Aww thanks ladies, my head is getting big!

Kiko's eyeliner and eyeshadow sticks have great staying power.

LesserSpottedLurker · 07/12/2017 08:42

@Bloomed Reiss have some lovely sweatshirts too, not sure if they would be très français though?

The one I loved is actually in the sale, whoo

Kiko currently has an offer of buy 2 get 2 free, in shops and online, it's almost as good as their Black Friday offer of buy 3 get 3 free.

Bloomed, those type of sweatshirts are almost impossible to find at the moment, the Reiss one above is cropped and boxy, I only ever think those sweatshirts work well under things if they're more fitted. I especially like that little triangle seam work below the neck on the IdlF pic as that makes it less boxy too and gives a bit of shape. Bellerose (Belgian) has a few like that but with stupid decorations on top. They're otherwise quite far and few between these days, at least in the fitted plain variety. H&M have them in their Divided section sometimes but they're quite thin, but underneath a blazer that may actually be a good thing?

I do not have a flat stomach Tanaqui, that dress covers a multitude of sins, but I think if you're very sticky out then it's more difficult but so would a lot of close-fitting styles. I've never experienced a lassoed boob Grin feel somewhat cheated now, mine are wide set so I often get the slip in the valley in between that makes it go from a nice curve into a single line and lose all shape. I used to have a shirt that had two metal hooks on the shoulder seams and you'd attach a long chain that came with it there and that was really flattering and less annoying somehow.

Littlehenrylee · 07/12/2017 14:39

Thank you Bo. I have a very similar dress from Banana Republuc that I bought a few years ago and have yet to wear it. I used work in finance and I associate it with work and have never worn it. I’m fairly sure it even has its price tag still on it. I struggle with heels (think tottering ten too many) but the more pratctical low heel tends to take the sexiness from every item of clothing in one fell swoop. I am in awe of your knowledge and thoroughly enjoy this thread.

I can’t offer advice re fashion but can tell you that I purchased 3D Creat Whitening Strips from Amazon. Like Enid I find my teeth quite sensitive and use them periodically which means I never get their full effect but better than not using at all.

ProperLavs · 07/12/2017 14:51

Thanks bo.
I think draped tops can also be good for those with no bust? I think i read somewhere it hides the fact you haven't got one and gives the illusion that there might be something there!

bananafish81 · 07/12/2017 17:40

Currently on the Eurostar - suddenly felt extra self conscious about what I wore today / packed in my overnight bag, so I could aim higher for Parisian chic!

Capsule wardrobe choices:

Today: cashmere black roll neck, skinny dark blue J brand jeans rolled up to 7/8, &otherstories leather belt and flat pointy &otherstories ankle boots + Mac lady danger red lippy. All Saints black City Monument coat and grey cos lambswool scarf (opted against the lovely IM blanket scarf because a bit too unwieldy to have the tassels with a backpack on)

Not sure if the roll neck is Parisian chic or 'Steve Jobs with a blunt cut bob', but hey

Have an &otherstories black breton with white stripes to wear with my skinnies tomorrow - I wouldn't wear my traditional breton for fear of looking like a try hard stereotype (or possibly an extra for Allo Allo and just missing the string of onions around my neck), but I reckon this one is more 'striped top' than a true breton

Hotel and office are both in the 10th, not sure if there's a particular Parisian style for this general area or not? I shall report back!

EnidButton · 07/12/2017 18:41

Sounds very very nice to me banana. Hope you have a good time. We need all the details.

Littlehenrylee · 07/12/2017 20:10

Sounds lovely to me too!

prettybird · 07/12/2017 20:22

I went out today for lunch with dh and my dad with 4 thin(nish) gold bracelets on, and three thin gold chains (one longer chain with a small opal pendant, another with a single pearl and the other a slightly shorter version of the same chain that had the opal on it). Worn with a low v-necked graphite coloured cashmere. Plus of course my 999 lipstick!

My tubing mascara has arrived from Japan. It does indeed not smudge Smile - but my eyelashes are so short, it doesn't make that much difference to their length. At least they're darker and thinker though! Grin

LazyDailyMailJournos · 07/12/2017 20:40

Love the French advent calendar. In my head I'd like to do Parisienne chic, but I suspect that in reality I look like a dumpy bag lady. As evidenced by the fact that I've typed Parisienne and google wants me to correct it to 'parishioner' Grin

Any recommendations for a blue toned red lipstick that's budget friendly? I am a bit scared of red - have never worn it but fancy giving it a go. Something in the Max Factor / Maybelline type price range?

Littlehenrylee · 07/12/2017 21:10

Lazy your parishioner comment made me laugh out loud. MAC have a blue toned red called Ruby Woo but it is very very drying. Of course that means it has staying power but the dryness is too much for me to manage.

LazyDailyMailJournos · 07/12/2017 21:49

Does it make me sound utterly pathetic to admit that I am a bit intimidated by the MAC girls? They all look so young and insouciant. And I feel about 100 years old and like a raddled old bag next to their dewy 20 year old skin and multi-coloured hairstyles...

I've found two recommendations by trawling the first thread; Maybelline matt rich ruby and Max Factor berry red. I think I am a cool tone - the problem is that I can't decide whether my veins look blue or green. This colours malarky is very complicated...

EnidButton · 07/12/2017 22:12

Mac staff have a reputation as being scary so it's not just you. There's lots of complaints about attitude on line. But all counters will be different so yours might be a good one.

For budget lipsticks Rimmel are very good. I can't recommend a specific colour but definitely worth looking at.

EnidButton · 07/12/2017 22:13

You might be neutral Lazy.

NorWoman · 07/12/2017 22:55

Coming late to the Parisian street party. I am trying to catch up with thread Un.

Have watches been covered? What elegant timeless time pieces do French women wear? Thanks

DAY 8 - DAY 8 - DAY 8 - DAY 8

Auld Alliance

As mentioned previously the French are secret Anglophiles but they don't discriminate against the rest of the British nations. They love the Scots and steadily rob them of their finest seafood and take home a bale of plaid whilst they're at it. Not the first type of pattern you'd associate with the French but it is the perfect pattern to bridge that high-low trick they manage so well. It helps edge up an all-black outfit with a bit of je ne sais quos, that suddenly feels rock chic. Equally, plaid appears to unleash hidden maximalists in the Parisians as they play with variations of the pattern in different colours within one outfit, suddenly the preppy silhouettes are a lively tableau.

Mix with cranberries and blues to bring out the softer side and that familiar touch of casual elegance. For something so familiar they do seem to manage to place it in a new context that's definitely worth giving an explore, especially in the patterns beyond the black and red. Purple and blue based versions seem especially popular in France. Surely there's something plaid lurking in those wardrobes of yours to experiment with, I mean there's two Aulds on here! Otherwise eat some langoustines for me and call it a Fruit de Mer platter, please?

Little, depending on the dress you could go with knee-high boots, or these (pic 1) from Sezane may be good with a black wrap dress? They're Ponyhair (probably cow though), so it's less of a garish flat print that way and it would have some life beyond this dress as you can easily wear those under jeans quite casually. I'm not someone who gets on with leopard on the top of my body but it's usually fine on the lower half (though high heels push it too far) and even more wearable in a good finish. The same model also comes in black suede and black and tan leather, but those seem a bit dull.

Yes, Proper, drapey tops work on flatter chests too as you're basically toying with volume but you'd want a slightly higher V, not one that dips so low to gain more volume in the breast area (which someone with breasts would want to avoid, unless they'd also want to emphasise their chest).

Hmm, I think the 10th is mostly comprised of Gare du Nord and Gare de l'Est and all their tracks banana. It's mostly hotels and offices but around the Avenue Magenta I think there's a small immigrant community. Not that those should be disregarded for fashion inspiration, I've seen some amazing dressing, men and women, in African oilcloth in Paris.

Lazy, I've attached a pic of Kiko's reds in the Gossamer Emotion texture, which is quite creamy and hydrating. You can see the 114 (will attach another pic) is the closest to a true red there and then down it goes blue and up it goes orange. 113 (3rd pic) would be a good blue-based to try but I haven't really studied these at length all that much in RL but they are quite affordable. I agree with Enid that you could possibly be neutral, another sign is if you can wear both silver and gold jewelry without either being odd looking.

I find MAC staff generally to be unpleasant and unwilling to help, seeing that it's not just my local counter I boycott them on that principle as it seems the company seems fine to hold this reputation. Intimidating, no, unnecessarily snooty seems more accurate a description.

NorWoman, I don't really concern myself with timepieces but I suppose brands like Hermes, Jaeger Le Coultre, and Cartier, possibly a vintage Dior, will be handed down through generations, you wouldn't see a brand new one all that often. You do see the odd fashion watch as part of the bangle stack up but I think most women have a pretty simple leather band version (brown or cognac) in a more timeless style that didn't cost them all that much or they just don't wear them.

Really love all those outfits. Had a thing for tartan since a Tammy Girl pinafore dress I wore on a school trip around 1994. I was the bees knees and still remember it fondly. No tartan in wardrobe apart from a wool scarf from 4 years ago. Light brown base with Would go perfectly with a burgandy dress I have actually. Will wear it with dress, opaques and leather jacket on Saturday. whilst elbowing the Christmas shoppers out of my way...in an elegant manner obviously.

Really like the look of that number 11 lipstick.

EnidButton · 08/12/2017 00:20

*Bit missing there as I was going to describe the colours but looked at it and realised 'light brown base with yellow, blue, green and wine red' sounded terrible. Grin It does look good though. It's the wine colour that stands out the most,

LazyDailyMailJournos · 08/12/2017 06:40

Brill - thanks for the recommendation. I have a Kiko store locally and a day off today, so am going to find my blanket scarf and attempt to tie it as per the YT guidance, and go and play with some lipstick!

quirkychick · 08/12/2017 06:55

Oh, super Christmassy today! I love the first picture with the blanket scarf, bright but not too bright iyswim. Every year I toy with the idea of a tartan blanket scarf, but I have quite a few a ridiculous amount of scarves, so I'm not sure I can justify another. They look very snuggly as it's absolutely actic here today.
