Brazilian blow dry advice

Hello, I am absolutely fed up of my frizzy, wild, ever expanding hair. I've tried curly girl etc, but the problem is that chunks of my hair are curly and others straight, it's an absolute nuisance! I also have loads of hair, so blow drying takes a lifetime.
I'm considering a Brazilian as I at my wits end, it's about £100 though and I'm wondering if it's worth the money, does anyone have any experience?
Thanks in advance!

I think the products do vary a bit from salon to salon and I guess that reflects on the price. I have had the original Brazilian Blow Dry (£250) then I have had Cezanne (£150) and then a kerastase one (£200). The original ones you have to leave on for 3-4 days without being able to wash your hair which is a feeling I can't stand. I think some of the newer more expensive ones you can wash almost immediately. I am in West Sussex as well which probably doesn't help with the SAT (Surrey Added Tax). Grin

I have a guy come to my house to do it for £130 in London. If anyone wants his details then please PM me.

I would maybe try doing it myself. Been getting it done for 6 or 7 years so I’ve seen it done enough times! Has anyone else used that particular product? Any other recommendations?

quackingduck222 · 18/12/2017 14:58

The original Keratin Kits one off amazon had thousands of reviews and was the leading brand for DIY.

But they stopped selling the kits, the company discontinued them.
The cocochoco one came recommend on another thread on here, I bought it and still had some original stuff left and it seems identical by smell and results. Others on amazon seem to agree.

Aridane · 18/12/2017 14:58

Alterity in London (Holborn way) do it for £69 with haircut. You have to ask for this offer though.

G Salons in London (Hoxton) have promotions on from time to time for £59, sometimes standalone, sometimes in conjunction with another (discounted) service. You will need to get on their text mailing list.

Have been to others at £49 which were fine - Groupon offers - but can't remember their names.

Check whether there is a surcharge for long hair.

I can defo recommend the first two.

Badgoushk · 18/12/2017 15:01

I have slightly wavy, very thick hair that I would like to have that deep conditioned look. Would it work for me? I don't want poker straight hair and don't own a hairdryer! (Low maintenance aka scruffy!).

I think it would work for you - though be warned that immediately after it's done it's a bit flat and lank looking Shock - but once you are able to wash it, you will get that deep conditioned look

quackingduck222 · 18/12/2017 15:28

Bad, I think it would yes.

Il add my before treatment, after and now. I think my hairs in better condition than ever.

It definitely has more of a shine to it, it is straight now but I do blow dry and straighten it every wash it just takes a lot less time and effort than before

LookingForwardToChristmas · 18/12/2017 15:32

I’ve used the DIY kits for years. Ideally get someone to give you a hand but it doesn’t take longer than an hour. You just paint the serum on, dry with a hairdryer and then straighten repeatedly before leaving for three days.

quackingduck222 · 18/12/2017 15:32

Here’s my before - last year, after treatment was washed out and currently

Looks fab quacking
Can anyone tell me if it's still possible to blow dry ends under as in a bob? Or will the hair no longer bend, even if you want it to?

quackingduck222 · 18/12/2017 17:17

Happens it still bends if you want it to. You can curl it or flick it in/ out or whatever you want.

It’s not like a perm set in that style IYSWIM. Just swisher smoother hair.

pink1173 · 18/12/2017 20:11

It is the best £100 I ever spent. Had mine done in March and have very thick, wavy hair. Since March I have not had to pay for a blow dry as my hair dresser just rough dries it and it goes straight. As I have my hair coloured every four weeks I have actually saved money and it has cancelled out the cost of the Brazilian. Just make sure you get the correct shampoo as otherwise it will ruin it.

MammaAgata · 18/12/2017 20:44

Good shout about the shampoo @pink

Thunderpunt · 18/12/2017 20:51

Can someone give me the brands (and places to buy if possible) of shampoo that are sulphate free please. Every time I go looking I struggle to read the teeny, tiny writing with the ingredients on so have been using my normal shampoo Confused

MrsGrindah · 18/12/2017 20:52

Can you really not do it if you colour your hair? I have to colour mine every 4 weeks because I have so much grey.I had the Olaplex treatment about 5 months ago and that was a complete waste of time and money. Been thinking about the Brazilian but I wouldn’t be able to stop colouring...am I doomed?

quackingduck222 · 18/12/2017 21:01

Mrs you can have it done if you colour your hair.

You can use it immediately after hair colour OR have your hair treatment and wait two weeks after the day you applied it.

I find I prefer to have it done before my colour as it looks amazing and so sleek after having it coloured.

As for special shampoo treseme Kertin smooth shampoo and conditioner. Shampoo is in a red bottle and conditioner in the white. It’s worth shopping around for it as it’s always on offer somewhere either boots / Superdrug/ ASDA / Tesco. I’ve never paid full price.

There is also a kererin organix shampoo / conditioner that is safe to use. I haven’t personally tried it as it’s more expensive than treseme.

Or you can buy the keratin kits shampoo & conditioner off Amazon.

MrsGrindah · 18/12/2017 21:04

Thanks and that makes sense to do it before colour

HappenstanceMarmite · 18/12/2017 21:05

Can you really not do it if you colour your hair?

I'm sure I read that you can use it on coloured hair. Perhaps someone experienced can clarify?

quackingduck222 · 18/12/2017 21:06

Thunder - it’s currently on offer in Asda for £2.00 it’s £5.49 currently in boots & Superdrug.

I just wanted to double check as I stocked up last week. The week before it was £5 in Asda.

katymac · 18/12/2017 21:21

Would it work on grey?

ohanabanana · 18/12/2017 21:54

I would love to get this done again but the shampoo really irritated my scalp (it is sensitive with dandruff and itching) so after about 3 weeks I had to use my original shampoo and the £150 Brazilian blow dry washed down the sink. Can anyone recommend a suitable sulphate free shampoo for me?

JDSTER · 18/12/2017 22:14

quackingduck the keratin shampoo you link has sulphates in and is not recommended after a keratin blow dry. You need sulphate free.
L'Oréal have a few sulphate free shampoos available in Boots or brands shea moisture or Maui moisture, again stocked in Boots.

I haven't tried a DIY keratin kit because they all seem to need leaving 3 days and I couldn't stand to wait that long between washes. The one I get, hair can be washed the next day.

quackingduck222 · 18/12/2017 22:18

Banana I have severe dandruff always have had. Mine literally comes out in clumps of scalp.

I’ve found a way round it. I use shampoo prescribed by my GP but use it only on my scalp.

When you do the Brazilian blow dry you don’t apply it too the roots as you can’t get the straightener that close to lock it in.

I’ve only just done my treatment last week, when you apply it you use clarifying shampoo and I didn’t use my dandruff shampoo when I washed it out.
My hair was vile this morning it looked like huge clumps of glue. I’ve put my shampoo on my scalp tonight and washed the rest with the shampoo I linked below and the dandruff has gone now.

I never used to get my shampoo on prescription and used to pay £10 for a tiny bottle so came up with this idea of just using it on my scalp to save some ££.

quackingduck222 · 18/12/2017 22:21

JD - your joking, I know they changed the bottles recently. I’m wondering if they have changed the forumula as it used to say on the bottle suitable for use with BBD / keratin treatment.

I’ve still got a couple of old bottles I’m just finishing up so will check it out tomorrow.
