I had a horrible moment in a changing room yesterday. My face, especially looks so tired and droopy Sad

I can easily:
Eat more fruit and veg
Work on sleeping better
Drink more water.

I clean my face and moisturise (whichever is on offer at the time - what creams should l look out for?).

I use sun cream.

I take vitamins (but have to remember to take them every day).

What else can I do?

I think I have low collagen, so have been researching into infra red treatment at home. Does anyone use something that they can recommend?

What other home treatments can I use? I can't afford £££, but I decided yesterday that I would regret not having a go at doing more.

I know creams do not always work and I really don't want to use Botox. At the moment, I want to try things that help my body produce the right things (technical term).

I hope some of you can help please.

I want to get a retinol, which specific one should I Get? The ordinary website really confuses me.

I'm in late 20s. Have acne scars, pigmentation and generally skin that doesn't look healthy and is a bit sensitive. I use SPF 30 daily.

I've also started micro dermarolling. Not sure how much it'll help but going to try for a few months

Am on another doctors only website where a guy who runs a cosmetic clinic occasionally posts.

In the midst of a big discussion about favourite age-defying skincare from the female doctors he suggested we should just bin the lot, wash with Dermol 500 and reapply Factor 30 suncream every 4 hours.

Of course that's boring and doesn't come in fancy packaging Grin

I've never understood derma rolling. Cutting the skin means you form scar tissue. Which is weaker & poorer quality than un-damaged epidermis.

I can see the point on already scarred skin because your breaking it down into smaller portions of scarring.

I mean anyone with wound care knowledge knows the body can't make new epidermis from cuts, just like we can't re-grow fingers.

Go for the ordinary. Acid is acid, you could use superdrug Glycolic pads for £3.

MayFayner · 02/12/2017 11:02

Thanks JMAngel Smile looks promising!

BagelGoesWalking · 02/12/2017 11:03

I'd go for the Ordinary, if only for the price. Start low with the 2% GR. some like the Retinoids in Squalene, others don't because it's an oil (a v light one) but make sure you moisturise well after and use sunscreen daily. There's a v good Ordinary Fb group if you want to join.

Hulder Interesting. I can't use a lot of stuff because of very sensitive/reactive skin - which has probably saved me a lot of money over the years but is a pain in the arse.

Diprobase/Aveeno have been my products for years but, more recently, I've discovered the whole Korean skincare "world" which focuses a lot more on hydration, nourishing the skin etc. This has led me to 3 products which I like a lot, don't react badly with my skin and has made it a lot softer and more comfortable. I probably won't look any younger but it's just so lovely to be able to use a few more "fancy" (to me) products.

Thanks - he's a plastic surgeon who actually offers a load of procedures, and cosmetic stuff in his clinic too so was interesting to see the cynical side.

I think there is a difference between the 'plumping up right now but won't last more than a day' - which is basically most moisturisers, and doing anti-ageing. Anti-ageing boils down to being lucky with your genes, not smoking and sun protection.

I did go through a Retin-A phase and will admit my skin looked amazing. However I am inherently lazy and maintaining it was tedious. I'm now back to ignoring my skin again.

HistoryMad · 02/12/2017 11:46

Thanks fluffy and Bagel. Will get ordinary as soon as it comes back in stock. Would it be ok to place my origins night mask over it or better just to put it on, on its own at night? Currently I use Superdrug glycolic overnight peel twice a week and origins overnight mask the rest of the days.

Fluffycloudland77 · 02/12/2017 11:47

I'd use it on its own TBH.

specialsubject · 02/12/2017 12:16

Sunscreen. Don't smoke. Choose correct parents. Eat properly. Dont wear thick red and black circles of makeup, adds a decade. ( why do you think teens do it?)

Surgery but your neck and hands will give it away and make you look a tad silly.

Smile, don't fish pout.
