How much do you spend on yourself per month/year?

I know budgets, circumstances and preferences differ but roughly, whether as an amount or a proportion, how much do you spend on yourself on a regular basis? I’m thinking of clothing, accessories and beauty items (make up, skincare).

I’m realising I don’t spend very much at all, and not regularly, so basically I don’t have much! Grin

For context, I’ve just decided to splurge (for me) and have bought several skincare items and new make up, as I realised it has been a very long (too long Blush) time since I bought new make up apart from my regular repurchase of tinted moisturiser, and I’ve been scrimping on skincare as we moved house earlier in the year and budget got tighter, and hadn’t gone back to anything better and my skin is showing it. I also want/need new clothes as I rarely buy, but should as I’m working in a more ‘professional’ environment now.

Can’t help but feel guilty though Blush I’m just not used to taking care of myself properly, I maintain a minimum standard of course but I have a demanding job, and DH is disabled and kids have SN and I just tend to forget about things that feel indulgent. I want to change that though!

Depends really, no set figure but we have a fairly high disposable income and no DC yet so generally if I want something I buy it. I'm not into designer stuff and handbags etc., though. I like clothes but my weakness is expensive clothing, shoes and equipment for climbing/hiking/running/skiing/mountainbiking/surfing. If I averaged it out across the year it would be a fair few £00s per month. I have recently discovered and stocked up on The Ordinary skincare though which works and is really cheap!

Babababababybel23 · 24/12/2017 17:59

About 100 a year. I clothes shop in charity shops and have some great clothes. Dkny jacket, Karen Millen dress and a Ralph Lauren jumper. They were all about 3 quid each

swimster01 · 24/12/2017 19:36

I would guess at about £400 per year? I don't buy expensive cosmetics/skincare any more - can't tell the difference between them and cheaper brands. I do like 'proper' perfume though - Guerlain, Serge Lutens etc. I try to buy clothes in the sales and mainly for work.

LoveTheBear85 · 24/12/2017 19:41

I have spent less this year than previous years. With hairdressers, waxing and skincare & make up I reckon is it probably around £500. I do ask for some skincare stuff for Christmas/birthdays though.

clarrylove · 24/12/2017 19:42

Maybe £300 per year. I buy a lot if clothes from charity shops and haven't bought much make-up in years. Have stacks at home already.

HRTpatch · 24/12/2017 19:46

Loads.
I have hair cut and colour and facials every 6 weeks...about £200 I don't have a budget for clothes ...just buy as and when I see something.
So maybe £4000 a year

Undercoverbanana · 24/12/2017 19:46

Are we including toothpaste/shower gel/shampoo? Contact lenses? Sports physio?

catrin · 24/12/2017 19:57

This is actually a bit of a resolution for me. I need to spend more, or rather, anything! It's not that I can't afford it. I think I have become some sort of unintended martyr. I very rarely buy clothes and many of my things are over a decade old. Which is fine, but they were 2 for 7 quid t-shirts for example, so have hardly stood the test of time. I don't intend to try to go crazy, I don't know that I could. But to dress like I actually like myself would be a start.

PNGirl · 24/12/2017 20:16

Somewhere between 1k and 1.5k on clothes, bags and shoes per year but only maybe 3 haircuts and no beauty treatments. Paint my own nails, do at-home facials etc.

I work full time, no children. It's maybe 5% of my wages.

DameDoom · 24/12/2017 20:25

Probs round £5k per year. No kids though. Was a born beauty junkie with no sign of abaiting

bendywindy · 24/12/2017 20:32

500 pcm is transfered to my personal account Blush

haarlandgoddard · 24/12/2017 20:34

I would guess about £60 a month? So £720ish a year, mainly clothes. I could easily spend more but I try and limit myself, I know what you mean about feeling guilty, I don’t know why though.

Kenworthington · 24/12/2017 20:35

I have no idea and wouldn’t even be able to add it up but definitely in the thousands.

Sailorjerrycherry · 24/12/2017 20:37

I spend about £500/£600 per month between hairdressers, nails, waxing, brows, makeup and clothes etc. I thought about £250 when I read your post and now I’ve counted it up I’m a bit shocked! Blush

PitilessYank · 24/12/2017 20:39

I am about the same as Sailor, but that includes lash extensions and botox, so I don't spend that much on clothing nor makeup.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 24/12/2017 20:43

In 2017 (I'm doing the acounts / budgets at the moment) I spent about 112 Euro on clothes, and about 100 Euro on my hair, but about 800 Euro on dental and health care.

Jenala · 24/12/2017 20:55

About £40 a month.

I get my hair cut every 8 weeks and my brows waxed and tinted every 5 or 6 weeks, both of which are quite new routines. I rarely buy clothes though I always need them. We have a fairly tight budget though and kids stuff obviously has to come first.

christinarossetti · 24/12/2017 20:57

Throughout the year, about one hundred on hair, fifty quid on make up/skin care, a few hundred on clothes mainly via ebay.

I haven't needed a new coat or boots this winter, so am idly perusing the Toast sale though.

chanie44 · 24/12/2017 21:44

Around £40-£70 a month.

My money mainly goes on clothes though. I don't spend much on beauty treatments or hair. Make up is high end, but I don't have loads of products.

I will save up for bigger items or I'll wait until there is an offer code/sale, so I can make my money go as far as I can.

VioletCharlotte · 24/12/2017 21:51

Erm, not really sure. Probably about £40 a month on clothes, £30 a month in make up, etc, £40 on hair. So around £110 a month.

WipsGlitter · 24/12/2017 21:51

Far far too much. I'm going to cut back this year.

mowglik · 24/12/2017 22:18

If I’m not watching what I spend it’s usually £400 plus a month but when I’m on low spend I try and stick to £50 a month - did this for 6 months last year and it was quite liberating - planning to do this again from jan

Dontbuymeroses · 24/12/2017 22:30

I would imagine it would be around £100 - £150 per month, a lot of that will be on hair. Twice a year I run out of face cream etc and spend £50 - £60 to replenish for the next 6 months. Then top ups of clothes, some ebay and charity shops. My excuse is that I have recently lost a lot of weight so I went down to pretty much an empty wardrobe, I am currently having to replace boots because they are now too large Shock.

Turquoisetamborine · 24/12/2017 22:39

I reckon around £50 a month on average. Some months nothing but then I’ll need a winter coat etc
