get on and off. I think you need a bigger size.

FuckyNellYaBastad · 26/12/2017 17:59

Great pic 😀
